There has never been a male spouse of a US PRESIDENT and if Kamala is nominated as candidate and elected , her husband would be known as FIRST GENTLEMAN … I wish her every success in the election as she will have to face off with bully boy Trump
Has
Not hasn't.
She hasn't raised $310 million!
That's more than Trump.
JN450 - I take it you’re equally critical of those around Trump, who cover up or sanitise his rambling nonsense and racist, Misogynistic beliefs

Kamala is, imo, quite effective.
NotSpaghetti that is exactly the sort of people we met. They follow the bible closely ( mostly the King James Version) Ignorant they are not! A different way of living and a different outlook on life. In a way closer to the Amish people. Kings and leaders of men are often ‘sinners’ in the Bible. King David with his stolen wife who murdered his wife’s husband, the apostle Paul, most of them in fact. I suppose they see Trump as another in a long line of sinners put there by God to lead ‘his’ people.

I'd be voting for her if I was in the USA. She fights for animal rights and women's rights and Indian/Black rights and her hubby is Jewish, even her husband's ex-wife praises her and back her up and she's a brilliant mum to her 2 teenage step-kids!
KAMALA! KAMALA!
And don't forget the bit about her lying through her teeth to the Americans and the rest of the world for the past two or three years saying Joe Biden was as sharp as a tack when everyone who has seen him during that time knew otherwise (his cognitive decline was obvious for all to see). Mind you, it was only the most powerful position any person can hold that Joe was presiding over and she was lying about so perhaps it wasn't that important? Sorry, but not my kind of role model I'm afraid.
Exactly Norah... you would think they would save their energy for non-Christian "others"!
I find it curious.
NotSpaghetti, Lots of things that the Democrats are "pro" are automatically "bad" - same sex marriage and abortion being high on the list but anything that is challenging the protestant norms. Catholics are Christian but are on the "wrong" path
Actually, whilst living in American holiday homes, many Southern Baptist attempted to "save" us, as Catholics are not, to their view "saved Christians" - quite odd to our view, we smiled and nodded often, whilst going on our own way.
When we lived in America, Syracute we were at first amazed by the people we met who wore Christianity in such a way as it was opressive - the pressure to join them at church was enormous - and they weren't easy to have a religious, social or even educational conversations with.
They were evangelical about their beliefs 40 years ago. They were kind and generous, and some were educated and locally "important" people but they didn't see the world as I did.
Not all Trump voters are ignorant - they just have a different way of looking at the world.
They know Trump's flawed.
Since time and migration, and social attitudes have moved on since we lived there. These "go back to the old days" Christians are struggling with cultural changes and see it as a war.
I know this is a simplification but basically, if your type of Christianity rules your life - you have to believe in Trump - as with all his (many) faults the alternative is (presumably) Satan.
The no1 thing will most likely be to put "God into government" as a patriot and a Christian. There is a feeling that other faiths and those of no faith are growing - and the Trumpian idea of "fighting" this is compelling.
Lots of things that the Democrats are "pro" are automatically "bad" - same sex marriage and abortion being high on the list but anything that is challenging the protestant norms. Catholics are Christian but are on the "wrong" path - rosary beads were burned in some areas as being, like Harry Potter things linked to sorcery.
There's a series of "conferences coming up soon where these "extreme" Christians will gather - ReAwaken America I think it's called.
This was in the Washington Post last month:
The biggest and most reliable core of the political religious right are White evangelicals, who Pew in 2023 found are 14 percent of the U.S. adult population. Of that group, 76 percent told the research firm PRRI last fall that they would vote for Trump
This was before Harris.
And before Trump was saved by God.

All the American Baptists I have met would vote for Trump because they see him as understanding them and they believe he has a more pro Christian, anti abortion, biblical stand. I get that but it is just a shame he is who he is. The people I have had dealings with are not what you would call ignorant or poor, either. Very upper middle class by our standards, very wealthy and very, very traditional.
Yet they are ignorant if they support Trump .
They choose to ignore facts and most likely watch Fox News which is like a televised version of the Daily Mail. Just because they are wealthy or upper middle class does not give them a free pass and excuse their ignorance . After January 6th there is no excuse for voting for Trump. He is a traitor and THAT is inexcusable .

KAMALA! KAMALA!
I read that it is pronounced Kama- la
welbeck
this may have been covered already, but i have nothing of a political nature to contribute, the lady's name is not an american variant on pamela.
it is apparently from her Indian heritage, (real Indian, not mistaken for Indians by europeans newly landed in an unknown continent long time past), and should be pronounced
comma-la.
If you pronounce it as 'comma-la with an English English accent it sounds nothing like the name that her supporters are chanting at her rallies. Americans tend to pronounce that 'o' differently. They don't say 'stop', they say what sounds to us like 'stahp'.
So, although Americans are telling us that it's pronounced 'commala' I'm hearing 'Kahmala'... which does sound almost like 'Pamela' 😆

if, in the future, say the president, being a man,
was married to a man,
who would be the first gentleman,
must be the president,
and his spouse ? the next best gentleman, maybe ?
the first plus one . . . ??

that would be a promotion for him too,
like going up the football leagues,
as he is currently
the second gentleman of the usa.

David yes I absolutely know what trump is saying. Here I Europe we fear him
Syracute, I’ve only visited America once, we were there for 3 weeks just before Trump won when Hilary Clinton had more votes .
We did the classic flight into Boston, fantastic stay in thst interesting city. Over to cape cod/kennedy museum, wild beautiful scenery. Drove to NEw York City. Just wonderful. I’ve a photograph of me with the two smiling NYC police officers guarding Trump tower. I loved NYC. Train to Washington DC - stunned by how small The Whitehouse seemed, how relaxed and friendly the police presence. I loved America and the friendly polite people we met. We’d planned Calafornia two years ago but life intervened
So,- I suspect we mostly met `democrats. At Arlington we travelled with a military family. They always vote Republican but said this year couldn’t vote Trump.
Is there something lingering about slavery, the liberal north the more conservative south. The north more likely to have incomers than Texas for example
America- we share a language but our cultures are different. Increasingly so.

How can the American electorate not see how dangerous he is
Because too many watch Fox News .
Because Trump is telling them how dangerous Harris is

I wonder why (hmmmmm) Trump does not want to debate with her on TV/public ;) ?
... because - from what I've detected when listening to him - he talks in soundbites, sometimes struggles to finish a sentence and, basically, does not have the intellect to partake in a constructive debate, can't ad-lib, and knows it, but his ego won't let him admit it, so he'll find an excuse - one that will inevitably lay the blame on her, probably with an insult or two - hasn't he already called her a "rat"? Trump is a performance politician and I think it has to be all-about-him.
Mind you, I have no idea what she's like either. Maybe she gives as good as she gets? Or dishes it also?
I prefer the British political argy-bargy where at least we expect our politicians to tone it down a bit. The American 'scene' with all the waving flags, MAGA caps, flapping banners, and other razzmatazz it too in your face for me. Too much like a jamboree.
Yes, my comment was very much tongue and cheek. We all know why, don't we.
He’s such a chump .. don’t think any US. Citizen would fall for that idea..well hope not🤞🤞
Doing away with elections? That is scary - or he could have a Russian style Putin election just for show. If he really said that, Kamala should scream it from the rooftops because that’s not the American democratic way. That should be enough for her to win.
She was reasonable in the 2020 vice-presidential debate. She got a lot of publicity - and credit - for repeatedly telling Pence to stop interrupting her
