Call a General Election - Petition

And still the elephant in the room is Brexit ( which, I believe, we are still negotiating) something that is still damaging the country financially.

It’s pathetic isn’t it
14 years of increasingly awful government but 4 months into the new government and the right are so very cross they want to overturn a democratically elected government

^Yep, same as for Brexit^

Absolutely Fleurpepper! Perhaps it’s time to start a petition for a second EU Referendum!

That’s a much better idea than calling for another General Election!

But the massive disappointment, concern, and anger is largely from people who didn’t vote Labour in the first place Primrose53 - which is entirely predictable, surely.

I don't necessarily like everything they are doing, but I don't think we need to have a general election yet.

^The PM will run out of events to be seen at out of the UK eventually^

Thank goodness for that. Then he can get on with running this country.

😂 😂 😂

Irrelevant- they have 4 years, legally and democratically.

And the Tories had 14 years to get us in this diabolical mess.

A silly idea so early after Labour won a massive majority.

But there is massive disappointment, concern and anger that Labour are not doing what they promised. If it’s this bad now, what on earth will it be like a few years down the line?

I really think some gransnet members have huge memory issues. The Tories have caused so much damage for 14years and now Labour is expected to “sort” it in a few weeks! BJ was the worst PM the UK has had and ever likely to have - try laying the majority of the blame on him or Truss or Cameron’s weakness regarding BREXIT.

I heard about this on the news. It wouldn’t matter if fifty million signed it, no new government would let go of the their newly gained power, especially if they’ve been out of power for fourteen years.

foxie48 Sun 24-Nov-24 17:24:26

Absolutely bonkers. We are a democracy and the Labour party with Keir Starmer as leader was properly elected as the UK government for a maximum term of five years. FGS the Conservative government was an utter shambles at times but I don't remember anyone starting a petition to demand an election because the UK is a Democracy and in a Democracy we abide by the rules of government!

There seem to be very short memories of what a mess we were in before the last General Election. A lot of the measures needing to be taken now are because of the problems which were left by the previous Government .

I agree. Just what on earth do people think the Tories will do ?

Maybe they won't vote for the main parties.

The petition will be ignored of course but if pressure keeps on building it could get tricky for KS and his front bench. The PM will run out of events to been seen at out of the UK eventually.

Omg who in their right mind has started this? Very very short term memories.

What a load of rubbish- we just had an election! Labour won a massive majority, get over it.

Spinnaker Sun 24-Nov-24 16:11:52

For anyone unhappy at the current government there is a petition available to sign. When I signed it last night there were 170k signatures - to say it's gathered pace is an understatement as it now stands at well over one million signatures.
