News and mental health

Well, the current state of the world is worrying at the moment. It is the person who isn't worried who is odd.

However, as there is absolutely nothing we can do about it, the best thing to do is get on with life aand, in the words of the bible
eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we may die

My husband likes an hour of TV after dinner, before final dog walk. I'll sit and read recipes or news on my computer. He's enjoying "The Old Man" (Jeff Bridges) - I keep my eyes averted. Much too violent for me.

We watch the news at 6 and the local news. Thank heavens for the mute button.
I read the I online and DH reads news online Sky and BBC and feeds back.
I sympathise with the fear it can create.
We like question and answer programs on radio or TV because they give us chance to see what other people think and respect the fact that they have different points of view, even if I don’t agree. I just dislike it when they talk over each other. That’s not showing respect at all and reflects badly on them.

I am very selective but also watch a variety of channels. GB news usually gets about one minute due to it being tripe.

A lot of people don't realise that the media are doing the job, which is to whip up as much anxiety and insecurity in the populace as possible.

We don't need to engage, but we do need to be informed.

When people begin to express hysterical reactions to what they've seen on the news I often saw, 'I didn't see that so have no idea what you're talking about.'

We have very short memories- what we stressed about last week is no longer 'news.'

The world has always been a violent and nasty place but now we have the technology that makes us think it hasn't.

I suspect that will be even worse than Any Answers . I really wish they'd get a better chairperson - someone who can point out when people are talking nonsense and stop the panel talking over one another.

I’ve become increasingly anxious about the news such as bbc and sky. It causes me real fear of the consequences in Ukraine/ Isreal etc. so I’m going to try to stop listening and reading the news to see if this helps. Wondered if anyone else feels similar?

I read serious news.

TV new I only listen, typically not viewing. I don't prefer to view any violence - and I never know what will pop up on the screen.

I have largely stepped back from news, for maybe different reasons.

It is amazing how much simpler things seem to be without it.

I've always been interested in the News and followed it avidly, but lately I stick to the political discussions and skim the global stuff for that reason. We have limited control over what happens here, by way of voting rights, but none at all over what happens in the rest of the world and at times it's too scary to contemplate.

Even the UK News is so partial and biased these days that I find listening to that is increasingly pointless, too. Not so much the News programmes themselves, but the general media, online and things like Any Questions (Any Answers is making me want to throw things at the radio ).

I sometimes think we are on a precipice just now. Rushing headlong into a disaster . What can we do ? Not a lot, sadly except live our lives out best we can.These days I don’t believe a word the politicians and newspapers say, they all seem to have their own agendas.
