I know that some of you will be reaching for your smelling salts at the mention of GB news but…
Camilla was interviewing a farmer this morning and he was put ting the farmers point across and she offered to host a debate between farmers and Starmer and Rachel Reeves
Doubt They’ll take it up but the offer is there..

Farmers have had subsides thrown at them for decades. How many other family firms had the same I wonder?

Fleurpepper Mon 25-Nov-24 15:29:50

I remember cousins from the USA telling me that Fox News is the best and the only ones telling 'the truth' (well their 'truth').

I didn't watch, but the only times I've heard Camilla Tominey speak has been on Question Time, and the TV was lucky to survive.

Silly Nanny!

Etoile2701 Mon 25-Nov-24 15:15:45

What rubbish!

Etoile2701 Mon 25-Nov-24 15:14:18

Sorry but I can't stand her or anyone else on GB news.

^How do you know they tell the truth?^

GBNews interviews people - MPs, Ministers, union bosses, Border Force officials MaizieD and allows THEM to speak to us. It’s refreshing to hear interviews conducted politely and with plenty of time allowed to get information from an official source. Trusted or not.

And when they have discussions their guests are always from different “sides” unlike the BBC who just have people on who agree with them.

I agree too. Camilla is the best!

I agree with FGT2. Camilla T is a brilliant interviewer - allows the person to make their point without interrupting and is always fully up to speed with the subject being discussed. She doesn't let folk get away with changing the subject and not answering the question (as much as is humanly possible anyway).

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 25-Nov-24 14:37:29

Camilla Tominey is my favourite presenter on GBNews. I tune in regularly every Sunday morning at 9:30am. I like her because she is fair and doesn’t accept ‘waffle’ from whoever she interviews. She asks questions politely, listens, does NOT interrupt, then if she feels she’s been short changed or the interviewee is dissembling, she asks further questions.

If anyone on here hasn’t watched her I really would recommend you tune in, just the once, to see what you think. You might even be very pleasantly surprised by her.

Nana8. The TV in Australia is abysmal, absolutely abysmal. ABC news were on at least 3 channels at the same time. New Zealand TV is worse. This was about 3 years ago.
Thank goodness we pay the licence fee despite the fact our channels can be awful sometimes, but not as awful as Australia’s.

Thank God for GB News, that's why they have become so popular now as they tell the truth and don't tell you how to think. They believe in true democracy and free speech and listen to all sides unlike the other news programmes.

News is news. No news outlet tells you how to think. Though they may put their own spin on it. I doubt if GB news is any different.

Re G B News------do you know what populism is? That news agency makes money from big business. Farming is mostly big business.

Well, no-one is going to carry on farming just for the sheer love of it, are they.
Farmers need to pay the bills, eat, too, just like the rest of us.

Of course, the more small farmers driven out of the business of farming or committing suicide through stress and lack of financial rewards, the better for big business.

At least we can also watch the GB news here in Australia without having to pay that silly BBC subscription. Still can't work out why on earth people pay that .

But they never ever expected it of that other PM, you know the one!

This is entirely different, so don’t be telling me I shouldn’t have started this thread..

Sorry that was not for you. It was for Willow…

I wonder how many people running down GB News have actually watched some of the programmes? They manage to tell latest news & have interesting guests & topics. What do I know though I am probably one of maybe half dozen old idiots who watch because I hate BBC & am fed up with Sky & ITV!

As I said on the last page, its reasonable for any news channel to ask for the government to attend a round the table meeting on any given issue: its also reasonable for the government to send the person best able to answer detailed and specific questions.

Discussing IT/farmers we have a running 26 page thread on all aspects of food, farming, land, tax breaks all relevant

Fleurpepper Mon 25-Nov-24 11:04:15

MaizieD Mon 25-Nov-24 11:01:30

It is not the job of the PM to run round doing Ministers' work for them. There is no reason why Starmer should be at that meeting, the Minister concerned will be much better informed about the issues. Reeves, yes, because she is in charge of the budget.

It is beyond the metal and physical capacity of any person to be running every single department of government and be fully acquainted with all the issues attached to each one. But that is what people seem to be expecting of a PM.

Jaxjacky

Will she host more, one for those who desperately need the lost WFA, one for the small businesses that won’t cope with the NI contribution increase? I’m sure there are others who have a point of view on government changes.

If she was asked, I’m pretty sure she would….
And I’m equally sure the government would not send any representatives to the table.. Particularly Reeves and Starmer..”

Sarnia Mon 25-Nov-24 10:15:14

The main problem here will be getting Starmer in the country long enough to attend the meeting.

Farmers are not a "community" They are business people in it to make money. Neither is farming a life style choice like crofting in the Highlands.

Many if not most farmers are rich , live in large comfortable houses, and drive expensive cars, and send their children to fee -paying schools.

When it's expedient to sell the farm many farmers sell the land for glamping or grouse moors .Often the land is sold to rich foreigners who require it as an investment or grouse moor or some such luxury.

It's high time that land use in the UK be used for the benefit of all not just for the rich few.
