She really is targeting pensioners- WFA was obviously just the start .
Yes , I agree the welfare state needs a shake up a huge one . Which means ā€œ Yesā€ reset prescription charges in line with pension age . That makes sense , why would you reach 60 & get foc prescriptions , when retirement age is not aged 60?
Now there is mention of tax on taking money from your pension pot !
Can’t wait to hear what’s next on her easy to hit pension list !
I personally think she should be looking at long term dole dossses & while families who rely solely on benefits!
Oh maybe I’m just being cynical 🤨

ā€œLong term dole dossesā€, as you so delightfully describe people on benefits, ARE being looked at, it’s just far more popular it seems to have ā€œclick-bait headlines.

You don’t have too long to wait for the actual budget, where it’ll be in black and white whatever action is being taken, much better than relying on rumours and getting into a lather before things are actually announced.

I never understood why prescriptions are free at 60.
Why?

I too am not sure why the prescription charges weren’t altered in line with all pension changes, it didn’t make sense.

I’m simply going to wait for the budget now before making any judgements.

I’m not totally impressed thus far, but feel I still need to give this govt a fair chance and it would actually be good to hear some of the positives being out in place.

It used to make me mad that a friend who left over £1m in cash when he died, plus two houses paid for, used for several years to stockpile literally dozens of free prescription items - I once counted 60 in his bathroom - and more than once, virtually all of them were thrown away.

The thing was, he was extremely tight with money (except for anything he wanted for himself*) so if he’d had to pay even say Ā£3 per item, I’m quite sure he’d never have taken so many that he didn’t need.

*Some months before he died, he asked dh to go through with him his ā€˜collection’ of coats and jackets. There were over 40, all expensive, several unworn, with the labels still attached. Dh did manage to persuade him to let maybe 20 go to the charity shop….

You're right GG13, all over the news.

šŸ˜‚ here we go, "rumour has it".....

"I've heard that"

"I read that"

Rumour has it, bus passes will be next.

The transport secretary stated on the news Monday morning that bus passes will stay whilst she is the minister.

Where is there mention of tax on taking money from your pension pot? Reference please.

This post is really no different from the summer of accusations and speculation/scsremongering repeated at least 20 times....

I'd heard there wasn't to be any increase in tax on pensions.
