Trump’s Speech

Are these really the words of a sane man!

“America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on Earth, inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world,”

Be afraid, be very afraid!

He sounded as if he was going to fix all of America's problems in one fell swoop. What he didn't mention was how he is going to do it though. Had to laugh when he said he'd been saved by God to make America great again.

Which countries are on the Trump list to raid? My impression is that Trump is concentrating on America and his expansionist plans do not include invading foreign lands. Casdon

Do you think the Panama Canal belongs to USA ronib?

From what I read the other week USA handed over control of the canal to Panama.

Panama now gives the Chinese vessels preferential treatment and rates, China is calling the shots now.

But surely that is up to Panama?

If you believe in sovereign states - then so be it.

My initial reaction was that it was a speech of division and fear.

The release of the neo-Nazis from prison.

The underlying threat of violence in the Panama issue, the Canadian border threat, the expansionism and the reduction of rights.

We have yet to see any of these threats come into action, if they do it will not be pretty, nor conducive to peace.

Casdon don’t know much about the Panama Canal but I didn’t think it was a country in itself.

Why would I believe you're deranged? smile
We're all just making judgements on his speech, and perhaps his body language (?)

There are only two genders in America. What’s wrong with that? Try and look at the positives and there are some.

He's a maniac, as far as I'm concerned.
A dangerous maniac.

I agree and anyone who believes his speech is full of “positives” is possibly naive or perhaps deranged!

In case you mean that I am deranged, I said Trump's tone and delivery, was "positive", not necessarily the content!

America has long been under the illusion that it rules the world. One of the reasons why British people should stop copying them. They set a poor example!
However, at present, we need Trump. We need an end to all this Liberalism and Globalism.
Trump intends to put America first....and we need to start putting Britain first!

There’s a very nasty far right group in the UK, Britain First.

I suggest that they might be right up your street.

We certainly don’t “need” Trump!

So you don't see anything wrong with the government robbing pensioners and farmers and giving millions to other countries?
We DO need Trump. This country is in a mess and it's only going to get worse under the present government.

Luckygirl3 Tue 21-Jan-25 09:56:04

Trump intends to put America first....and we need to start putting Britain first! - how tedious (and frankly dangerous) these sort of media soundbites have become. They exist for those who prefer not to think or reflect on what is best for humankind.

We do not need top dogs, we do not need a competitive mindset - we need to think about how nations can cooperate and co-exist with kindness and consideration. We now have global communication and for the first time in history the tools to do this - and what has happened? The media have twisted greedy people's minds into wanting top status for their country rather than grabbing this opportunity to care for all nations.

No wonder we are in this mess where unremitting conflict is the norm.

Casdon Trump doesn’t need us to authorise his statements. He’s a free agent and saying what his voters want to hear. Interesting that he seems to have omitted Putin from any public discussions.

You’re missing my point ronib. The thread isn’t about Trump making statements, it’s about whether we agree with what he said or not. It sounds as though you do think it’s okay for him to say the USA will raid other countries.

I think we'll be fine It's a new firm of politics. Lots of positivity ... for some

The salute has been mentioned on another thread. I honestly don't believe it was a Nazi salute. Obviously not a socialist one either. Socialist salute? Hardly. Musk seems to be the master of strange movements.

Trump has won. We must live with it

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Elon Musk's "Roman salute".

There's a separate thread about it.

I find it a bit scary, one country, one people, one leader, worrying potential there

But any UK pm making that kind of threat would be laughed out of the room… Trump made no mention of Greenland yesterday.

Do you think the fact that USA has the military force to carry out his threats makes it okay for Trump to say what he did then ronib?
