Three people have been arrested in connection with Liam's death including a hotel worker; abandonment of a person followed by death and facilitation of narcotics.

Liam Payne has spoken many times about his mental health and how dealing with the fame of one direction meant that his mental health spiralled downwards and he became suicidal many times. He has told of being locked in his hotel room on his own after concerts for his protection from fans and how he began to use alcohol and drugs to deal with his feelings.

Has anyone seen an autopsy yet of how he died. Thankyou.

No you haven't annoyed anyone. I pointed out the other thread in case you were any posts which might interest you.

I don't think you annoyed anyone hamster58 because this is an important conversation we need to be having. Taking LP's personal problems out of the equation, the pressures on young people in the showbiz/music industry are phenomenal. Personally I would rather pull them out of it the minute they faltered, but I'm not an expert as to how you recognise this. Some seem to cope admirably.

Petra, no I haven’t, although I gathered from the initial report that the hotel manager suggested this. I suppose this is what I mean, ie was he affected by substance and fell or do we know he was struggling so took substances and this was the result. I feel the latter is much more sad than an accident caused by someone taking something which they would surely know could lead to dangerous behaviour.

Hamster
Have you seen the videos of that night? He was off his face.

Sorry if I annoyed anyone by starting this thread when another existed. I suppose what I was trying to establish in my head was a chicken and egg situation. Did he take the drugs because he was mentally struggling or did he take them because many young people-especially those with money-can do. We know that drugs can mess with our minds, so that’s why I wonder if he fell simply because he was drugged or drunk, or whether he was mentally damaged and intended to end his life. I’m sorry if some think this question irrelevant or offensive

* Sorry, I meant my inclination, not inkling.

Yes Petra, and I guess hiding your addiction makes it all the more difficult to get help.

Escaped
By his own admission he was very good at hiding his addictions.
Nothing changes. In the 60s my sister was PA to a record producer at Decca records. I went to many social events held at their London office where I mingled with a lot of stars of the day.
Young people of both sexes taken advantage of.

I think I understand what you are saying ,Galaxy*.
If, and we don't actually know this, he became an addict at 16 years when 1D was formed, then the manager, had a duty to either remove him from the band or allow him to continue, offering professional support for his problem.
I don't know how I would handle these situationbecause I am no expert. My inkling would be to drop him/her early on, because my fear would be that things could get far worse for him/her.

Galaxy Wed 30-Oct-24 11:23:38

He was 14 when he first tried out for X factor. Many children cant cope with fame, I suppose it depends whether we accept that that is the case and dont do anything about it.

Just before he died I’d been reading about Lena Zaffaroni (sp). I hadn’t realised that she’s struggled with stardom and died quite young.

She died of an eating disorder- we actually knew the family, she went to down to London aged 11. She was a lovely girl 😔

Alcohol can be an addiction too.

I'm well aware of that.

An addict at 16? Really? Where did you get that information from?

He himself has said so. He could not cope with sudden fame at a young age.
He did go into rehab last year but relapsed.

Very sad.

I read one article which said he started drinking to cope with sudden fame at such a young age, but didn't see anything about drugs.

keepingquiet Wed 30-Oct-24 10:26:05

There is a moral here, that young people chasing fame should be made aware of the pitfalls- there are enough examples of what having to be 'perfect' and fit into the demands of a very greedy industry can do to people.

Sad indeed.

Yes hamster58 - I did read that he wanted to get married. Poor lad, too young to die

Hamster
Liam Payne was an addict from the age of 16. That night he went too far. Plus the fact he probably didn’t know the people supplying the drugs. There could have been anything in them.

ferry23 Wed 30-Oct-24 09:55:43

As Kate has said, this has already been discussed in length on a thread started immediately after his death.

Kate1949 Wed 30-Oct-24 09:49:01

There is a thread about Liam under Chat.

Everyone, please correct me if I have this very wrong. The death of Liam was a shocking and terribly sad thing to happen. My thoughts instantly were and still are for his immediate family, son and girlfriend. However most things I have read quoted by other celebs imply he took his own life-articles talk about more care needed for young people suddenly finding fame. The details of his death however (to me) suggest he was taking drink and drugs and perhaps fell as a result. Nowhere have I read confirmation that he was suffering mentally and that was why he turned to these substances. In fact I’m sure I did read he told his girlfriend shortly before his death that he wanted to marry her. Surely this would confirm he didn’t plan to die and that he simply used the substances and it was those that caused him to fall, rather than feeling mentally destroyed then taking them to end his life. What do others think or have gleaned?
