Should Convicted Criminal Trump Be Allowed Into The UK?

After all, America is very cagey about allowing people with a criminal record into the USA. It took John Lennon years to finally get permission to enter the US because of a drugs conviction.

Yes, in the US Trump is politely called "felon" but that's a dainty word for "criminal".

This country welcomes all and sundry, including convicted criminals. Why should it be any different for the American president?

I think that Trump will be allowed to come here because as President of the USA our country has to behave diplomatically.
However, it’s possible that he won’t wish to visit.

The point is, Trump should not be allowed to be President of the United States because of his criminal conviction(s).
I would think our 'special relationship' is dead in the water.

Precisely.

If only the UK would stop convicted criminals from entering here, or even better deport them…

I’ve read that a royal visit has already been planned. I feel for the King and Prince William who will have to entertain him!

Diplomacy will be at the heart of any visit. I’m sure the Royal advisors will manage a seamless visit without causing any difficulties for Charles or William.
After all, the Late Queen received Robert Mugabe on a state visit.

I remember people feeling sorry for the Queen when he visited before. She coped well though and I’m sure Charles and William will too. They have to entertain all sorts of people and are very diplomatic about it.

No he shouldn't but who is going to tell him he can't?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Jan-25 08:30:28

Prince William met with POTUS Trump when they were both in Paris for the re-opened of Notre Dame cathedral in December.

Our Royal Family are adept at meeting all sorts of people.

NO stay over there and keep Musk and Farage with you

M0nica Sat 04-Jan-25 08:35:25

Keep your friends close, keep your enemies even closer.

Of course he should be allowed!

Grantanow Sat 04-Jan-25 09:26:30

Pretty pointless discussion.

Wyllow3 Sat 04-Jan-25 11:56:08

We'll have to for the sake of diplomacy. but it would surprise me if he did a lot of travelling, hands pretty full with plans in the USA.

Ilovecheese Sat 04-Jan-25 12:14:59

If he pardons himself I suppose he will no longer be a criminal. He can come here, walk in front of the Queen, hold the Prime Minister's hand, and who's going to tell him he can't.

Smileless2012 Sat 04-Jan-25 12:17:35

I can't see Trump turning down another chance to meet our Royal family maddyone, he certainly enjoyed it the last time.

Calendargirl Sat 04-Jan-25 14:13:32

I think Donald was very complimentary about William after his chat in France.

eazybee You may think that no one with a criminal conviction should be President of the USA, but you are excluding the possibility of someone who has committed a criminal act a long time ago and led a blameless life since.

Be convicted of shop lifting at 16, and you cannot be President of the USA. That sounds utterly unreasonable. And no, do not start making special pleading for Donald Trump.

When American citizens went into the Presidential election they knew Trump had criminal convictions and voted for him all the same. So be it, what you, me or anyone else thinks about that decision is irrelevant.

The met might be interested, convicted felon. Wonder if what labour politicians will repeat their views about him.

Norah Sat 04-Jan-25 22:52:51

Has he expressed an interest in coming to the UK?

M0nica Sun 05-Jan-25 17:39:57

Have we expressed any interest in having him over here?
