There has never been a male spouse of a US PRESIDENT and if Kamala is nominated as candidate and elected , her husband would be known as FIRST GENTLEMAN … I wish her every success in the election as she will have to face off with bully boy Trump

Kamala Harris will mop the floor with Trump in a debate. It will be interesting.

Lauren59,

I think so too ..

I am sure she will appeal to lots of women, ethnics and the gay population which is very very large in California and New York City.

Afterall, he is a criminal, a liar on top of being a total racist and lunatic ..

That I suspect is because Obama would prefer not to see a coronation, but I have no doubt that if/when Harris is chosen, Obama will support her. Pelosi, will do the same

Yes WW, from the politics podcasts I’ve listened to this morning (TRIP, The News Agents etc) that appears to be the thinking.

Obama (it is believed) thinks Harris would present as a more ‘valid’ candidate if she enters the race having won a Democrat party vote, rather than a straight coronation.

Of course, he’ll support her either way. Let’s face it - anyone is going to better than Trump!

Old news.
When KH was made VP she was barracked at a press conference for not spending time down on the Mexican border, assessing the migrant crisis. She snapped back “I haven’t been to Europe yet either”.

According to Lionel Shriver who writes for the Spectator, Kamala Harris hasn't even visited Europe.. I fear she will be hopelessly out of her depth and not be able to cope with an election campaign.. I hope the Dems have other candidates.

She has certainly visited Germany in 2022 to meet with NATO leaders from European countries. Also that year she visited Poland and Romania.
In 2021 she went to France and met with Macron. All this is well documented in News reports.

Yes you are correct J52.. I wonder if the article I read today in Unherd is deliberate misdirection.. the beginning of a campaign against her..

Merion Mon 22-Jul-24 12:39:57

Kamala Harris has been representing President Biden at the Munich Security Conference for the last three years.

Lionel Shriver needs to buy an atlas.

Another recommendation to watch the TRIP video podcast.

I know absolutely nothing about her except that she’s black or maybe mixed race and a woman.

Informative podcast arrived today from the This is Politics team with Scaramucci and Kay from the US Trip. They think Obama would prefer an open contest because if KH is chosen (and they think she would) it would give her run more legitimacy. Well worth a listen.

Yes, an excellent The Rest is Politics podcast (also on YouTube). I learnt a lot about the process for the Democratic Party and the possible candidates. Very measured and informative from people who actually know what they are talking about.

A woman, mixed race, and her husband is Jewish. Could be interesting times indeed.

🤣🤣🤣
You wish.

Strange comment. Why shouldn’t she? A very well educated lady with a greater understanding of American laws than Trump seems to have.

The other issue I think is that two days ago the American voter was faced with the choice between to old candidates, and many were not prepared to turn out to vote. This is definitely a game changer.

Yes, we now have an elderly candidate called Trump.

.....who recently couldn't recall (twice) that Obama was no longer president, confused the leaders of Turkey and Hungary, warned that the world was headed for a second — not third — world war, the statement re 1917 flu ending WW2) and called Hannibal Lecter (who he seemed to think was real) a "wonderful man."

On a par with Biden then , remember the president of Ukraine was called "Putin", and over the years has been the premier gaffe meister, of the whitehouse. including racism and misogyny, and snide asides against voters.
Just saying. See NYP Jo Bidens worst gaffes, and that was only until 2023.
So neither Trump nor Biden above reproach.
Hope Harris gets in, be good to see the President of America, a woman, will she be be beyond reproach?. Will she be friendly towards the UK. Interesting times. Much more so than our elections.

It’s currently unclear who exactly the Democrats will rally behind – while Biden and the Clintons threw what’s left of their political clout behind Harris, other big names (including one Barack Obama) didn’t immediately endorse any prospective candidate.

If Harris gets the nomination, which is far from nailed down, it will be interesting to see the impact of several strands of her previous experience, as well as her performance during the campaign.

She is not particularly popular with progressives, including in her own party, because, in part, of her actions and attitudes as a DA, although recent advocacy around women’s rights and reproductive health may counter that a bit, and if she is nominated, many will hopefully ignore their dislike and vote for her anyway - anecdotally, I’ve already heard from a dozen or so friends and family that they will do so.

*What can be, unburdened by what has been*

One of Kamala's favourite quotes.

Hoping to hear that again in the debate.

Nice quote there.

Trump wants to take the USA back to segregation and no rights for women. He believes in white supremacy.
I have to hope that women will not vote for him. So many years of women fighting for their rights could be obliterated by Trump as Potus.

If Harris is nominated she will do very well to focus on the reproductive rights. That is a definite weakness with Trump.
