Wow - thanks Nannynancy for posting some support for us left leaners, it sometimes feels like banging the head on the brick wall

Mr i was a kind, liberal minded individual but - he would indeed have closed down all private schools
VAT on private school fees is not exactly extreme socialism. Shutting them all down might be.
Do you know what, I’ve looked through nearly all this thread and the thoughts and expressions of most of the right wing, those who voted Labour to get the tories out and those sitting on the fence churn my stomach. I just wanted to say thank you to all those left leaning posters for sticking up for what’s right and moral. Thank you for being so eloquent in your defence of our beliefs. I’m just a working class woman who didn’t have a great education, but I know who’s right and thank you again.
Vat on private school fees was in their manifesto and appears to be supported by the majority. Why should the tax payer subsidise a for profit education system.
Which industries?
Iam64 vat on private school fees?
Closing down industries with increased costs for employers?

All these Labour diehards on here! This government is dishing out doctrinaire socialism like there's no tomorrow and hates the voters! Get real you people! They were elected by a fluke - not a massive majority.
Can you please name one thing this government has done that is remotely like ‘doctrinaire socialism’

Where on earth do you get this nonsense?
This government is dishing out doctrinaire socialism like there's no tomorrow and hates the voters!
OK, SingingRabbits. Can you give us some examples of this 'doctrinaire socialism' that is worrying you so much?
All these accusations are being flung around, but nobody seems willing to give us examples...
I begin to suspect that they are being fed a script and really haven't taken much notice of the words it uses...
This is beginning to feel like painting by numbers. What is it that makes people trot out the same argument all the time when they know how our democratic system works, and that under our democratic system Labour have a huge majority. It is what it is, they are here for five years, and it makes no difference at all if you don’t like it or feel it’s unfair.

An own goal for sure but to many that 200 was a few beers in Marbella.
It's the ones just above the cut-off point who will struggle.
You've obviously never been to Marbella! 💃

Surely the money should come from income tax? Thats the fair way to do it and that's why we pay it. It shouldn't come from picking on sections of the population that are either vulnerable or providing an essential service. Income tax is for raising money fairly for public services, or have a
Gone mad? What KS and RR have done is not fair but it is spiteful. Of course, after repeatedly promising that "working people " would not pay more tax, they had to take it in a way that no one expected and hurt lots of older people, children and people who provide us with food. Awful. It is not a Labour Party that I recognise.
Yes!!
Income tax is an honest tax.
It is not a Labour Party that I recognise.
I think you've put your finger on it 2507C0. Me neither.
That is probably why I feel uncomfortable bout them.

I agree foxie48, that is the right way forward for those who really do need the financial support.
With regard to WFP there has been a massive increase in applications for pension credit (242,000), as far as I am concerned every pensioner who gets PC is a huge win as it's putting money in the pocket of those who need it most.

How many of us were dis-satisfied (to put it mildly) with the policies of the past 14 years- which have destroyed our country, our services and industries? And how many PMs did we have?
I live in a rural area, a vote for labour is pretty wasted so I voted Lib Dem. There was a lot of tactical voting but the fact remains Labour won the election, got a thumping majority and has a five year term in government. Sign away but it will make not a jot of difference to who is in power.
just how many of us are dis-satisfied (to put it mildly) with their policies, none of which were included in their Manifesto
So people keep saying.
So which policies weren't in the manifesto? The WFA. What else?

Well done Spinnaker! I signed too. Not that I expect another General Election but as a pensioner I already have so little control over this government that just watching those signatures increase so rapidly gave me some satisfaction. If nothing else it will send a message to Labour just how many of us are dis-satisfied (to put it mildly) with their policies, none of which were included in their Manifesto. There are over 2 million signatures now.
As a pensioner you have little or no control over whatever govt is in power. The only thing you can do is to vote the sitting out at a GE. But not 5 months after they were elected.

Only 35% of those who voted, voted for Labour and only 20% of all who could have voted. It's very low. Of those who did vote some just wanted the Tories out. So not much support for the Labour Party.
And less than that voted for the Tories. But, to repeat, with our current democratic system, that’s irrelevant. Labour got more votes than any other party in 412 seats, so they have an unassailable majority.

A bunch of people, who think that there's a quick fix for the mess left behind by the last government. Fantasy thinking stirred up by those who bear responsibility for the mess.
