There has never been a male spouse of a US PRESIDENT and if Kamala is nominated as candidate and elected , her husband would be known as FIRST GENTLEMAN … I wish her every success in the election as she will have to face off with bully boy Trump

I wonder why (hmmmmm) Trump does not want to debate with her on TV/public ;) ?

... because - from what I've detected when listening to him - he talks in soundbites, sometimes struggles to finish a sentence and, basically, does not have the intellect to partake in a constructive debate, can't ad-lib, and knows it, but his ego won't let him admit it, so he'll find an excuse - one that will inevitably lay the blame on her, probably with an insult or two - hasn't he already called her a "rat"? Trump is a performance politician and I think it has to be all-about-him.

Mind you, I have no idea what she's like either. Maybe she gives as good as she gets? Or dishes it also?

I prefer the British political argy-bargy where at least we expect our politicians to tone it down a bit. The American 'scene' with all the waving flags, MAGA caps, flapping banners, and other razzmatazz it too in your face for me. Too much like a jamboree.

How can the American electorate not see how dangerous he is

Maybe because many have never studied European history? Or only American history?

I don't know. But it's alarming.

Trump seems to be indicating that he will do away with voting, if he is successful. "In four years time, you won't have to vote again." It's all over Twitter. So quite openly talking about a dictatorship

This is a recent article about her running mate options.
It's on the 538 website which I think is pretty good and draws from many sources.

Reading news. "Harris energizes the Democratic base, O'Malley Dillon said, pointing to a net approval rating that is 54 percentage points ahead of Trump with Black voters, 25 percentages better than Trump among young voters, 21 points better among women voters, and 30 points higher than Trump among Asian American and Pacific Islander voters.

She said Harris performs better than Trump among undecided, independent, and third-party Latino voters as well as Latino voters who are skeptical of both Biden and Trump."

Seems to be positive.

Just watched your link Macadia
Thank you.
Yes she was definitely on the ball there - I listened to the next couple too as my YouTube is set to roll on.

The Rory Stewart/Alistair Campbell piece was interesting too.

I feel that I know a lot more about her now as she's obviously getting more coverage.

Yes, I believe her speeches improve with practice, Macadia.

I remember her asking very astute questions during the Mueller investigation. I like how switched-on she is.

Maybe others do too. From when Biden withdrew in her favour (till yesterday lunchtime), there's been a 700% increase in voter registrations.

38,500 people, most under 34, have registered to vote on Vote.org, a nonprofit, nonpartisan voting registration technology platform.

^The 700% spike in voter registrations for the platform was the largest of the cycle and was higher than when Taylor Swift endorsed Biden in 2020. It is unknown what affiliation most of the registrations counted for, but it is likely that a majority are Democrats, given the timing.^

I think KH will rise to the existing challenges and beyond -believe support for her is ever growing 🤞🤞

I just stumbled upon this Harris interview and now I understand : she cannot give speeches under pressure (like someone here mentioned) but look at how clear and intelligent she is when NOT giving a speech. Impressive ! youtu.be/Ne3-KA8ja6g?feature=shared

Aw.

Siope Wed 24-Jul-24 19:29:35

I don’t think that’s true, GG13. According to Newsweek and others, the original source of that claim was an article on a very unreliable UK site, which was picked up and tweeted by a US TV bod. Lots of people told her it was inaccurate, and she deleted the post.

As far as I know, neither Swift nor Beyoncé have said they back Harris, although Beyoncé has let the campaign use ‘Freedom’.

Wyllow3 Wed 24-Jul-24 18:29:11

They are trying to stop the transfer, filed a complaint, but it's likely to take some time and ?? legally (checked with CNN)

Great, GrannyGravy13. It means more than the money raised.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Jul-24 18:20:06

Beyoncé and Taylor Smith are to hold a fundraiser concert for Kamala Harris.

The trouble is Norah the American system seems to need a lot of money!

I've no idea how much the American system needs.

I'm merely impressed Kamala raised money rather quickly. Particularly, as it seems "Republicans have pushed back against Harris receiving benefit of Biden's campaign funds" - I'd assume she needs campaign funds.

America seems enthralled with money - Kamala has raised money quickly.

Norah Wed 24-Jul-24 15:26:29

It seems American women must be thrilled at the prospect of a woman POTUS. Such a long time coming, so many ineffective men POTUS.

To me. it seems childish for a candidate to bash the other candidate. It also shows weakness and is a method often used by people with low self-esteem, including bullies.I would prefer candidates who propose plans, optimism, comradery, forgiveness, a new start, action, inclusion, intelligence; not a candidate who insults their competitor. Why not talk about their views or hopes on issues around the world. Am I talking about a fantasy? Does that no longer exist in this world? Everyone seems so mean and hateful these days.

I agree that there should be less of the nasty personal attacks. I can't help comparing the vicious campaign in USA to the generally polite and peaceful handover between Sunak and Starmer.

Rosie51 Wed 24-Jul-24 14:38:29

It's all beginning to look quite hopeful isn't it? I thought Biden had little to no chance against Trump, but Harris looks to be a credible challenger. It shouldn't have been a surprise that Trump and his allies would try to get her disqualified from standing, but it shows how 'running scared' they are. All good signs along with the polls showing her in the lead, albeit only narrowly.

Its an ideal I wish happened.

I think I've been in mourning since Obama went. Clips from his last speech

thoughtful and inclusive "dont stick to your bubbles"

Yes, Harris would do well to consult with him.
