Tesco oses legal battle over pay

Tescos wanted to fire and then rehire staff in order paying retention payments to some staff at distribution centres.

I had heard many years ago that IKEA were doing the same with some of their staff. Fire and re-hire at a lower rate.

I think that this is particularly shocking on the part of Tescos when the state is topping up the wages of the low paid staff.

It’s been like that for some time. Sometimes it’s dressed up as ‘restructuring’. Twice it’s happened to me and I wasn’t reselected to do my job. Others were recruited in time to fill the positions myself and others were made ‘redundant’ from. Employment law in this country is a joke. I’m glad Tesco has lost this case, perhaps there will be more protection for workers now.
