Not emotionless.
Calm, reassuring.

Bereavement wipes out everything
The former BBC Newscaster and anchor man for so many State occasions is appearing in court today with having indecent images of children.
Over 30 images in all, with three being of the most serious level…
Not emotionless.
Calm, reassuring.
Yes I suppose it's their job to be emotionless. He just seemed a bit robotic to me. A lot of people liked and trusted him so what do I know?
Several in the BBC who worked with HE have spoken of their
shock, Nicholas Witchell spoke of their friendship,

He always seemed pretty emotionless to me.
That's fine for a newsreader. They are there to read the news not to show emotion. Sophie Raworth doesn't show emotion, Clive Myrie also good. Fiona Bruce tends to put emotional emphasis on her delivery which really annoys me. She's not an actress, she's a newsreader and I don't want a dramatic story.
How they hold it together when reading difficult news is amazing. I know they have seen the news previously so it's not a shock as it may be to us, the viewer, but a calm delivery is what we need a time of crisis.

A vulnerable man?!!!
I make of it that on any issue I listen to Owen Jones then do the opposite. It serves me well.
Previous quote by Owen Jones in The Times today.
July '23 "The Sun is a disgusting rag and they have to pay for what they've done to Huw Edwards. They tried to destroy someone's life with false claims of illegality involving a minor. We know now there was no criminality, and The Sun have driven a vulnerable man into medical care"
So make of that what you will!

I'd forgotten the King's Coronation. He did that as well. 💩
I feel so angry and upset that he has tainted every important UK event for decades. His face and voice is woven through all these events. How dare he the traitor. It's deeply distressing to read this:
Edwards presided over many historic events including the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2012 London Olympics and the weddings of both Prince William and Prince Harry.
His announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth II has been viewed almost a million times on YouTube, while his anchoring of the Trooping of the Colour events has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
The first time he read the news I was so impressed. He came over as kind and interested in the various news stories. He was magnificent just keeping the commentary going that awful day as the Queen was slowly dying.
Very good at his job. Very unfortunate special interests. I'm so sorry he's let us all but mostly himself and his family down so badly.
Always seemed robotic in his delivery. Very pleased with himself. Never understood why he was so popular and well paid.
It will tarnish the BBC because it will pose the question ‘how many more?’ I remember there were rumours about the judiciary once, going right back in years and it took a long time to live it down. Not a good look.
I never liked him, used to turn to another channel whenever he came on but never thought he was involved in anything like this. Sad for his family I suppose.
I don't think refusing to pay the fee is sensible unless they don't plan to watch or listen to anything made by the BBC, which covers a lot of ground.
Well, that's shame. They can't put us all in prison, there's no room.
I don't think the BBC has behaved with any sense over this and other notorious scandals.
No, nor do I. But I don't think that people refusing to pay the licence fee will help - how could it, whether they were jailed or not? And is it ok to break the law because prisons are so overcrowded?

Exactly Petra, the BBC are compiling quite a track record of serious mishandling of these appalling revelations. How deep does it go, how long has it been going on, how many more evil employees of the BBC are there lurking under their protective umbrella of silence. Mental health be b***ered it’s not an illness it’s sheer self gratifying depravity. My heart weeps for the children.
Also as someone with many years as an RMN and CPN I completely agree Juno...
I knew a child abuser years ago, use to give him a lift when he
going to draw his dole, he raped his daughter, a friend of mine’
from junior school until she was 15, he was an unemployed alcoholic

Years ago it was suggested there was a ring of similar men in high positions in TV, royalty etc. It was discounted at the time but now I'm thinking it might be true.
It was more than suggested Innocent men’s lives were ruined 😡 why, because the not fit for purpose Met police didn’t look at the accusers ( Carl Beech) laptop 🤦🏼♀️ If they had they would have found thousands of images.
This cost us, the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of pounds.
One of the accused was awarded £900, 000.

Power is a risky business. He was such a high profile broadcaster that he had power to influence others in the organisation, and it is hard to challenge power, if you are less powerful. Some powerful people lose perspective and get a false view of what it is ok for them to do, and can believe they are invulnerable. He seems to have seen himself in that way. Organisations like the BBC - and others - need to pay much attention to this, so it is safe for people to 'speak truth to power'. This is not easy, but needs to be done.

I feel no pity for him at all.
The victims, and their families, of course.
Me neither.
If he did proposition young men in junior positions at the BBC too, then he is a predator.
The impression the BBC gave at first was that he may have been a bit 'forward' with female colleagues. 🤔
There is a cure its called castration.
Junoesque I respect your knowledge, as a mother of an adored daughter who was let down by psychiatric teams so took her own life nearly 7 years ago , and as someone who has
worked with MIND and SAMS I too have knowledge of mental
illness
child abuse of all forms are about power.why is it the abusers hold positions of power, from the lowly to the most high?
what can be done about it? , its the ugly face of the human condition.

That's my money!!
(Well a portion of my licence fee.)
I wonder how many people will refuse to pay their licence fee as a result of this and other scandals at the BBC?
Scandals? I should say crimininality.
Cover-ups.I don't think refusing to pay the fee is sensible unless they don't plan to watch or listen to anything made by the BBC, which covers a lot of ground.
I agree that it's criminality though. And that anyone found guilty (or pleading guilty) should be punished, regardless of how 'big' they are.
A pension of £300k!! I suppose if he's paid into it it can't be taken away, and it is part of his salary. It doesn't seem fair though, as presumably he's been doing this for a lot longer than we know. The police can have their pension withdrawn if they are sacked for misconduct (I think - my understanding is based on years of watching detective series on TV, not actual knowledge, so I'm happy to be corrected), so I don't know why that doesn't apply across the board?
