Good.

Succinctly put MOnica and spot on.

theworriedwell. Any accusation has to have something to support it, and for many people ther willsimply be nos substance to the allegataions - and we see that happening in other fields, where accusations are made or a news item written, but verification soon show the accusation lacks substane, but in Tulip Siddiqus case, she has very close family links with the woman who was Prrime Minister of Bangladesh, but ran the county like a dictator. Rumours of extensive corruption have wrapped their way round her and her extended family and supporters for at least the last decade. Everything we have seen recently has shown how far Ms Siddiqu, was close to her aunt and her political life.

The real mistake lies with whoever gave her this responisbility within the Treasury, and even who made her a Secretary to the Treasury in the first place. It must have been well known how close her relationship with her family and her aunt who rules with out opposition was. If those security clearing Ministers for their jobs did not know they should be sacked.

she should have been appointed to be Secretary in a Ministry that was merely a spending ministry, where accusations like these would be less damaging.

Totally agree with you FGT but sadly they’ve got over 4 years to ruin the country. Why does no one in the Labour Cabinet have any experience in running a business?

They do?

Grammaretto Tue 14-Jan-25 21:05:48

Please, spare us from Reform.

The irony isn't lost on me of the anti corruption minister being accused of corruption.
But I am wary of the media - and the mob. 😔

FGT you’ve mentioned somewhere that you’d like Reform in power and so what is it that you think they’d do to improve your life or the future of the country? I’m so intrigued to know why you think they’d benefit you or anyone else?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 14-Jan-25 20:48:54

I know Casdon.
Lump it seems my best option at present.
I’m happy to be dazzled at some stage though.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 14-Jan-25 20:47:57

Back to Tulip.
How much foreign aid did the UK send to Bangladesh while Tulip’s family were pillaging £150 billion?

Casdon Tue 14-Jan-25 20:47:28

Labour are here for five years FriedGreenTomatoes2. Your choices are - like it or lump it.

And about time to.

Whether the accusations against her are true or false, to hold on the specific job she had where she was responsible for tackling corruption in UK financial markets for weeks afterthe accusations were first made just shows her unsuitability for the job she had.

Anyone in that particular post has to be the purest of the pure, and if accused, even incorrectly, should immediately step down from the post until proved innocent (or not)

I can see it is an important role and we have to have trust in the person but what if the media decide to make a target of everyone who gets that job and then they have to go because they are a distraction? I mean do they need any evidence or can they just throw accusations around? Would we end up with someone resigning from that role every week? It just feels like it is quite dangerous and potentially chaotic.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 14-Jan-25 20:45:45

Well I see Labour are turning out as bad as the Tories.

So, there is now literally no reason to have a Labour Government.

Everything they said in the run up to the election was a lie - manifesto fully funded, no tax rises, smash the gangs, etc.
They have robbed all private sector employees, pensioners, farmers, businesses, etc.

They have killed economic growth.
They are talking about an emergency budget and cuts to public spending.

And now they can't even claim the moral high ground or virtue.
They are an appalling Government. (So far).

The stars are aligning for Reform.

Yes, I see a red dwarf on the horizon.

Hmm.
Sir Laurie Magnus, the independent adviser on ministerial standards, said he had "not identified evidence of improprieties" connected with Siddiq.

"A lack of records and lapse of time has meant that, unfortunately, I have not been able to obtain comprehensive comfort in relation to all the UK property-related matters referred to in the media."

Sounds totally inconclusive due to lack of data and therefore warrants further investigation.

Starmer has lost a good friend and neighbour.
He’s not very good a picking them is he?

My post: She was not found to have broken any rules
🤔 again

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 14-Jan-25 17:10:39

*splinters. Duh!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 14-Jan-25 17:09:59

Allira

She was not found to have broken any rules but when a Minister becomes the story then resignation is the best step.

I don’t think she’s been cleared yet Allira. And I think she was a distraction these last few days because Starmer did nothing. He sits on the fence a lot doesn’t he? Wonder if he’s got sprinters in his bum.

Namsnanny Tue 14-Jan-25 17:06:16

KS hopes she will be a political tourniquet.
No doubt she will pop up somewhere advantageous to her career later on.

Nonnato2 Tue 14-Jan-25 16:54:27

Good news. Reeves, Lammy and Raynor next.
