I saw Anne Diamond on TV this morning announcing this sad news. She was visibly shaken and close to tears as one of her sons is a soldier.

The police are still saying this is not a terror attack, it’s a mental health issue attack. Frankly that’s rubbish in my opinion. The targeting of a soldier wearing uniform, outside the barracks! Really! No, I’m not having it.

It could be personal - attacking a soldier outside his barracks is like attacking a civilian outside his house.

The attacker could be an ex or current soldier, it could be a personal grudge, it could be a paranoid schizophrenic. It could be any number of scenarios, including terrorism. Why waste energy catastrophising before we are informed of the true situation?

I'm very sad to read this news, I do wish him and his family well.

Any unprovoked attack on our military personnel should be viewed as terror related and punished accordingly . If a soldier is hurt this badly what else are you supposed to call it.

Depends on who is reporting on it.

The truth is no longer sufficient for some.

Manipulating words seems to appeal quite a lot these days.

The attacker’s face is all over the internet.

Yes another Lee Rigby case.
During the years of an active IRA the military were not permitted to wear any uniform or fatigues out of the base.
I think we are heading there again b

I hope the soldier pulls through. What a dreadful thing to happen.

maddyone Wed 24-Jul-24 11:17:25

Yes, I heard they caught him about twenty minutes after the attack.
If it’s not a terror attack, I sincerely hope he doesn’t get away with ‘mental health issues’ because it sounds very planned to me, and very targeted.

BBC2 Radio 2 news have just said the police arrested someone in connection with this horrific attack.

Sparklefizz Wed 24-Jul-24 11:00:45

I agree maddyone. It's a truly shocking attack.

I’ve just heard that at the moment police are not treating this as a terror attack. I’m unsure what other motive anyone would have to attack and try to kill a soldier, dressed in uniform, outside army barracks.

Patsy70 Wed 24-Jul-24 10:18:08

How terrifying that this attack happened outside the soldier’s home. My son in law was also in the armed forces. Hopefully, he will recover.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Jul-24 10:09:04

As a parent of a serving Officer in our armed forces, this brings me out in goose bumps of fear.

Lee Rigby wasn’t so lucky to survive…

maddyone Wed 24-Jul-24 09:55:10

Thankfully he’s survived but is very seriously injured. A man in a mask on a motorbike attacked him near an army facility. The police have said it may be a terror attack, but haven’t confirmed or denied that as yet.

Let us hope he survives and recovers.
