Our family has had one foot in U.K. and one foot in Spain from 11 years before Spain joined the EU until now.

Had an English and Spanish Bank Account simples.

I thought this debanking malarkey had been stopped by the Financial Conduct Aurthority? It is obviously continuing. And is pretty scary for those it affects I imagine. No one can function in this world without a bank account! And who are these banks to just cancel people?

Well they have 'de-banked' 100s of 1000s of British people living in EU, because of Brexit.

Well if they live in Europe (the EU is it a country just a bureaucratic non accountable nightmare) then surely they’d open bank accounts there. My sister did in Estapona. It was straightforward.

Btw has the EU had its accounts signed off yet? They hadn’t been audited satisfactorily for years last time I checked.

Didn’t mean to slap you Maybee, sorry if it felt that way.
I’m really not a violent person smile

I did know. I am on that thread. Don’t worry. I’ll ask HQ to remove my comment. It might be a friendly reminder to you but it came across as a slap on the wrist to me.

The other thread was about Farage in the USA, he's back home now, been in parliament, back on GB news, etc, new issues coming up, hence this new thread?

Farage should be in parliament or working in his constituency. Why is he still on GB News?

Probably just to annoy people like you….🙄

No need Maybee, I was just giving you a friendly reminder that there’s a thread about where Farage is already running smile

We have a global account Dinahmo which we use when we’re abroad. Although based in the UK, we can use the credit card anywhere in the world with no credit card charges. Then we just pay it off at the end of the month, like any other credit card.

We’re talking about debanking on this thread, there’s another thread about where Farage is.

So sorry. I’ll crawl back into my hole….

Credit cards too. We live in France and had our credit cards stopped which was very annoying. So now we live without credit which I suppose is no bad thing.

Can this be true? I understand that there were banking changes following Brexit, which caused problems for people living abroad, but surely not because of parents?
Which bank? Have they responded ?

Oreo Thu 25-Jul-24 07:39:05

Debanking of bank customers has been going on for a while here.
Not only Nigel Farage and his son, there are many instances of it.Nothing to do with Brexit at all.
Google it and you will see.

Mamie Thu 25-Jul-24 07:19:08

Some of the UK banks closed the accounts of UK citizens living in the EU because of Brexit. Our pensions come from the UK and are paid into our UK accounts and then we transfer them. Fortunately our bank was not one of the ones that closed accounts. No idea about NF's son, but sounds like there must be more to the story.

nanna8 Thu 25-Jul-24 06:12:10

I didn’t know banks could do that - I have never heard of it here. There are that many banks trying to get your business I wouldn’t have thought it was viable. I walk down our very small main street and there are at least 6 banks all wanting our money. Their charges are outrageous and their profits enormous. Maybe they are different over in Europe ?

False news?

I think its a false rumour MayBee its not out there anywhere.

It was Nigel Farage himself on his hourly slot on GB news (which I know is beneath a lot of you)
He mentioned the bank but I don’t remember what it was. He said his son had had a letter or an email asking if he was a son of Nigel Farage and when he said he was he debanked..

JudyBloom Wed 24-Jul-24 21:41:48

It's just truly shocking that Nigel's Son has been debanked.
What a disgrace! I saw Nigel telling everyone on GB News this evening and he was understandbly upset about this.

Wyllow3 Wed 24-Jul-24 21:27:59

Where is the evidence that anything at all has happened?

Farage Jnr finding out that you don't have any choice over who your parents are.

That should have nothing whatsoever to do with it. I hope the banking Ombudsmann gets quickly on to this, and stops bigotry in its tracks. Absolutely disgusting.

(living in the EU?)

Of course: his children have dual nationality haven’t they so they can access things that have been denied to the rest of us
sad.

Source for this? I'm not seeing anything about it in the news.
