Afghan women are being removed from Afghan society!

This is the latest ruling by the Taliban.

Women and girls are now living in total isolation, basically they are slaves to their fathers, brothers and husbands.

The English National Cricket team are due to play Afghanistan on 26th February in the ICC Champions Trophy.

I and many others are calling for England to refuse to play this match, what do others GN members think?

Signed and shared with family. If those boys don’t sign I’ll be having words…

Of course we have all heard about ‘so called ‘honour’ killings, My main point was Afghanistan is the only country in the world which refuses girls and young women an education. Or to be heard outside their homes.

I believe Afghanistan is the only country which stops girls being educated, or speaking in public, covered from head to foot or being outside without a man accompanying them.
Women live in extreme fear there.
As for allowing men in this country, they won’t be able to impose such misogynistic rules here.

You haven't heard about honour killings then?

And how many men are we allowing in this country who believe in this?

Hit the nail squarely on the head there. Many will have been brought up in that cultural mindset. Supposed to making the streets safer for women, aren't they?

This is appalling.

The England and Wales cricket team should definitely not give this their tacit approval by playing Afghanistan.

I was heartened to see the Afghan girls who are refugees here coming home from a local secondary school the other week; however, they are the lucky few.

It can indeed GG.

The UN does not recognise the new Islamic Emirate, but Afghanistan still has a seat at the table

It will take enormous strength of character from women worldwide to start the proverbial ball rolling against the inhuman treatment of women and girls by the Taliban.

Boycotting any sporting interaction is a small start, but it can be the start of something.

I think we are 'allowing' far more who do not agree with this regime and its treatment of women but who are tortured and imprisoned for doing so.

Imprisoning women like this also traps men in complying with this evil ideology and so they get out because they can, unlike the women who aren't allowed to leave.

There are many agencies working to assist and help the Afghans from outside the country, despite all the difficulties in doing so.

Raising these issues is important though, and I don't think the cricket should go ahead either.

However, looking more closely at our involvement in the arms and drugs trade might prove more worthwhile.

I've signed it. If doing that and deploring Afghan and other men who abuse females makes me racist then so be it.

love0c Thu 02-Jan-25 17:20:38

And there lies the problem maize with your last two words. I will not comment again.

Maizie 'Probably'? You may be prepared to risk the safety of yourself and your family. I am not!

Have you signed the petition, or did you just come to this thread to make racist comments?

Silverling48 tell that to the female victims of the grooming gangs. Absolutely no respect for females there.

Probably nowhere near as many as you think...

Of course they shouldn't play but sport is more important. We shouldn't have been in the last world cup due to Qatar's appalling human rights record but we were, so I don't suppose what's happening in Afghanistan will stop play.

Aveline Thu 02-Jan-25 17:01:04

Absolutely appalling situation for these women. They are half the population but can't be seen or heard. They can't even go in their own kitchens if they could be seen from a window. It's crazy. These Afghan men are perverted bullies. This is nothing to do with Islam.

Jeanathome Thu 02-Jan-25 16:56:35

So terribly sad. It's beyond our conprehension.

MissAdventure Thu 02-Jan-25 16:01:05

Thanks entirely to GrannyGravy for highlighting the issue in the first place.

I hadn't even heard about it.
