People in glass houses.....

Despite repeatedly saying he would never do this as he believed in justice, President Biden has granted his son, Hunter, an official pardon on gun and tax evasion charges, despite Hunter pleading guilty. Up pops Trump howling about the abuse and gross miscarriage of justice!! People in glass houses.............

This back and forth is getting tiresome Allira

We will have to continue to agree that we disagree among each other.

So our posts aren't rubbish then?
Just a different opinion?

Such rubbish on here. Biden and his whole family are corrupt criminals.

So how would you describe Trump?

You have no idea what is going on over here

Such rubbish on here. Biden and his whole family are corrupt criminals. I cannot wait for Trump to be a real President.

That is your view and possibly other people. Others would say the same about Trump.

Heaven help you over there with weak Starmer.

Many of the posts are saying the same though, those they dont agree with are brainwashed, illinformed, etc.

Wyllow3 Wed 04-Dec-24 18:56:42

Why come on a discussion board Arto1s

and when people say things you don't agree with, just tell them that they don't know what they're talking about.

I would like to ask you all, how many of you have actually lived in the US? I have spent nearly half my life in England before settling here. I think I am probably more qualified than most of you to make comments about both countries….

My sister has lived half her life in the UK and the last half in Spain tbh much as I love her I wouldn't trust her judgement on politics in Spain or the UK. Why? Basically she's just not that bright or informed, which could be a dangerous combination fortunately she'd rather give her opinion on cleaning floor tiles and how to cook a really good paella. I trust her judgement on matters like that!

Can I ask you how you feel about the insurrection, given that it resulted in people being killed? I can only assume that you think it was justified?

Not necessarily.
You have spent half your life, presumably the most recent half of your life in the US.

So that means for example, since you’re on GN that you might be 50, or 60 or even 70 so you’ve not lived in the UK in this century.

Things don’t stay the same as you left them, whether it’s a country or a job.

Both you and I have the advantage of seeing/hearing more up to date and endless reports about each other’s countries like Trump’s endorsement of the storming of the Capitol building, or his conviction as a felon, coupled with his apparent determination to pardon himself which make us feel able to comment.

As I’m sure you realise Artols everybody has different opinions, which are shaped by political bias. Your opinion is not more valid, even if it is informed by experience. The USA is split pretty much 50/50 Republican/Democrat, so there are plenty of people there who don’t share your views.

What comes across amongst other issues in your reference is how appallingly cognitively challenged Trump is and just full of bile.

He sometimes talks like an untutored gangster in an American 'B' movie from the early 50s. "Bad people" and "nice guys"...

He doesn't appear to be able to withstand any criticism and seems to take it very personally, I think that's partly why he's full of bile - crushed ego.

When he does his 'dad-dance' to 'YMCA' at the end of his rallies, I sometimes think, this is all about Trump, the mega-star celebrity, because that's when he looks really happy - among his adoring fans.

I'm pretty sure come next year, Trump will be handing out pardons like sweets. Starting with himself.

That would be a disastrous and stupid move on his part. Still handing a pardon to a known felon, H Biden, to cover last ten years, wasn't such a good move either. Corruption alive and well in US politics.

Wyllow3 Wed 04-Dec-24 09:33:46

Based on factual - recorded - evidence of what Trump has said during the run-up to the election, it's not impossible that Biden had a very good reason for pardoning his son. In spite of saying he wouldn't.

Rather than me cut-and-paste, read the following link - it's a safe link, to SNOPES which is considered a reliable fact-check resource which provides even-handed analysis; and its cited sources and reputable analyses confirm its accuracy.

... and make up your own mind who Trump might be targeting, or what he actually means, when he talks about "the enemy from within".

I have my own view, but I won't try to colour yours by expressing it.

Arto1s we have a regular poster from the US who gives a detailed and completely different view of events in the US as well as our own detailed reading. We know enough.

And the enormous amount of money spent on 'dark adverts', on Social Media, targeted to those considered most receptive to them (and which no-one else saw) in the run up to Brexit

That’s right MaizieD.

Listening to the The Secret Agents podcast on the Musk ‘donation’ issue, they are taking it really seriously. The Secret Agents are reputable, experienced political journalists, not given to hyperbole and conspiracy theory.

Their opinion is that (if the donation does happen) the money will likely be spent in a similar way e.g. purchasing and analysing enormous amounts of data on millions of people, who will then be digitally targeted according to sophisticated demographics etc.

In other words ‘brainwashed’ ahead of the next election. That’s why any donation will be made sooner rather than later - allowing 4 years to drip feed the Reform PLC message into people’s psyche in a highly targeted, unregulated, insidious manner.

It worked with Brexit - Farage has form on this approach. Who better to help him this time but the world’s richest man / social media mogul!

If people justify the poor behaviour of the people on 'their team' then why would anyone pay attention to their concerns about the moral behaviour of the other side.

Apart from what you glean from X or 'Truth Social'.

We only need to look at Trump.
If you’re saying the rest of your government are bad too . . .

Arto1s Wed 04-Dec-24 07:27:24

You need to look back at what Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were saying YEARS ago. It sounds like Trump today.

We just know that Trump is a felon, who lies, and cheats. If that’s what you like as a governor then you’re welcome to him.
