So much antisemitism, how can Jews feel safe anywhere

Antisemitism is a terrible thing and should be rooted out everywhere as it has been in the Labour Party. The same goes for Islamophobia and is an awful lot of that about atm. Or indeed any kind of racism.
But being against the politics of a particular country is completely different.
I have attended a march calling for a ceasefire in London. Lots of families from every walk of life attended including a group called ‘Jews against war’ who were singing and chatting with many others.
I will also mark the anniversary of the deaths of innocent Israelis on Oct 7th.
Because a person can be against continued killing in Gaza and Lebanon and be against Hamas and Hezbollah as well, it isn’t a case if ‘either/or’.

Absolutely.

It's not easy being Jewish

This has been happening world wide.

Its already reported - there was also a counter-demonstration in London today, some holding Israeli flags.

I doubt that people carrying placards reading "I love Hezbollah" are remotely interested in demonstrating any respect.

It will be interesting to see how many arrests involving genuine participants are made at the memorial event.

Any one else lighting a candle on their window sill on the 7th? Not for any particular ‘side’ but just to pause and remember all those who have died, been bereaved or even just been affected by the conflicts.

I read that they initially intended to m
arch next Saturday the holiest of the Jewish religious holidays

theworriedwell Sat 05-Oct-24 17:27:09

How many more will die in those 2 days?

AGAA4 Sat 05-Oct-24 17:00:22

Having the Palestinian march so near to the seventh could provoke trouble so has been ill advised.

Oreo Sat 05-Oct-24 16:42:31

If the pro Palestinian marchers could have organised it for Monday you can bet your boots they would’ve in my view.
What’s Khan thinking of allowing this?🧐

Smileless2012 Sat 05-Oct-24 16:29:14

At least the march isn't on the actual anniversary of the massacre my thoughts too valdavi.

Allira Sat 05-Oct-24 16:26:52

Yes, it would have been better to wait a week but I doubt that the timing was accidental.

AGAA4 Sat 05-Oct-24 16:22:42

It's always innocent people, children who die or are maimed in these conflicts. It's very sad and nobody wins.

Anniebach Sat 05-Oct-24 16:05:33

If you had loved ones still held hostage since October 7th

Cossy Sat 05-Oct-24 15:41:26

I’m just terribly sad that this awful event and subsequent war still continues.

No way do I support Hamas, but these ongoing deaths of innocents from every side is tragic

Wyllow3 Sat 05-Oct-24 15:33:01

Early photos include a lot of Lebanon references.

Just FYI:

A memorial event on Sunday has been organised by Jewish groups to mark the anniversary of 7 October attack on Israel.

Thank you, Willow3

I guess though that there is ongoing killing happening. If you have relatives out there, waiting can't be an easy option. At least the march isn't on the actual anniversary of the massacre.

It certainly would have been more respectful, maddyfour

maddyfour Sat 05-Oct-24 14:31:25

In two days time it will be the anniversary of the Israeli massacre where around 1200 people were murdered and around 300 people were taken hostage.
Today there is a big pro Palestine march him London. Would it have been more respectful and appropriate to have waited till next week or later in the month for this march to take place, especially since the first bombing of Gaza started on 13/10/23 and Israeli troops first entered Gaza on 27/10/23.
