The Guardian is offering counselling to staff as it vowed to support its workforce after Donald Trump’s “upsetting” US election victory this week.
In an email to staff, The Guardian’s editor Katharine Viner said the election had “exposed alarming fault lines on many fronts” and urged journalists based in the UK to contact colleagues in the US “to offer your support”.
I’m glad I don’t give The Guardian any of my money if they waste it to coddle employees in this way!
@WellsRose
But that’s not what we’re talking about here.
Babs 👏👏👏

Students at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy were reportedly told this week that they could play with Lego, colouring books, and have milk and cookies in “self-care suites” following the result.
Jeepers.
If it's true so what? Is it worse than storming the capital and killing or injuring police officers.
I hope to God nothing bad happens to journalists in America as a result of them doing their job and speaking truth to power.
Would you still be ‘sniggering’ then M0nica.
I’m having trouble getting my head round some of the heartless comments on this thread. I suppose that’ll be because I’m part of the tofu eating wokeraty!
And I was giving out on what was in the News about the Guardian and its staff. It’s in the newspapers today. It’s nothing personal. Others make it so.
Nobody is trying to shut down opinions. We are giving our own opinions. Why do you have a problem people coming on here that have opposing views? The thread was stared because the op wanted to sneer about people who are really upset about Trump getting and I'm giving you a reason why sexual assault victims are upset.
M0nica 👏👏👏

First post on this thread, so I am sticking to the OP.
All I can say is for fearless journalists meant to be seeking the truth no matter where it is and how difficult it is. This really is ridiculous. The Guardian prints stories (as do othe papers), where journalists take enormous risks to get to the truth, many endure threats to their lives and families
Yet The Guardian is telling us that they are all little diddums that cannot cope with winning the election and despit mummy's reminders they left their handkerchieves at home.
Oh, dear, so next time I read about their fearless journalist's risking their lives for a story, I will just end up sniggering.
Anyway the election was tight, but it has been clear for the past week at least, may be 2, that Trump was the most probable winner. We survived his last 4 year term, I am sure we can survive another.

You’re welcome WellsRose.
Sometimes comments by some posters on GN make my heart sink.
Sometimes comments make my heart sink too tho not for your reasons.More that some comments are trying to make a thread about themselves rather than the OP message or trying to shut down opinions they don’t like or riding high horses.
This thread is about The Guardian.

Inflammatory and out of order
Which comment is inflammatory?
You know this really yet you post it
What does this mean?
I hope GNHQ are monitoring this thread
Yes, I hope they are too.
That is about my comment Lizzie.
And even if it is deleted I stand by it.
After Trump said that immigrants eat people’s pets.
My OH was an immigrant over 50 years ago, and has faced racism and hatred over the years. So they can go ahead and report me. I won’t take it back.
Well they will only be monitoring if someone has reported it.
spottybook
Nobody offered me counselling when labour got in
That has to be the best one liner I've read on here for ages spottybook.

I might even agree with FGT! Sorry. One of my favourite foods btw.

The man is a legally defined sex offender and I'm upset because I've been raped. It's probably upset a lot of other victims.
I'd imagine the family of the police officer who was murdered by the Capitol rioters and the 174 police officers injured are a pretty upset.
Trump getting in isn't just about being left or right. There's an organisation called 'Republicans against Trump's. It is frightening that someone like is in.Am sorry WellsRose. Seems there are some who will forgive a man anything as long as he hates immigrants.
Is a very sorry state of affairs.

I agree with GFT. Very unfair post
The thing is counselling is literally talking through your problems and emotions and being listened to. It's not diagnosing mental health.
Unfortunately most topics whether they be happy ones, sad ones or political ones on GN (along with other forums and real life) have affected someone at sometime.
We cannot know everyone’s personal circumstances.
It's not really about what works for me it is about whether what we are doing (especially for children) is working, it doesn't appear to be.
A poster on here used to talk a lot about the dangers of making everything a mental health issue, in that it trivialised mental health. I didnt used to agree at all with that but I am beginning to understand it.

WellsRose my heart goes out to you; I’m sorry that some on GN appear to find the discussion topic hilarious, even though you’ve shared your upset.
At least you, and a few others here, have enough empathy to understand that caring for others isn’t a joke
I suppose we’ll be considered as the ‘woke’ minority. So be it; I’m happy with that.
Me too…
