Don’t mess with the tolerant people in Brighton.

So, the fascists turned up outside of the targeted building, and as far as I can see the road is full of the tolerant folk who are as someone said are really tolerant of tolerance, and very intolerant of intolerance.

I've no idea if it's true, but the word here in Brighton is that the fascists were met off the trains by drag queens and a samba band.

You don't have to be an idiot to bring white supremacy to the most welcoming and inclusive city in the country, but it sure helps

This is a red herring.

We have a Labour councillor who has made an outrageous remark, and will in the course of time be held to judgement.

We have all remarked on it.

What is left to say.

But flogging a dead horse doesn’t detract from the point of this thread,

Which is to celebrate the fundamental goodness of the human spirit and the vast majority in which this resides.

He wasn’t just making a remark, he had either a mic or megaphone and it was a rent a rant situation to the crowds around him.

Kandinsky

If anyone from Reform had said it the internet would have exploded.

A Labour councillor says it and suddenly everyone’s busy having dinner.

Every single person I know would condemn his stupid and appalling remarks, and he should be ashamed and penalised, having said that Farage has indeed said far far worse whilst campaigning about the small boats!

Iam64 Thu 08-Aug-24 20:16:24

That’s nonsense Kandinsky

Well seems to me that there’s a real down on anyone here who is not an ardent Labour supporter? Wwm2 so there’s an irony about your quote. I hope you can see that.

Each and every one of us are entitled to our own political views, and the right to express them in a respectful manner.

Sadly many of us, including myself, appear fatigued and dumbfounded by the last 14 years of Tory rule (or should I say ruin).

Not one promise was kept, we were treated to a myriad of PMs, some elected, some not, various Chancellors and utterly divisive MPs all squaring up to be the next leader.

We lived through a disastrous Brexit, the outcome of which simply appears to legitimise bigots, a dreadful Covid, where we were lied to again and again and lots of dubious contracts were awarded. Normal decent Labour Party supporters have been derided constantly, “loony left”, “woke”, “do gooders”, “bleeding hearts” “snowflakes” and many other unrepeatable names.

No one is suggesting Starmer is a Demi-god, the panacea to all our woes, or that in his first month of office he’ll resolve our “Broken Britain”.

But frankly, I’m a proud Labour voter, though by nature am quite a centralist, and I’m sick to the back teeth of constantly being told “everything is so leftie, media is leftie, nothing is balanced”

Quite frankly, it’s Bollox!

Has it? But not on here where we are.

Yes, it has. Who is 'we'? Do you expect people to follow you around from thread to thread in case you've missed what they've had to say? grin

If is just untrue to say that nobody mentioned it. It was brought up some time ago. People just have other things to do than post the same things on multiple threads. I've been cooking and eating dinner since it was discussed, as I'm sure have others.

Playing Devils advocate, how many pages would there be about it, if a Reform councillor (if there are any?) said something similar?grin

I am so heartened by last night I am so joyful to know I m not the only dammed person in this country, who cares, it’s really lifted my spirits.
We are millions more and we must not be afraid to voice our care and support we need to all work together black, white and brown, forget colour see people for what they are not what their skin is like. A bad person is bad not because of his skin or his birthplace don’t be afraid, say good morning to your Muslim or Jewish neighbour smile at people acknowledge them it will come back four fold

Me too, I feel so much happier today. Well said, BlueBelle.

LizzieDrip Thu 08-Aug-24 19:57:52

A left winger says it and it barely gets a mention

Kandinsky not true.

Many Labour supports on this thread have condemned his comment. You can read them for yourself.

Doodledog Thu 08-Aug-24 19:56:10

The 'cut their throats' incident has been mentioned on other threads.

Namsnanny Thu 08-Aug-24 19:43:13

But can you imagine the outrage on here if any one 'right wing' had said something like that?

But the point is he isn't just anybody he is a Councillor. Ricky Jones.

Your right Kandinsky Why?

Not much of a tolerant human being is he?

The problem with claiming the moral high ground is there is always someone on the same side who will let you down.

Kandinsky Thu 08-Aug-24 19:43:12

The 1st I’d heard about it was a post by Oreo

And it doesn’t matter that it’s one person saying it - that one person was talking to hundreds!

Oreo Thu 08-Aug-24 19:36:38

Well to be fair it hadn’t been mentioned until I just did.

Fleurpepper Thu 08-Aug-24 19:34:01

Firstly- it has clearly been mentionned, loud ,and clear. He was suspended and arrested- and fast. And he is just ONE. Quite simple, really.

Kandinsky Thu 08-Aug-24 19:23:55

I should blooming well think so!

Why is that?

Grandmabatty Thu 08-Aug-24 19:12:40

The labour councillor, who was already suspended, has been arrested.

That quote is written on the Patcham Pylons that people pass as they enter Brighton.

So I think you a a bit muddled.

Kandinsky Thu 08-Aug-24 19:04:46

They are disgusting Nazi fascists and we need to cut all their throats and get rid of them all

This is a Labour councillor?

Jeez, what hope have we got??

Iam64 Thu 08-Aug-24 18:59:59

ronib - I’m sorry that your friend was withiut her carer as a result of the riots. One our family was due to visit her recently bereaved, cancer patient mother. Mum lives in a predominantly Muslim area, she is a brown skinned Muslim . Her daughter no longer follows her faith, is light skinned and ‘could pass for white’. Mum phoned her daughter - don’t come, I’m ok. I’ve locked up, please don’t risk visiting tonight. The EDL were expected to March her road. Riot vans and police waiting.

It isn’t about being ‘an ardent Labour supporter’. I’m so pleased to see some hope expressed here. Starmer’s government inherited an unholy mess. Your concerns about social/nursing care have long been a real concern and worry to many on this forum. Austerity was unnecessary, destructive and frankly disgusting

I’m a Labour supporter but not a Labour bootlicker.I’ll say if I think they get things right and also when they get things wrong.
The ‘ardent’ won’t it’s true, every move they make will be wonderful.Including the dreadful decision to cut the WFA for pensioners.

Oreo Thu 08-Aug-24 18:52:33

Brighton is Brighton🌈
Not as much love about in the so called peaceful protest in East London. There were Bangladesh and Palestine flags being waved by masked men, some awful placards and a Labour Councillor ranting to the rapt crowd around him.Labour, my heart sinks. His message was that the far right should have their throats cut. He’s since been arrested.
Another poster on this forum noticed as did I that quite a lot walking in Walthamstow looked ready for a fight.Thankfully there wasn’t a far right group to fight as they hadn’t turned up.
It seems that a site peddling fake news had a hand in making out on SM that something was planned when it actually wasn’t.
That’s why the Police message to stay at home is the best advice.

Wwm2 what do you mean? Do you mean- so long as you have not voted for Reform?

Sorry?
