It’s not a war because only one side has the weapons.
It’s annihilation.
Then why does Israel need its Iron Dome to protect its citizens from missiles fired by Hamas?

I’ve started this thread because for some unfathomable reason the one discussing the latest agreement has disappeared.
An important subject for all concerned, and too important to ignore.
So as you were folks.

Hamas had plenty of weapons, you think they had only sling shots? They also had the advantage of local knowledge and the tunnels.

Not so far from the OP it’s about hope for peace and independence for all in Israel and Palestine. Something anyone with any humanity Woukd wish for.
Clearly from this thread alone there is little chance with so little compassion for others.
I am just Listening to Netanyahu live from Jerusalem, speaking about it being just a temporary ceasefire in order to get the hostages back but making it clear that Trump has backed their objectives and he will give Israel all the weapons needed to go back into Gaza to finish the job. Goodbye any hopes of a two state solution. Just more war.
They are increasing their forces who will not leave Gaza as expected and says the entire world is impressed with Israel’s accomplishments.
I am not so sure about that. He is a dangerous man with dangerous intentions.
I haven’t seen any lack of compassion from anyone on here and know we would all like to see this conflict brought to an end and those poor hostages returned after well over a year as prisoners held in Gaza. They will have had all that time wondering if that day is their last, if they will be raped multiple times first and will be traumatised for life. Many will already be dead. What life have the young children taken had? Doesn’t bear thinking about.

It isn’t vile, it’s realism, what woodenspoon says.Do you imagine that the 17 year olds who tied up and shot and stabbed families in the kibbutzim before setting them on fire are anything like your own 17 year old grandson?
You’ve hit the nail on the head!
Of course not.
Now ask yourself
“Why”
Those young people have witnessed stuff you simply can’t imagine.
From their great grandparents being kicked out of their home of generations, to losing their land on which they relied, to becoming second class citizens, now finding themselves in an apartheid state, to daily violence meted out by who they see as oppressors. And life getting harder and more difficult as each year passes. This. Is only a tiny fraction of what they have seen and heard.
How would your grandchild react to this since birth?
I don’t know about hitting nails on the head, the teenagers in Gaza and the West Bank grow up to hate Jews as the adults around them do.That doesn’t mean that all Palestinians are up for murder and rape, only certain ones, just as 17 year olds here in the UK are wildly different. The ones who murder and rape here are nothing like your grandchildren I’m sure, but they are somebody’s grandchildren.
Trying to apply modern day liberal Western values is a non starter to many teenagers in the Middle East Arab countries, but even so there are those always happy to kill and torture and those who just won’t.In any country.
Life will never be the same for Palestinians or indeed Israelis, even if a cease fire becomes permanent, which at present is unlikely.
It is estimated that at least 47,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, not counting those with life changing injuries and 60% are women and children. Whole family lines have been eradicated. Families have been displaced and homes flattened with 90% deprived of water and food. This can never been justified and cannot be described as a war. I cannot see how it can be anything other than a genocide.

We seem to have wandered far from the OP subject, but am sure we all want a peace deal agreed, even if for different reasons.
All of us want a peace that lasts, to do that needs compromise on both sides, we have some way to go before we will see that happening.
It is estimated that 1.5 million children were killed in the holocaust, the majority of those were Jewish.
Is it any wonder that Israel has the Iron Dome to protect its citizens from continuous attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah?
I cannot see there ever being a lasting peace in the Middle East whilst the Jewish people feel victimised and hated by its neighbours.

17 might well be legally classed as a child but we all know from crimes committed here that some 17 year olds or younger are far from being a child. Some are feral, viscious, violent, would stab you as soon as look at you. Not all 17 year olds are equal. I would imagine it’s the same in all other countries.
“Give me the child and I’ll give you the man”
What does that tell you about the future of thePalestinian. children, and what they have experienced under the iron fist of the Israelis ?
How could any grand-mother of 12-17 year olds say what was said above- ever?
These children grew far too fast however, because of what they have seen and experienced, from birth.
I just cannot believe what is written on a grandparent's Forum! It is vile.
They have also grown up with rampant hate against all Jews.
Given the chance who knows what they would do.
Yes, there are two factions on here pascal and some of us are on the side of a democratic country with values similar to us in the West who just want to be left alone without missiles being fired at them daily by Hezbollah ( until very recently) and murderous hamas hordes pouring into their country overnight from Gaza.
The people in Gaza have been badly served by hamas and see what has been brought down upon them, a hard lesson to learn.

What are you saying? Or simply trying to find excuses for the way these children have been treated and had to endure from the Israeli forces.
Don’t be taken in and don’t judge these ‘children’ by your own Western liberal values, they would laugh at it.
unbelievable. Did you miss the 12 year olds too?
These children have grown with diabolical violence perpetrated against their communities, family, friends and often, themselves. Of course they are affected, in so many ways. After this 'war' is over- they will be even more so, for life, if they survive at all.
There are two very distinct factions on here..
Sigh 😞
The psychology and maturation of the young human is the same throughout the world. There are of course cultural layers that may be added, but childhood experiences affect every child on earth.

17 years can be capable of so much.
Driving, marriage, becoming parents, voting, working.
Murder and rape.
Others can be quite immature of course.

17 year olds are legally children.
Do you mean in the UK?
Palestinian law states children become adults at 18.
^However, some leaders of Palestinian armed groups consider children 16 and older to be adults.^
There were plenty of 16 and 17 year old hamas members who took part in the kibbutz massacres and the music festival one.
They enjoyed their murderous spree and recorded it on their phones.
