I’m glad that the Bibby Stockholm is going. It never made sense. It is costing taxpayers £22.5 million – equivalent to £41,000 a day and more than an asylum hotel, the Home Office disclosed in December 2023.

But surely these 3 ‘holding places’ were cheaper than providing hotel accommodation?

I wonder how Labour will sort this. It’s very interesting.

No, if they are professionals they will go to where they can work in their profession. Why would they want to stay in Weymouth?

If they have come over by small boat, the chances are they have destroyed any paperwork/identification.

It will take a lot longer than six months to verify their identity, to find out where they come from, and eventually establish if they are skilled.

If they are skilled they will need to prove that they are capable in both the skill/profession and the English language

On the plus side the £20 million cost will be saved and usefully used elsewhere.
Hopefully the professionals will include doctors and nurses.

My view?
Labour will be clearing the asylum backlog by approving all claims, removing the Rwanda deterrent before proving it worked or didn't, and now closing all temporary accommodation for illegal migrants will be fine. We have cash, housing & infrastructure in abundance.

If anyone was in any doubt where the Labour miracle of growth will come from, it's now clear. They will continue down the road of an open-door policy for migration and counting topline GDP rather than the much more realistic GDP per capita.

No they will have cleared the backlog. Many of the Bibby Stockholm people are professionals and hopefully will be able to contribute yo the economy by then.

Such a good idea, not. The barge was good enough for the working population,but not these people, who expect so much more. So where will they put them then.
