There has never been a male spouse of a US PRESIDENT and if Kamala is nominated as candidate and elected , her husband would be known as FIRST GENTLEMAN … I wish her every success in the election as she will have to face off with bully boy Trump

It sure needs to be seen to be fair
-yes,
... the trouble is, only those with 'eyes to see' will be able to see the transparency.

Well, whatever the pros and cons of the candidates, I hope they keep a tight control of the voting machines and the postal ballot, this time.

Not only must the election be fair, it must be seen to be fair. Whatever one's views of the 2020 election, it will not be good if there are hundreds more affidavits attesting to voting irregularities in November.

It sure needs to be seen to be fair as there could be unrest like last time if not.
It seems to be a very complicated affair, not as straightforward as UK voting.

Memo to other posters, if another poster has different views to you about a politician then maybe accept it and don’t make fake sympathy comments asking ‘hope you are alright?’ I really hate that, I mean it’s so patronising.

The election was fair last time : fact.

There were no irregularities in the election , this was proven over and over by recounts and independent investigors.
Implying there was is just copying a page out of Trump’s playbook.

Let’s not forget that Dominion, the company accused of having voting machines with irregularities won a lawsuit against Trump.

Please stop posting false narratives that have been proven false repeatedly at great cost to the American taxpayer.

The greatest cost came at those who lost their lives on January 6 . Police officers that died defending the US Capitol .

Syracute sigh
You don’t seem to get nuanced comments, but don’t worry, you’re not alone on here for that issue.
In a previous post by me you didn’t get the word appears to be ( rather than actually is) and in my post above you don’t get it either, even tho I put the word seen in bold. It’s mega important this time around to give DT ( who I detest as much as you do) no grounds at all for appealing about votes so that means no confusion whatsoever, nothing/zip/ nada for him to be able to complain about. That’s what being seen to be fair means.

If Trump is such a non threat then this will be a cake walk for Kamala Harris.

It won’t be though and the Democrats know that.

I see that Urmstongran is still holding not just a candle for Chump, but a whole Olympic torch! Given that he is a proven sexist, racist, fraud, liar and braggart, I wonder what other qualities she admires?

Let's see, he is a multiple bankrupt, rejoiced in stiffing his investors, and back in the day he wrote that "it's poor people's fault they're poor, they're stupid", and of course he was caught in an Apprentice out-take saying to his friend "let's go grab some pussy, they love it".

We could add on his conviction for claiming the Stormy payment as 'Election campaign expenses' (of course he could pay hookers, but it's illegal to do that accounting!), not so much the shock-horror that a politician might get involved with other women (Kennedy struggled to keep his trousers on with females nearby) but that he blatantly lied about it, before, during and after the trial, we know this because he admitted it all in a series of Q&A sessions in that 2016 campaign.

He's having the same sort of issues as Biden, at a recent rally attacked the crime rate in Washington (crime figures are generally down over there), blamed Biden for the cost of air fares (which have increased at less than inflation's rate), and claimed that his own reign had seen the "greatest tax cuts in history" (actually the 8th highest since 1900).

His recent escape from that bullet is some irony, after the 2017 Las Vegas massacre (a guy took umpteen machine guns into an hotel, and from an upper floor mowed down a mass of people at an event, 60 dead, and hundreds wounded); Chump was asked about gun control, said "we'll look at it". And a few weeks later, made it even EASIER to get guns (in some States, they'd ask more question re a dog licence).

And of course, he might win in November, the election will be decided by relatively low numbers of voters in about 7 or 8 'Swing States' and the fact that he's even regarded as credible is a testament to the amount of gullibility over there.

I assume that all those Americans who were horrified by the no-abortion policy pushed through in many states will be only to glad to vote for a woman president, who might just happen to believe that women have the right to determine what happens to their bodies and who hope that a Democratic female president might just see things their way.

I wish Kamala Harris all the best - she certainly will have a nasty fight on her hands as she ticks all the boxes for Trump's prejudices.

A: she is a woman, and Trump has only contempt for women
B: she is hardly WASP (white Anglo-Saxon Protestant

He will doubtless have some very nasty, not to say obscene comments to make about the woman.

I trust she will manage to ignore them, as she probably will, as no woman gets to where she is in politics, especially not in the USA which is hardly Women's Lib Paradise without having learned to fight and fight hard.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 23-Jul-24 13:39:56

The voting process was exactly as transparent as it had always been.

It was never questioned until Trump lost.

Frankly he is a pain in the ass.

I do think Trump has a sort of messiah complex, and people want to be led to promised land, and its led to a huge well SM funded industry to keep things that way:

It seems to me it has features of a cult not a political campaign where one might say,
"Well I agree with this or that policy but OTOH I disagree with that, but on balance will vote for him" It demands obedience and involves shunning - a very powerful weapon - to those who disagree.

They do believe that Trump is the victim and it has been a witch hunt against him, if you tell a lie often enough they will believe you.

Exactly the same with Johnson, many still think he was the victim too.

Maybe that's the key? The victim mentality possibly.

red1 Tue 23-Jul-24 12:55:33

glad i don't live in the usa, what a divided place, after all the progress, the trump are dragging them back into the wild west.

And Trump can't stand Harris because she's a woman who works and has her own brain!

I'm not a big fan of hers but I hope she becomes first female President and her hubby becomes First Gentleman as a 2-finger sign to Trump! And we know what ''Trump'' means here in England, and he certainly is one!
