In two days time it will be the anniversary of the Israeli massacre where around 1200 people were murdered and around 300 people were taken hostage.
Today there is a big pro Palestine march him London. Would it have been more respectful and appropriate to have waited till next week or later in the month for this march to take place, especially since the first bombing of Gaza started on 13/10/23 and Israeli troops first entered Gaza on 27/10/23.

Fantasy land Kalm but at least gave me a laugh.

Yes NI is a good analogy. The unionists were basically removed of their powers and privileges and they became disunited. Republicans felt that they would be greatly empowered e.g. removal of travel restriction with the south and the two referendums. A meaningful output being is that a democratic mandate that would mean a united ireland. All parties with sen mitchell as a neutral arbiter were told in no uncertain terms to lay down their arms. It was always muted that EU membership would help as far back as 2005. With Brexit there is now unhindered travel and the armed conflict is virtually gone. So let the people of gaza and west bank democratically decide whether they continue to be ruled by Israel. Simultaneously The IDF should be removed and replaced by a neutral international force excluding the UK/USA as the Palestinians won’t trust them. A force comprising eg Ireland, Spain, indonesia Malaysia would govern temporarily. All Palestinian prisoners as well as any Israelis should be released. Masjid e aqsa to be controlled by muslims to enable worship but would allow non muslims except IDF for all religions.
All the those murdered in Gaza would need reparations for the next 3 generations, so the intergenerational animosity is removed.

Neither have Muslims. Islam is a peaceful religion. Never forget the illegal wars in iraq and Afghanistan

Hamas is a peaceful organization, that had nothing to do with the attack on Israel last year Sinwar didn’t plan it it’s all lies!

Anything which happens to the hostages is the result of their
kidnappers Hamas

Babs03 Sun 27-Oct-24 17:50:22

@foxie and if the hostages are in northern Gaza which is more than likely God help them in this latest onslaught.
If Netanyahu really cared he would have negotiated in the beginning when Qatar was attempting to meditate, instead he simply forged ahead with a genocide that needn’t have happened and Qatar washed their hands of him.
Anything that happens to the hostages as a result of The General’s Plan is on Netanyahu not Hamas.

Hamas are an elected party. We have seen video of people in
Gaza celebrating when a dead female hostage driven through the streets. Hamas run the. hospitals Gaza, many doctors from
Gaza have spoken of attacks by Israel.

fwiw Gerry Adams was leader of Sinn Fein from 1983 - 2018, the NI peace agreement was 1998. Sorry but I think it's nonsense to say you can't deal with terrorists, I can think of many countries where that has happened, South Africa, Kenya etc etc.
109 hostages were released in August following negotiations and a temporary cease fire. how many have been released by the IDF actions? I think it's 8!

Anniebach Sun 27-Oct-24 16:28:05

Yes, but they are an elected party

Allira Sun 27-Oct-24 16:24:36

Yes Hamas are elected , easy to forget isn’t it

It was so long ago.

Hamas were elected as a political party and don’t forget that Sinn Fein were the political front for the IRA until after the GFA.
People have sat down with those they despise and see as murderers in order to achieve peace for their people. And of course in order for hostages to be released.

Anniebach Sun 27-Oct-24 15:46:29

Hamas sitting with elected leaders ! Such is the power of terrorists .

Wyllow3 Sun 27-Oct-24 15:38:53

Well, just lets say, whichever regime currently holds power.

Hamas negotiate ?
If they don’t Annie how will they get the hostages back or try to negotiate a peaceful settlement for all. At some point they have to get round a negotiating table, just as the British government had to do with Sinn Fein and the Loyalists. What other options are there?

Sinn Fein a political party, please name the Hamas political party,

Babs03 Sun 27-Oct-24 15:18:13

And I agree Wyllow, Israel should be a safe homeland for Jewish people but also a safe homeland for Palestinians. One people should not force the others out.

Babs03 Sun 27-Oct-24 15:16:09

Wyllow3

Hamas and the current regime in Israel have both at different times been prepared to negotiate but under terms the other side will not accept.

I can't see it happening if the current Israeli regime continues to force civilians in Northern Gaza - nearly a third of this small region - to move south leaving behind everything they know, their homes, businesses, their ill and elderly (well, whats left of them).

I really do believe in the right of Israel to be a home for Jewish people, I've always said that, but many events of the last year have made me wonder now if taking over the whole of Palestine isn't the real aim of the current regime. Leaving Gaza aside for the moment, their continuing expansion into the West Bank seems to point that way.

If Netanyahu’s concern was for the hostages he would have tried to negotiate rather than seeking to displace 40,000 people from Northern Gaza in order to lay siege to Hamas but also those too old or ill to leave etc.,in order to land grab Northern Gaza for Israel. These are not the actions if a man who gives a flying toss about the hostages.
There are supposed to be peace talks in Cairo next week and Hamas had agreed to go, now who knows???

foxie48 Sun 27-Oct-24 14:28:15

The only way of getting the hostages back is by negotiation and a ceasefire. The relatives of those still left in captivity know that and so do the Israeli people. However, for some their deaths are an acceptable price to pay for the opportunity for expansion of settlements into Gaza. In absolutely no way am I condoning the dreadful attack on 7/10 nor am I supporting Hamas. I am being a realist. If they want the hostages back (dead or alive) they have to negotiate with Hamas

Babs03 Sun 27-Oct-24 11:04:40

Correction - a people being happy to take whatever crumbs Israel throws them.
