The Telegraph headlines always derogatory about Starmer.

I tend to do general searches by topic, which then brings up the breadth of coverage.

Good idea.

Many people dont get their news from that kind of media anymore, its a different landscape now.

Where do they get it from?
I am genuinely curious.
I too want unbalanced "news".

It has got worse.

Oh, sorry, AGGAA4. Ignore my last....

I don't give two hoots for what the media says. I can make up my own mind and Starmer and the police have pulled together to quell the riots.

But surely you only know what Starmer has done because it has been reported in the media? Or has it entered your mind by some sort of osmotic process? 🤔

fancythat I get my news from BBC, some newspapers and Reuters. I haven't read the Telegraph for a long time and nor will I if this is the best they can do.
I live in Wales so as far as I know there's been no rioting here. The EDL wouldn't get much support here.

I am assuming you dont mean newspapers?

Are you meaning from what you see in your area?

Perhaps I've been under a misapprehension, but I always thought the Telegraph was blatantly right wing? I therefore don't see how it can, or would even want to, offer a balanced view.

MaizieD Sat 10-Aug-24 11:47:26

The Telegraph is a blatantly tory newspaper. It has been like this for some time, and worse since the Brexit vote. I don't think it's considered to be 'balanced' any more.

I don't read it because of its paywall, but titles and excerpts from some of its columnists articles appear quite frequently on former twitter and it's like seeing writing from a parallel universe.

But then, I'm a Guardian reader so I would say that, wouldn't I? 😁

While I have my doubts about Starmer and his government I think he handled the 'riots' absolutely correctly and in a timely fashion.

I wish he could have said something about the heartwarming 'counter demonstrations', which, to me. showed a love of country and community in a very positive way. There were more people than just the police helping to calm the situation...

At least the King had some good words to say about them, though...

I always glance at the front page of The European when I pass a news stand. It’s a welcome and amusing antidote to most of the other front pages.

"So often"

RosiesMaw2 Sat 10-Aug-24 11:39:46

I used to pride myself on being able to read the DT through my own "filter" - ie knowing its bias but still enjoying some of the regulars.
Getting harder now and there's probably only Matt left for me! The trouble is that a paper can Cry Wolf only do often before people start ignoring it - viz the Mail, Express etc

Chocolatelovinggran Sat 10-Aug-24 11:37:37

Agree completely. The Telegraph has moved from a newspaper to a propaganda sheet.
Shame on them.

I used to read the Telegraph as it was a well-balanced paper but recently I have been shocked by the vitriol and lies it spews out. It has gone too right wing for me and is far from unbiased.

Lovetopaint037 Sat 10-Aug-24 11:29:51

Ps I was talking about the Telegraph.

Lovetopaint037 Sat 10-Aug-24 11:27:42

I always look at the Apple News on my iPad. I don’t pay a subscription so only see headlines. However, this morning I was offered comments which you could read in full. I was sickened by the bias and the way they have changed Starmer’s handling of the riots from positive and competent to the absolute opposite. I used to think the Mail was a rag but how have things changed ? I used to look for a reasonable and unbiased approach but now the opposite seems to be the case. We only buy the Times on Saturdays and read online and watch the BBC, ITV, channel 4 and Sky News in an attempt to get a rounded view of the daily happenings.
