For anyone unhappy at the current government there is a petition available to sign. When I signed it last night there were 170k signatures - to say it's gathered pace is an understatement as it now stands at well over one million signatures.

The Brexiteers have cost us a fortune!

Realky Wed 27-Nov-24 07:36:04

The Brexiteers ruined our country, we got the idiots who voted for Liz Truss who tanked the economy and caused mortgages to go up. No, we are still paying for your mistake.

LizzieGee Wed 27-Nov-24 04:40:09

I would imagine they’re probably regretting believing Labour when they ‘promised’ they would not increase tax on working people

Turns out this didn’t quite apply to you if you are :-

1 A working Farmer
2 Running your own business and employing other working people
3 A university student who also works to pay back your loan which will now be even higher and
4 Of pensionable age and also still working to make ends meet .

( I do realise that 3 &4 are technically not taxes - but you get the idea ?! )

I hate to say it but I really think he could have the same problem Trump had when he had a sore ear. He's upset so many people in such a short time.

What do you mean by that? Please explain.

He's got to be the biggest liar of all time. Makes Boris look like a truthful person. Lol

An extract from Rachel Reeves Conference Sympathy for pensioners? I don't think so!
And then they stopped the Winter fuel allowance.

And more than that: it is the route to a stronger economy. That truth is at the heart of Labour’s plans for growth.

Today, I want to tell you why.

Last April, on a cold spring evening, I knocked on the door of a pensioner in my constituency.

When I reached out to shake her hand, it was purple and freezing cold.

Already back then, she was afraid to put the heating on, struggling to get by on the small pension that she had built up through a lifetime of work.

As energy bills and inflation rise even higher, I often think of her.

That is the stark reality facing people all around our country today.

Bloody hypocrite.
This what makes my blood boil. Listen to him.

I’m still waiting for things that the Conservatives promised in previous elections which nearly made me vote for them ( but thankfully I didn’t).

sazz1 Wed 27-Nov-24 00:39:48

The Labour government have gone back on every promise they made. Student fees up, national insurance up for business, inheritance tax up, WFA now means tested, cap on energy ended. So when businesses go bust due to NI threshold lowered and rate increased and minimum wage up, plus energy costs rising perhaps you will see why Starmer is slowly pushing us into a recession. Then property prices will fall remember the 80? Thousands will be out of work. He's even robbing the dead with inheritance tax rises. Farmers will sell up so expensive imported food will come in. And as for grandchildren going to uni, better hope they or you have savings to help them.
IMO Conservatives were not great but this apology for a Labour government is one of the worst we have ever had. His ideas will affect everyone and its nothing like their manifesto.
And yes I signed so did nearly 3 million others.

Vat on private school fees was in their manifesto and appears to be supported by the majority. Why should the tax payer subsidise a for profit education system.
Which industries?

This is correct. The 20% vat was in the manifesto.
Even as far back as the 2010 election, independent schools were making provision for the increase in fees should Labour have won then. This time it was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Actually many private school Heads and Bursars believe that the vat measures would have eventually come into play whichever party were in power.

The Vauxhall car factory in Luton is closing down in April with a loss of 1100 jobs. The first of many.
The debate around private education is a lie.

The closing of the Vauxhall factory has nothing to do with the recent changes to employer's NI if that is what you are implying.

Really, aligned with the Gov mad dash to net zero, who can afford EV, not me ever. They are not green anyway. Conservatives started it, now Labour and milliband have made it worse.
"Rules imposed to speed up the transition to electric vehicles (EV) in the UK partly drove the decision, the firm said.

Union Unite said the move was a "complete slap in the face" for its members working in Luton. worse. "

ronib Tue 26-Nov-24 22:25:43

MaizieD You are winding me up by your inability to understand the failure in educational provision for some pupils - probably at both ends of the spectrum. It is a parent’s responsibility to nurture and develop their own children in partnership with the rest of society. Private schools should be made more accessible and widely available not less.

ronib Tue 26-Nov-24 22:21:13

HPQ Net Zero? Industry is not reacting well to the budget and best not pretend it is.

I would have thought it was glaringly obvious that ronib, despite a great deal of evidence over the years to the contrary, believes that only private education is of any use.

I don't know if it's pure snobbery or, that she lives on a different planet or, she just likes winding us up.

ronib Tue 26-Nov-24 22:16:05

LizzieDrip. Males definitely don’t conform in the same way as females at school. Very highly intelligent boys may well be disadvantaged in the local comprehensive or academy. It’s a pity if only wealthy families are able to find the best education for their children.

foxie48. France will take over the manufacture of conventional vans. Their gain - our loss. Labour supports the loss of jobs at Luton.
The Labour Party is striking against the aspirational middle classes whilst leaving the upper class still firmly in pole position. This is true for its policies on inheritance tax on farming and vat on school fees. The upper classes can absorb vat increases on school fees but the lower middle classes will struggle. I feel for the gifted child from an average income family especially if male. Individual freedom of choice is for the birds.

Ronib The Luton factory is closing down partly because of the ZEV mandate which came into effect before Labour government came into power and partly because they are investing £50m in Ellesmere Port.
In what way is the debate around private education "a lie"? The LP announced it's intention of adding VAT to fees well before the election.

NannyC1 Tue 26-Nov-24 21:11:58

I think people are just getting on the Bandwagon by signing this silly petition.

ronib Tue 26-Nov-24 21:07:47

Well I don’t mind people holding appalling left wing ideas. It’s their choice.

Nannynancy Tue 26-Nov-24 21:04:27

Yes I can’t argue with that Allira, I was just speaking in a general sense of some of the appalling right wing views people have.

what’s right and moral.

What's right and moral is honesty.
Honest taxes, honesty is not criticising the Opposition for something then doing the same yourself, whether that is Tories criticising Labour or vice versa.

Honesty in politics general seem sadly lacking.
