No. The language around these things is so important, IMO. The very fact that there is special vocabulary to describe hitting children speaks for itself.
If the same terms were applied to hitting vulnerable old people who were irritating younger ones, refusing to do as they were told, expressing annoyance or frustration because their bodies were unable to do what their minds wanted them to do, there would be an outcry. What’s the difference? Hitting is wrong, and hitting those who are weaker than you is worse.
