How ironic - some HMRC staff essentially committing fraud.
US troops forced to act on the ground?
A drop in the ocean in the great schemes of things....but replicated by how many more

I hadn't heard of what babs said re Netanyahu originally working with Hamas, and checked it out with the Times of Israel, a centrist newspaper.
"For years, Netanyahu propped up Hamas. Now it’s blown up in our faces
The premier’s policy of treating the terror group as a partner, at the expense of Abbas and Palestinian statehood, has resulted in wounds that will take Israel years to heal from"

That’s Putin mickeysmiles and it could well happen.

Why is he still actively expanding into the West Bank if he wants peace?
Good question.
Also it might surprise some to know that Netanyahu orginally wanted Hamas to be in power and lobbied the Knesset to push for this to the point of funding Hamas so that Gaza and the West Bank would be split and unable to unite against Israel.
The thing is we all know that politics is rank and that many political leaders/governments are pushing their own nefarious agendas, including the US and 'yes' even our own government. So why is it so hard to believe that Netanyahu is pushing his own nefarious agenda and has been for decades.
Indeed many Israelis hate him and want to see him in jail.
He thought hamas would be the lesser of two evils but was proved wrong on that. It’s no good bringing history into what’s happening today tho as it solves nothing. He is right wing but not so much as some in government.
Whoever was in charge right now would have to be similarly hawkish after what happened last October and what Lebanon have been doing ever since.
Iran is the bogeyman Netanyahu hides behind. He is landgrabbing and sick on the power he yields.
He doesn't care about anyone except himself. He uses religion to bolst up his power base, as does Trump, as does the Iranian theocracy, as also does Putin- see a pattern here?

It’s hamas and Hezbollah who don’t value human life.
Also there are around 200,000 displaced Israelis now in the north of the country near the border with Lebanon.
He hasn’t gone beyond defence at all but needs to show that Israel won’t just lie down under the constant barrage of rockets and there will be consequences.
It’s no good going back in history, lives have to be lived now and circumstances change.Backing Lebanon means backing hezbollah and Iran.
He knows that his political career ( and probably his freedom too) will be over once hostilities cease, therefore peace is not on his agenda.
Yes Fleurpepper, I fear that, if it comes to it, Netanyahu would take us all down with him. His actions in Gaza have demonstrated how little he values human life.
As regards the O/P, I agree, he has gone beyond defence and is engaged in drawing in international forces towards war.
Many Israeli's have substantial and deep doubts. I sometimes follow Haaretz (a bit like the Guardian in terms of viewpoint?)

The answer to the question is yes. He doesn't care about anyone but himself, everything he does is for him. He does it in the name of Israel. Thats not true. He is power mad, does he think he is God? It will come back on him

Some of us have been warning from the start, that he was dangerous, very dangerous. We were called 'antisemites' and worse.
Will he?
As soon as the west led by the US gave Bibi a green light to do as he pleased I knew this would happen. Now is squeaky bum time in the west with leaders increasingly worried that this is going to be world war 3. Already the US is deploying more troops.
Is very scary.
Of course Iran is agitating. But then we all knew it should have known this would happen. Is nearly 50,000 now dead in Gaza, clearly most have stopped counting. And whatever evil Hamas and Hezbollah have launched at Israel the IDF have responded to with Armageddon.
But in all of this we should not lose sight of context. Context is everything. Fact is Israel has broken more international laws than any other country, not just now but over many decades, countless Palestinians have had their land and their homes stolen from them, even now in the West Bank it is happening. And this isn’t the first time Israel has thrown its military might at Gaza or Lebanon.
Right now Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas are the enemy but decades ago they were not a threat yet Israel was still oppressing and attacking Gaza as well as committing war crimes in Lebanon in the 1980s, look up the massacre at Sabra and Shatila.
If we keep looking at Israel as the victim and not the aggressor in this conflict we are part of the problem. For nearly half a century Israel has played the victim card whilst oppressing, persecuting, and killing Palestinians as well as grabbing their land.
Is Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas fighting back now but in ten years there will be another enemy rising from the ashes and twenty years later another. Because human beings don’t respond well to being dehumanised and ethnically cleansed.
I think he will, in combination with Iran & possibly other countries backing Israel.
I absolutely pray for an agreed ceasefire.
I would say it will be Iran that will take us down.
