Anniversary of Israeli massacre

In two days time it will be the anniversary of the Israeli massacre where around 1200 people were murdered and around 300 people were taken hostage.
Today there is a big pro Palestine march him London. Would it have been more respectful and appropriate to have waited till next week or later in the month for this march to take place, especially since the first bombing of Gaza started on 13/10/23 and Israeli troops first entered Gaza on 27/10/23.

I do try to see things from Israel press and reports, and not just Palestinian sympathetic feeds and I aim to see as much as possible from both sides as it were, but of course it’s unrealistic to be completely neutral.

I personally try to be aware of intrinsic bias and not merely seek out information which confirms any preconceptions.

Whoops! I earlier posted on wrong thread.

Have you actually watched the video Oreo? It is possible that this footage may be investigated by ICC as evidence of war crimes. It is dehumanising for the victims but also the perpetrators and can never be acceptable.
I am from an army family btw.

No, I try not to watch anything much on TikTok only amusing things.
I have agreed that anything that was done wrongly needs investigating.

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 16:22:17

The denial and total refusal to look at the evidence is just staggering and frightening too, Farzanah.

Apologies, sincerely, mistaken identity. Sorry.

😃
I thought for a min that maybe Dad wasn’t really a tailor but had led a secret SAS life.

Many wrong things are done in war situations sadly. Not all soldiers are honourable.

And that makes it right? Surely as someone from an army background, you should be the first to want to totally disapprove and say loud and clear that it is absolutely wrong.

Excuse me? I’m not from an Army background.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 14:23:54

No it shouldn’t in my view.It does happen in any war by any side and if they’d had mobiles in the past they’d have used them. If they can be identified then they should find them and punish them.

This is definitely also true oreo. But should it be tolerated by IDF leaders?

Wyllow3 Wed 06-Nov-24 14:13:16

It's true, Oreo, a lot of it is really, really sick.
That what they do, they feel is not just OK, but boasting - it doesn't seem to occur to them it reflects badly on their own country.

That is not the issue Oreo- it is what they are doing and sharing, that is sick.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 14:03:10

It’s wrong of course, but it’s their age, sharing anything at all online.

Has anyone actually seen the video of tik tok postings from some IDF troops? If so is it possible to defend it? I found it truly shocking.

That’s TikTok for you once you enter that portal, apart from amusing animals then anything goes.
I imagine that our own soldiers and also police send all sorts of stuff to SM platforms and each other. Some have been sacked for doing it.

Farzanah Wed 06-Nov-24 13:58:27

Investigating war crimes in Gaza. Al Jazeera Investigations
You tube.

Be warned this is in no way amusing, but is upsetting in the extreme.

They are shocking. I think it's possible to oppose Hamas and what they stand for, but also accept that some young IDF soldiers' behavior is far from acceptable.

Just as it's possible to say, yes, Hamas did need to be defeated but it's now wrong to withhold UNRWA aid in Northern Gaza. People are starving and have little or no medical support.

Supporting Israels' right to exist does not mean agreeing with everything Netanyahu/current regime does. I dont think we'll have peace without compromise and "middle ways'.

Anniebach Wed 06-Nov-24 13:40:51

I look at TikTok, the talking dogs are rather amusing

madalene Wed 06-Nov-24 13:36:09

tik tok

Are you joking?
Why ever would anyone watch tik tok?
It’s not exactly a go to for information platform is it?
I don’t have tik tok.

Good comment Oreo.

Hamas most definitely kill children deliberately. That’s exactly what they did on 07/01/23 and it’s what they do when they place their Headquarters under hospitals and schools.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 10:22:52

Who deliberately kills children, I’ll tell you who it’s hamas
The IDF do not deliberately do it, it’s what happens in conflicts and is awful but what accidentally happens.
Every day to me is a day of remembrance both for the deliberately murdered families and young people in Israel and the innocent people in Gaza caught up in the aftermath of it.
That doesn’t mean to change the remembrance of the war dead from the two wars with Germany.

Kalm Tue 05-Nov-24 21:52:25

I think a Nuremberg style trial for the entire cabinet and IDF would be appropriate. I mean who deliberately kills children on multiple occasions and OK if you have to kill why vaporise them and not allow bodies for ritual burials. Oxfam has a done an excellent report on the suffering in Gaza. Agnes Callamard of Amnesty has eluded to this in specific detail. May be we should have a day of remembrance for Gaza.

Netanyahu has fired Gallant - immediate demonstrations:

"The sacking has already prompted protests on the streets of Tel Aviv and political opposition leaders have called for wider public demonstrations.

Netanyahu and Gallant have long had a divisive working relationship, and over the past year there have been reports of shouting matches between the two men over Israel’s war strategy.

Gallant has said a hostage release deal with Hamas should be prioritised ahead of continuing the war in Gaza, a position rejected by the PM."

Its a move towards not only a harder line but also Gallant is against the changes Netanyahu wants that takes power away from the judiciary.

Actually you have no idea who will be seen as the most malevolent in the future. It is rarely who we think it will be. Otherwise those in the past wouldnt get things wrong.
