I’ve started this thread because for some unfathomable reason the one discussing the latest agreement has disappeared.

An important subject for all concerned, and too important to ignore.

So as you were folks.

Where should the Jews live?

There was a plan to create a homeland for them in, I believe, Kenya, at one time. If it had come to fruition the whole course of history might have changed.I don’t think that plan would have resulted in other people being removed from their homeland.

So not in their traditional homeland then?

🤔

It is what it is and harking back in time doesn’t help anyone just causes more division.
If the extremist groups in the area could pack up their hate and medieval ways Jews and Arabs could get along just fine.

Does any ethnic or religious group have any right to live on their own in oblivion of others anywhere?

Where should Palestinians live?

Luckygirl3 Mon 20-Jan-25 17:34:13

There will never be peace in that region. Firstly because it is steeped in fundamentalist religions which are by their nature divisive. Secondly because the west stuck its oar in and drew random geographical lines.

I am filled with admiration for anyone who tries to find a solution.

A lot of people lived in lots of places at different times in history. It doesn’t give them the right to just displace the people that now live there now, though.

Anniebach Mon 20-Jan-25 16:57:18

Yes back further in time Jews lived there, you say ‘nonsense’

pascal30 Mon 20-Jan-25 16:42:08

Thank goodness for some sense

Claremont Mon 20-Jan-25 16:40:04

Many Jews cling to the Bible as the source of their claim on Palestine, but few modern experts would see that as valid in the 21st century. The Bible is not a history book – it is a religious text and as such a mixture of myth, fiction, and oral tradition.

Biblical history does say that there was indeed a time when there was a Jewish state called Israel covering part of this area. But it was smaller and lasted a much shorter time than many people realize, and the Jews were only one of many ethnic and tribal groups who shared the area.

Claremont Mon 20-Jan-25 16:31:49

Nonsense.

I doubt Israelites want to live with Hamas dropping into their
homes, suppose they could leave their country ?

who should leave whose country???

The land of the Palestinians was taken from them in the Nakba in 1948, through no fault of their own. And since then, more and more land has been violently taken, bit by bit- and what was left bombed to smithereens recently. Whose land?

Anniebach Mon 20-Jan-25 15:39:45

What peace do you expect from Hamas?

Wyllow3 Mon 20-Jan-25 15:29:20

Don't quite get your drift, Annie. I'm not being hostile, and won't demonise ordinary Israelis or Gazan's.

If you turn the sound up on the videos from Gaza yesterday you can hear their chants, they do not want peace, they want the destruction of all Jews.

Were they chanting in English or can you understand Arabic? I must admit I listened but couldn't understand a word. Have you listened to what some of the Israeli politicians, such as Ben-Gvir, have been saying?

Yes, undoubtedly those chants were war like. but that doesn't mean that huge numbers of Gaza's feel that way, they probably just want to rebuild a home and a life and live freer from fear. Like in the picture.

Just as if you listen to some of the war-like far right politicians in the Netanyahu regime, they want the river to the sea and military domination, but I most certainly do not think that that therefore means that ordinary Israelis want anything else than those Gaza's returning "home", which is to be able to live in relative peace.

I'm trying to find an account of a meeting last night that was held in Gaza to plan rebuilding - it was announced there was going go be one.

As regards pictures, it was also good to see the hostages returned - hoping so much that peace will hold for all.

I live with the Vikings every day of my life (another story).
If what I think you mean is right, I sympathise, so does a member of my family.

Has he/she written books too? Are you the 'de facto' research assistant?

No - I thought you meant you were living with Dupuytren's contracture like my relative! Jumping to conclusions.

Yes, which I said ‘the past’ not some of the past

Tho the Viking ‘blood rage’ does fit with what hamas did on 7th October 2023.That’s the only thing they have in common.

Nonsense! Don't fall for the stereotypes.

Before we’re finally done with Vikings on here🤔 the instances of blood rage with Viking warriors is well documented.
Of course it doesn’t apply to every Viking person, who would be silly enough to believe that! Most were farmers I expect.
Now, let’s be done with Vikings already.

growstuff Mon 20-Jan-25 12:29:54

No need to sympathise - I enjoy it, but I'm not prepared to discuss a topic with people who know very little beyond what they see in TV programmes.

True.

The Vikings were not all bloodthirsty warriors.
