Peace in the Middle East

The losses of nearly 50,000 civilians mostly women and children in Gaza and the West Bank and the increased land grabbing from Palestinians by illegal Israeli settlers are a recruiting sergeant for Hamas.
They want, they need, peace but this is not in Israel’s plans.
I wish it were.

The thing is David, what respect does the USA have for the UN. Remember how they pushed through the war on Iraq.
We live in the age of the Hawk not the Dove.

Probably the biggest obstacle to overcome is the UN supporting Gaza, while that continues its in limbo, no settlement, no rebuilding without security whoever emerges governing Gaza has got to guarantee peace and be able to control any extremists.

It is more than likely that Hamas cannot fulfil the criteria around the hostages. They know that if if every single hostage is not accounted for - dead or alive - and the alive ones testify to the very likely brutality of Hamas towards them, Israel will finish the job they started. No one can have peace with a terrorist organisation that repeatedly attacks you and who wants you exterminated, and shame on the world for expecting Israel to have a ceasefire.

The US has to be seen to be trying. Their Arms Industry must be raking it in - another shipment promised to Israel this month. The US needs a strong base in the region to watch what Iran is up to next.

There will be no peace. The US is deluding itself. As long as one Hamas fighter still lives, this war is not over.

The only card Hamas has is the hostages. I can't believe they will return all of them. Palestinians will not be allowed to rebuild which begs the question as to why little help for the refugees seems to be coming from other Arab States. Too much trouble?

Well I had hoped that it might happen, but I think that ship has sailed along with any hope for the Palestinian population.

Where are palistinians supposed to go? There are already many thousands still living in refugee camps in nearby countries from past wars, decades after their lands were seized.

Hamas is the governing body in Gaza

The problem is that the war has been lost for Hamas, yet it won’t admit defeat and certainly many of the population don’t admit defeat.

After WW2 the population of Germany and Japan both accepted defeat and there was peace, there will be no lasting peace until Gaza stops fighting and disarms fully.

Netanyahu signaled there were issues with the deal shortly after U.S. President Joe Biden and key mediator Qatar announced it was complete

It was not yet clear if Netanyahu's statements merely reflected jockeying to keep his fractious coalition together or whether the deal was at risk
