About Donald Trump.

They have both tried to cover up this morning by saying they are looking forward to meeting him and working with him.

What absolute creeps!

Iam64 Thu 07-Nov-24 08:25:41

I’m sure you’re right DiamondLily, Kemi B isn’t reading the room. Trump isn’t popular with the majority here, no matter which way they lean politically.
As for accusations of hypocrisy. Don’t be silly. We may not like it but Trump is the Potus and our politicians, business leaders etc will diplomatically work to establish positive working relationships. As much as that’s possible with a personality like Trump

DiamondLily Thu 07-Nov-24 08:21:56

I don’t like Lammy, but polls out suggest only 18% of British people think Trump winning was good.

So, Badenoch seems more out of touch with voters, of all parties, than anyone else is.🤷‍♀️

LizzieDrip Thu 07-Nov-24 08:17:36

Agreed David. And now we’re no longer part of the EU, we really are a very tiny fish in an enormous, dangerous pond!

David49 Thu 07-Nov-24 08:10:52

Lammy would have to try hard to be a worse Foreign secretary the Johnson.
Trump has no great love for the UK or Europe, so we’re not going to get any favors from him, many countries are more important than the UK.

Starmer is so out of his depth as PM, but I am very surprised he has not sacked Lammy!

eazybee Thu 07-Nov-24 07:03:31

Kemi Badenoch is putting what is best for the country first, unlike Labour who are very conspicuously putting what they consider appeases their party first.
I thought the title of this thread referred to Mrs, Badenoch demanding an apology for the tweet Dawn Butler forwarded, but wisely, she concentrated on repairing international relationships.

I can’t get my head around them choosing Lammy with that mouth on him as a foreign minister. What on earth were they thinking? Have they no sense at all ? I shudder to think of him trying to deal with Trump.

Are you not aware of Badenoch's 'mouth'?

The only difference is that you agree with what comes out of one mouth but not the other.

Never heard her, never seen her. I’ll reserve judgement until I have.

Badenoch accused the government of not mentioning defence spending in the budget. It did. 5 times. She criticises others for dragging up old tweets, yet dragged up something from 6 years ago to criticise Lammy. She accused Starmer of reading from a script whilst - reading from a script. So far so hypocritical.

She is just what the House of Commons needed...she's a breath of fresh air. So forthright and articulate. Starmer seems so insipid beside her.

The kind of petty adversarial politics demonstrated during PMQs and many other debates (when more than a handful of MPs actually turn up) are point scoring juvenile nonsense. Our parliamentary system would benefit from more listening and less screeching, stomping and shouting. The behaviour during the budget was a particular low. This is not debate, it is not adult and it should not be acceptable.

Wyllow3 Thu 07-Nov-24 00:19:00

It would be strange if they didn't, in fact attract a good deal more criticism.

henetha Wed 06-Nov-24 23:53:22

Totally right, Allira. These congratulatory messages to newly elected leaders have always been done.
Nothing new here.

Allira Wed 06-Nov-24 23:27:42

He has to.
It's called diplomacy.

It could have been worded more carefully, perhaps.

Kalm Wed 06-Nov-24 23:25:19

So Keir Starmer is the PM and former director of public prosecutions whose job it was to ensure justice was seen to be done. No one is above the law (as we are told in liberal democracies). Yet he was congratulating Trump, Why ? A convicted felon, rapist, anti democratic revolutionary, alleged fraudster, all round bad guy. Why ? any respect for him and Lamy and most politicians now disappeared for me. Although I don't like Lamy for his support for genocide he should not be apologise to a vicious question from Kemi.

I am afraid Badenoch behaved ridiculously.

I'd say not ridiculously, but very, very heavily obviously "scripted" with others. (yes, I did watch the whole of PMQ's)

but a confident performance as expected:

From memory:

As in: attack Lammy, a challenge to bring up that Trump should be invited to speak in parliament,

Conservative MP 1 asks about WFA, Conservative MP 2 asks about Farmers:

attack Labour Defence spending, attack KS for reading from notes....

KS avoided the Lammy question tho she tried to push it twice:
KS answered the standard ones from MP's,

she got tripped up a couple of times, KS caught her out in defence spending and the reading from notes thing......

I gave it a One all Draw on another thread.

There was a very good question on Mental Health provision from I think an NI MP, and the perhaps the most moving moment was that clear point when it came clear the whole house supported the Ukraine - and no doubt all had on their minds the possibility that Trump might pull out of support.

Badenoch tweeted "We should not be legislating for hurt feelings".

Why is she now so keen to make people apologise for hurting Trump's feelings?

I think it was rather the dangers of angering the President of the US than hurt feelings as such, y’know diplomacy and all that.

So she thinks we should all be tugging our forelocks where Trump is concerned?

What happened to free speech and saying it "as it is"?

I thought that she made herself look foolish. It's politics.

She's ridiculous.

Why because she is right. Lammy especially is a diplomatic disaster. A bigot too.

Why not - state your opinion about somebody on a thread that’s about people not stating their opinions about other people.

I was struck by Kemi accusing Starmer from reading from promot notes when it was obvious she was doing exactly that, m
