Domestic violence is a huge issue & one that does merit a proactive rather than a reactive response on a case-by-case basis.I don't agree with the posters who link it to the closure of mental hospitals - these by & large are men killing their wives & partners & not men who would ever have been diagnosed with a MH condition justifying commital, even in the heyday of big mental institutions. There has been huge societal change and white British average-background males have seen their prerogatives eroded in the last 50 years. Is that a contributary factor to this? I know there's been huge change for everyone & change is the new status quo, but I contend it's harder for men because they had the priviledged niche & that has been taken away, & women now do have legal equal status, which is a plus for us although it brings added responsibilities & decisions, we do have more control over our own lives. Does this contribute to the anger? We have to recognise not just those men who kill. but many men (all those followers of AndrewTate for eg which my dad & uncles would never have been) feel angry & diminished, even though they might not be able to formulate why.

The other thing is if you talk to GN about the situation Onward I am sure they would let you name change if that would make you more comfortable.

Onward I didnt see the post, but if it's any reassurance, anytime there were threads relating to violence against women, prostitution, porn, etc on MN, some mens rights trolls would pop on to say something unpleasant. I guess that might be what happened here.

I think it's not helpful to be looking over our shoulder. This is anonymous site and my description is probably the same for many, many mothers and wives or girlfriends.

It is horrific to think that it is 2024. What the hell is wrong with men? It is all down to control. I was a battered wife with the first husband and looking back I do not know how he didn’t kill me at the time. I got away.

On the one hand everything I read about Tate has been done before Tate and will be done after Tate. There have always been abusers and misogynists. I have had the misfortune to live with some over the years.

On the other hand, finding out that my son follows Tate explains a lot about the abuse I've had in recent years, interspersed with him estranging me when he doesn't get his way.

I am afraid I think the influence of tate is overblown, I think ensuring the legal procedure is followed with regard to his alleged crimes would be the best way forward. I would say if young men are watching porn, listening to the demented 'sex work is work' etc etc then they are being influenced by as much if not more misogyny than listening to Tate. I think Tate is an easy fix that wont make much difference to violence against women. It's easier of course than looking at the prosecution rate of rape.

I worked with a lovely young man who followed him I hope my sons don't.
