multiple sightings of large drones

What do you think of all of the drone sightings on the eastern United States, across military bases and also over the US military bases in Europe. The whitehouse.gov has held a meeting with the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI but they have no clue about who is flying these things although it shut down the airline runways in Ohio at the very largest airforce base in the United States. The drones are now hovering in Western US and they appear to be a minimum of 6 feet across and unmanned. Capable of speeds up to 60 miles per hour and they turn off all of their lights when approached by authorities. They are not visible on radar and are flying at a low altitude of about 300 feet.

I don't mean this to be a rude reply, so please don't take it as such. I can do nothing about these drones, so I just pay no heed. Quite frankly, Ive more to worry me. The USA monitors everything and I think they will know, even if they are not telling us. The drones don't seem to be attacking anybody or anything. I really dont have the energy to worry about anything else.

I don't consider your reply to be rude but just curious why you would choose to comment on a subject you have no interest in. Wouldn't it be wiser to comment and participate in threads that you do have an interest in?

A WEAPON that zaps enemy drones out of the sky using radio waves has been fired by British soldiers for the first time.
The Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) can detect, track and engage a range of threats across land, air and sea.

There isn’t a problem shooting them down in a battle zone, if you do that in an urban area there is a very high risk of damage, particularly if it’s carrying explosives. The drones we are hearing about in the US are probably part of a trial to disable or control drones without destroying them

I think the purpose of the RFDEW system is the same as using ammunition to remove drones. It is just much cheaper - a price of 10 or 20pence per shot was quoted.

The method of bringing drones down, is irrelevant, whether you shoot it down with ammunition or radio waves, if you do it over somewhere with a high populationi it is likely to kill people when in descends, the aim will always be to bring it down somewhere where its descent will not cause human casualties.

The drones either belong to the USA or the USA knows who they belong and have no concerns, otherwise they would have shot them down.

Laws have been written and are changing constantly. Those who aren't complying with the changes (10/2023) are still flying and there's no law enforcement to catch them flying in the act without identifying themselves. Sixty mph is not as fast as some go (115mph) and certainly there are now drones with 18' wingspan used to examine power lines, areas hit by natural catastrophes, etc. that are flying above 400' - in the airspace used for airplanes. These smaller drones at "300 ft" are within their domain as long as they don't fly above 400 ft. Laws vary for different sized drones and this is not common knowledge.... therefore all the hype and bs.

When the Chineses started flying weather balloons across the US we heard all about it, if there are foreign drones it would be well publicized.

Thinking back to my childhood, there were loads of people who were convinced in the 1960s that they had seen flying saucers, both in the UK and the US.

Some people had seen planes that were being test flown, which the RAF was not prepared to talk about for the simple reason that anything to do with them was classified. I believe much the same applied in the States too. So, they ran with the UFO theories.

Some people probably saw nothing at all, but genuinely thought they had.

Something similar could be happening now.

I doubt Russia has that many drones to spare right now, but they could of course be behind it.

It seems obvious to me that someone is playing a fast one. The point is, what is their agenda?
But I also think Cariad's point about aliens is intriguing and MOnica, is anyone saying all aliens are more advanced? There may be trillions who are not but they are presumably more concerned with crawling out of the mud than with interstellar travel. Also, we do not know why extra-terrestrials might be coming here, if they are, and there could be more than one sort. No doubt some would be friendly but they would probably not want to frighten us. Others could come for a laugh, others with malice. Who knows?

Reading the reports of drones and other unidentified aircraft in the USA, always makes me smile. It reminds of the time I was travelling with my aunt and some of her friends along the Californian coast road from LA back to SF. We were travelling late and night and got a flat tyre, whilst waiting on help a police car stopped and insisted we leave the area as the had been sighting of a UFO. That was my first time in a police car. They took us to a truck stop cafe where we had to stay until daylight. I was 16 at the time and couldn’t believe this was being taken seriously.😂

What the drones nonsense has highlighted is that their are some very stupid people in New Jersey. What has made me laugh the most was the Goodyear blimp being mistaken for a drone and the planet Venus being mistaken for one, which if it was a drone would be thousands of miles across. There have been drones in the sky for a long time, it's just that people don't look up. Doh!

Grossmama Sun 22-Dec-24 12:01:40

Worst case scenario is that they do not know if these drones carry nuclear stuff or leathal virus flasks. When shut down they would cause serious damage and yet only us could be blamed??

Exactly! Sometimes I think people have too much time on their hands. Speculation is exactly that. Christmas is almost here. It could be my last one and I can find better things to focus on than worry about something out of my control.

On a lighter note, here’s the Guinness Wrold Record being beaten with an amazing Christmas drone display in the USA last week. It’s amazing!

Technically the drones in question are the multi rotor hovering type, up to 2 or even 3 meters across and can lift 25 kg maybe more. So quite a threat, that kind of explosive size can do a lot of damage. Ways of countering them has to be found, by jamming or taking over control not just shooting them down.

They can be programmed by an ordinary mobile phone and will fly automatically to a given GPS point, so very difficult to take over control, because they download the map before they take off so jamming GPS doesnt work.

These drones reported are of advanced technology. I don't think Iran is capable of producing these. Russia, definitely not. China, maybe.

I will blame it on Elon, the tech guru. If he can make rocket ships better than the US military then I'm sure he can make the most advanced drones, too.

The drones did shut down the largest military base air space for four hours. These are not drones that can sit in your hand. They are 2 metres across.

You say 'reported' advanced technology. Who says so? What is their evidence? Why shouldn't the technology be US, British, French, German etc. All these countries are more than capable of prodducing and using 'advanced technology'

2 metres is not particulary large for a drone. Some are the size, and look like small planes with lengths of up to 15 metres (50 feet) and wing spans of 40 metres (145 feet)

If a few drones the size of cars are not hovering over your home at night, you have no need to worry about this issue.
