Marsh family video about the Gisèle Pelicot rape case

I know lots of GNetters expressed a liking for this family group. Perhaps it's just me but I find their latest rendition tasteless in the extreme. They are a monetised channel and I think exploiting this woman's stunning bravery is sick. I won't link to their offering to the tune of "50 ways to leave your lover" it's easy to find. I couldn't bring myself to listen to more than the first few bars.

The family issued a statement after taking the song off Youtube.

"The message we intended was not getting across"

This implies to me that they think the fault lies with the audience for not 'getting' their intentions not that maybe this was a massive lapse in good taste.

I agree that the matter should now be put to bed after all there are children involved and what they did was not a crime.

The same kind of insincere apology offered by politicians and others when they behave badly ie "I'm sorry if anyone was offended by my behaviour".
That means they do not acknowledge what they did was wrong.

I did look but only watched half the video on the General election. Would not look at the one about recent rape case. Very bad taste. Cannot believe they have a fan base. Children doing what parents want them to and mother swearing., Who would listen. I would think only people that are like them would bother.

Don’t know who the Marsh family are..

Perhaps the best way for people to decide for themselves?

Go on U tube and type in Marsh Family and watch a few videos. If you add "Covid" you'll see how they got started some years ago when they put out some funny and quite touching videos.

This was the song that made them famous and is about very ordinary family life under covid that struck a chord with many - very "home made"

They are liberal/lefty by nature and some songs are political, and they do a major fund raise every year

others wry observations - you also get a reasonable idea of how the family interact and decide for yourself if its exploitative or they are having fun and learning.

Marsh family have so far raised £17 200 for Save the children charity with their version of Universal Child on social media.

Never heard of them until this - won't be listening to them. Like the majority I am impressed by the bravery and dignity shown by Ms. Pelicot so how they felt it right to record such a "song" is beyond me

Let’s trot out that well worn adage, ‘Lessons will be learned’ then.

Their ‘message’ was not getting across because the audience has the good taste they clearly lack.

Pity they didn’t consider their children in the first place. That’s not our responsibility.

They’ve responded to national criticism and taken it down. Such poor taste!

Despite their misguided Pelicot ditty the Marsh Family have a supportive fan base. Let's not make this one mi guided incident a witch hunt. There are children involved.

I cannot see a witch hunt

I can see parents who have exploited their children to spread their political ideology for the last five years being caught out.

Allira Sat 21-Dec-24 19:43:20

There are children involved.

The children should never have been involved.
The Marsh parents used them.

My DC have been taught to think for themselves and I hope are not indoctrinated.

merlotgran I was thinking the same thing - Captain Tom's daughter and mother Marsh are definitely two of a kind.

Grunty Sat 21-Dec-24 18:40:43

Am I the only one likening these parents to Capt. Sir Tom Moore’s daughter?

No, I had the same thought. Both families are tawdry, money grabbing grifters who have a talent for spotting any passing circus that they can leech onto and suck dry. Karma has a way of dealing with them though; as the Ingham-Moores can testify.

Lyrics apart, a song undermines what Gisele Pelicot has been through and when someone is cashing in as well, it is totally wrong and insensitive.

For those who may have judged this song without really looking at the lyrics. I thought it was a testimony to her bravery^

Gisele most certainly doesn't, nor do we, need this crass 'testimony to her bravery'. Given they've removed it, and apologised you publishing the lyrics is equally insensitive.

I posted the lyrics because several people had said they hadn't listened to the song but still judged it. Don't think I was being insensitive.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 21-Dec-24 18:27:15

merlotgran they are definitely fame seeking

In my opinion they are as bad if not worse than pushy stage and dance mums

Basically using their children in order to push/sell their political ideology…

Apology from Marsh family on X, formerly twitter.

"The message we intended from this song -commending Gisele Pelicots remarkable resilience and bravery in waiving anonymity, and utterly condemning those convicted was not getting across, and we've taken it down. At no point was it being monetised. At no point was it intended to trivialize or upset people. We've always covered difficult news stories/ subjects( murders, war, gendered violence) in musical commentaries and don't think anything should be off limits. But we've pulled this one and will assess how to revisit. "

Where's the apology in that?

Sorry, the Marsh family have removed the video but not apologised.

An insincere apology only made when they have realised their attempt to monetise this horrific case has backfired.

They are trying to rescue their income stream…

Am I the only one likening these parents to Capt. Sir Tom Moore’s daughter?

Better late than never Marsh family, but only just.

BlueBelle Sat 21-Dec-24 17:38:10

They are up their own backsides and should not be involving children
Never liked that or them
There are better ways to show off their family’s talents
This was extremely distasteful
