There has never been a male spouse of a US PRESIDENT and if Kamala is nominated as candidate and elected , her husband would be known as FIRST GENTLEMAN … I wish her every success in the election as she will have to face off with bully boy Trump

MaizieD you obviously missed my post of 16.22.08 🙈

I did miss it.

It still doesn't help me to understand why you felt you needed to post a bit of gossip about Harris's past. But let's leave it.

It isn’t gossip it is a fact, highlighted at the time, and again when she was appointed as VP.

Politics is a dirty business as you well now, their past is
there for all to see, even more so since the invention of the www.

Indeed, public life is dirty business.

We could all look to how the affairs of Princes, Princesses, Kings, Prime Ministers are reported and highlighted.

Current or former POTUS. No stone left without turning.

Urmstongran Mon 22-Jul-24 19:08:32

Mind your ears, Harris.
Your security service are not up to scratch.

Urmstongran Mon 22-Jul-24 19:05:13

Ms Harris has since received endorsements from a series of high-profile Democrats, who may otherwise have challenged her for the nomination. They included the Democratic governors Gavin Newsom of California, JB Pritzker of Illinois, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Wes Moore of Maryland and Tim Walz of Minnesota.

Mr Newsom said: “With our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against Donald Trump’s dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than America’s vice-president, Kamala Harris.”

Ms Whitmer, who is co-chairman of Ms Harris’ campaign, said: “In Vice-President Harris, Michigan voters have a candidate they can count on to lower their costs, protect their freedoms, and build an economy that works for working people.

Ah well, an outbreak of political discussion without grumpiness didn’t last long.
What’s the problem with urmston making a comment on a comment about gg13? I might have objected if urmston was making unfounded criticisms about GG13 but she was saying something positive - something I expect many of us would agree with
Apologies for my Pollyanna approach which will irritate I suppose

Casdon Mon 22-Jul-24 18:58:10

I’d love that too Wyllow. I think it would take a lot of the heat out the discussions.

Wyllow3 Mon 22-Jul-24 18:54:22

If people are giving "facts" such as the issue above about a politician please can they give it with a source? Look it up for ourselves.

Galaxy Mon 22-Jul-24 18:53:04

It seems to be a feisty day.
It wont be deleted because of me Maizie I much prefer it all to stand.
And how tiring you find it doesnt interest me as you would say.

Kamala Harris was very close to Willie Brown.

He helped her to get two influential positions in California.

There is lots of info on the internet.

Are you anti democratic as well, GG13.

Or are you spreading tales about Harris just for 'balance'?

Balance I imagine in GG13’s case. I find her to be measured in her responses. She likes fairnessand will often give the other POV. There is, of course, always one to consider! (Just that these threads are often an echo chamber 🤣).

I'd much rather have a response from GG13, Ug.

I'm afraid that your opinion doesn't interest me.

How rude.

Casdon Mon 22-Jul-24 18:46:59

Thanks Rosie51. I’ve never understood why women are so ruthless in their pursuit of women in positions of power who have relationships with men with a past, when men who do the same (or worse) seem to get a feee pass.

In fairness to GrannyGravy13 what she said is factually accurate. What wasn’t accurate was that he was still married at the time, which GG13 did not say. It was a consensual relationship years after his divorce, which neither of them have denied. It’s a bit of a non story really, it’s just that the Trump entourage are trying to make something of it.

Just in the interests of the accuracy everyone says they want, he was still legally married, not divorced, but separated for many years. That's stated clearly in the Reuter's factcheck.

Of course it's a non story, much of the dirt dished out on public figures whether politicians or not comes under the same heading.

Odious as he is I can imagine even Trump has been subject to similar treatment, people do like to gild the lily even when there's plenty of real ammunition.

foxie48 Mon 22-Jul-24 18:31:41

It was "fact checked" by Reuters because the facts were being manipulated to suggest KH was having an illicit affair with a married man to enhance her career prospects AND it wasn't true!

Why anyone is prepared to be a politician is totally beyond me. It's not just a dirty business it pollutes everyone! Just out of interest I looked at a huge variety of media to see how Biden's announcement and KH's endorsement was reported tbh it was pretty sickening .

Forgiven Urmstongran, I know, I’m boring on about fake news again.

Having never called Trump supporters rednecks or said anything about him being shot, I’m relieved Galaxy doesn’t mean me, at least.

It only takes one poster to step out of Galaxy's line and we're all tarred with the same brush.

I realise that this could be deleted, but it gets a bit tiring..

MaizieD Mon 22-Jul-24 18:15:49

True or not, it's still gossip. Why did you think we needed to be told about it? hmm

GrannyGravy13 Mon 22-Jul-24 18:09:58

It’s been fact checked by Reuters.

If she receives the Democratic nomination, I would like her to win.

Unfortunately I do not think that the USA is going to vote for a female POTUS, especially a women of colour.

In case you missed it the first time MaizieD

Politically I am more a Republican than a Democrat but hope for the sake of the rest of the world that Kamala Harris or whoever is to replace Joe Biden kicks Trump in to the wilderness.
I really love your posts Urms, I don’t agree with many of your political views but love how you throw a little grenade in here and there and then sit back and enjoy.
Always polite, always self deprecating. Always make me smile.
Makes it all more entertaining for the rest of us.
