Your memory is scarily short Freya5. Try looking back just four months?
"Scarily short", well if you say so. Can't be bothered to go that far back.
I’ve got a good memory, that’s all.
Your link won’t open for me Wyllow, I don’t know why but it keeps crashing. In the meantime I had found this, which describes the additional funding the Tories has given to LAs in the current financial year -7.5% in cash terms, apologies if it’s the same link and yours works for others.

I wonder who those who contribute to threads about care needs think should pay for them.
They’re possibly already paying, and on a limited budget, without the ability to claim travel and living expenses like those on a higher salary, who are making the decisions are able to do.

*In April of this year under the Conservative Government Council Tax rises were 5.1%*

*So why are people grumbling that possible council tax rises in April 2025 may be similar or lower?*
Because the scaremongers hope that people have short memories.

Yes unfortunately. Last year when the 5 percent was set inflation was much higher. Inflation is now 1.7 percent but Labour are choosing to let councils charge 5 percent. So much for no more tax for working people.
Inflation may be down but prices aren't - I've just done my weekly shop.
Indeed! A number of the items I buy almost every week have just increased by over 10%, so even if council tax were to rise by 5%, that would be below the inflation I'm seeing in my own purchases. Incidentally, I've just been informed that my water bill is to increase over 10%.

Well here is a good explanation of how the Government have m.youtube.com/watch?v=w4P07cLPrJIgot it wrong. All these moves are politically motivated, and have nothing to do with helping our people, or the economy

All decisions by all governments are politically motivated Freya5. The difference is, some are motivated to do well for the few, and some for the many. Draw your own conclusions.

Isn't it up to individual councils to set Council Tax?

What is pointless about this thread is that there is nothing to discuss, as council tax rises every year. There hasn’t been any suggestion yet from the government that they are going to raise it above the level that had already been set by the Tories. If they do, then is the time to have a sensible debate about the pros and cons.

Wyllow3 👏👏👏
This thread and the one about NHS managers are devoid of common sense and seem to have the sole aim of criticising the Labour Party and its leader. They look as though they come straight from the think tank of the Reform party and it’s leader.
How dare you. Happy to call people names because you don't agree with what they are saying.
Wonder how many were first in line to criticise the last Gov. Quite a few on GN if I remember. I cannot remember any of them being called having lack of commonsense sense.
Why is anyone expecting him to rule out anything, when it will be some time before the next budget, and there may be any number of changes to Government thinking by the time it comes round?
OF COURSE he has refused to rule something out. If he had been more outspoken, he might have added "We have not reached a decision yet on that subject, and if I were to state to you categorically that we ruled out a rise, that would be pre-empting a decision not yet made and would commit us to a course of action before we had considered all possibilities. Please stop trying to make our policies for us."
More Tory press scaremongering.

Expected increase, wether they will add more bands to increase taxation of the high value homes is not clear, £100 is not going to improve council services, that’s very much more of the same
If it's an average of £100 a year, which I suspect it is, it's in line with the maximum 5% increase, which was set by the Conservative government. As Wyllow has already written, nothing has been announced anyway.

No surprise there.
The whole point - is he didn't say anything newnanny, the rules remain as they were under the last government, which is that individual councils can make their own limited decisions.
The opposition and for that matter newspapers might be more gainfully employed reviewing the funding issues local councils face, which differ greatly, and make suggestions.

I thought he had no said it will go up more than £100.
Is that a month or a year?
