I’m not surprised, he’s always, from TV anyway, seemed slightly ‘off’ to me

GrannyGravy13 Sat 14-Sept-24 08:25:11

I have always admired him.

He was upfront about not being able to read until he was 51, he has worked hard to get adults into reading and writing and to get over the stigma of being illiterate.

There is no smoke without fire.

Wow! I would never want to be on trial with you on the Jury!

BlueBelle Sat 14-Sept-24 07:59:04

Good grief There is no smoke without fire Tell that to the recently realeased men who have spent years imprisoned for crimes they didn’t commit BigBopper

Well guilty or innocent he’s been tried and convicted on GN
I ve never watched the man so have no thoughts on the subject
but to all those saying he was too this and too that, I need to say abusers of any kind are not ‘this’ or ‘that’ you cannot pick an abuser out because they come across as big headed, over bearing, know it all Abusers very often seem ok people to the average person indeed often ‘pillars of the community’ not everyone who seems to know it all or are strident in their views is an abuser, it just shows ignorance to say ‘oh I never liked him’ ‘ a bit of a poseur’ ‘Jumped up little ..’
What a judgemental thread

AskAlice According to Wiki he was born in Brent but grew up in Hackney.

Yet another "cosy" BBC show hit by potential scandal.

Bridie22 Sat 14-Sept-24 07:52:45

He didn't fall from grace, he picked his own downfall by being a coercive, manipulate and abusive person, he thought he was above being caught like many others.

eddiecat78 Sat 14-Sept-24 07:38:27

Some of you really do relish seeing someone fall from grace! Especially if you can claim that you always knew they were dodgy.

I don't know why we bother with court cases, the arena of trial by popular opinion should always suffice.

It’s not just a case of someone pointing a finger though. If it were I would agree. Before a case like this can get to court there has to be a lot of evidence, and before the BBC reports on it and suspends a high profile presenter they will know the accusations are true.

The Strictly Dancer was completely innocent and his partner was mentally ill because she had been divorced some years before, according to GransNet ladies who love Strictly

After all the Huw Edwards business, it seems the BBC are keen to be seen to be acting promptly to inform us of anything ‘untoward’ with its presenters, first that ex footballer on the One Show, and now this.

Yes, I think this is the case, too.

I also think that they (the BBC) will have enough information to know the likely outcome. They won't sacrifice a popular employee for the sake of it.

If they report on one of their own being dodgy, it almost certainly means they are.

I think that it's generally accepted that people are innocent until proven guilty.

Not on here, obviously.

Nightsky2 Fri 13-Sept-24 21:32:26

Always a bit of a poseur I thought.

Fartooold Fri 13-Sept-24 21:08:34

I loved him, shows how gullible I am!

What will Judi Dench say?

I imagine Judi has made a lot of money on the back of the programme made with Blades, and he probs isn’t the first bad egg she has worked with during her long career, as a professional she will obvs make no comment.

Correction - but all my friends and family loved him

Babs03 Fri 13-Sept-24 19:52:33

Oh how I wish it was possible to tell from looking at a man whether he is a nasty piece of work. Unfortunately it really isn’t. My first husband who I was thankfully only married to for just over a year was abusive physically and mentally but all my friends did and family loved him, he could charm the birds from the trees.

Fartooold Fri 13-Sept-24 19:48:24

I am fairly sure Jay Blades came from Hackney which is E8

This story was the opening headline item on the evening news. Good grief. All that’s going on around the world and this is the top story. If he’s found guilty I hope he’s suitably punished and removed from our tv screens. But was it really necessary to show a compilation of his tv appearances taking up the first couple of mins of the evening news? 🙄

Sparklefizz Fri 13-Sept-24 17:59:59

I said on a previous thread about him that he never seemed genuine to me and I stand by that whatever the outcome of this charge.

AskAlice Fri 13-Sept-24 17:48:42

Rosie51 - what you said.

I don't know the man, nor do any of the previous posters (I'm assuming here) but the only thing I find annoying about him personally is constantly stating that he comes from the East End of London, when he quite clearly came from the North of London - but that's just an irritation, not an accusation of being off or jumped up!

I do think that someone with his chaotic, sad home-life and history in personal relationships will be carrying a lot of baggage though and maybe it's not that surprising if something's gone badly wrong.

The jury in this case will hear details which we'll never know about and I hope, like Rosie that they will be able to consider the facts and evidence without prejudice.

Goodness! Have you all got him convicted without hearing one sentence of evidence? I don't know whether he's guilty or not, but hope the jury serve on it with less preconceptions. The oath jurors take does include the words "I will faithfully try the defendant and give a true verdict according to the evidence" not "I always knew/suspected"

His lovely wife didn’t leave the marital in a hurry with just a suitcase because he looked at her the wrong way 🤷‍♀️
