A summary of Starmer’s first 6 months.

So far, these include, in no particular order:

Ending the winter fuel allowance; pausing free speech protection in academia; legislating against Academy schools; imposing inheritance tax on farms and family businesses; the higher rate and lower starting threshold for employers’ National Insurance; greatly extended day-one employment rights; legislation which may compensate Gerry Adams for having been interned; imposing a state football regulator; giving away the Chagos Islands and paying Mauritius a bounty of £9 billion for taking them; cancelling new North Sea oil and gas exploration; bringing forward the death of petrol and diesel cars; more than doubling the fee for a shotgun licence; renationalising the railways; taxing the inheritance of private pensions; restricting council house right to buy; VAT on independent school fees; abolishing hereditary peers without any other reform of the Lords; axing the listed places of worship grant scheme; restricting arms exports to Israel; trying to kill the secondary market in tickets for sports and pop concerts; a renters’ Bill which will frighten off landlords; large pay increases to striking railway workers and striking junior doctors; steeply increasing the minimum wage; and remedying the Tory “black hole” in the public finances by creating an even bigger one.

On the basis of the above socialist, pressure-group based agenda, we are bound to conclude that employing anyone or seeking better education for one’s children or passing anything on to them or letting property are things of which Labour deeply disapproves, as are achieving food or energy security.

We also know, however, that Sir Keir and Rachel Reeves are mad keen on finding what he calls “the growth lever”. It is genuinely puzzling how they imagine that any measure detailed above could possibly contribute to that end.

We who voted Labour just have to bite the bullet and say that there’s a reason that Labour generally and Starmer particularly are so low in the polls and have been for months. They must improve or they’ll sink completely in the public’s view.
A rapid shake up of the Cabinet is needed for starters.

Even the Chagos island hiccup and the employers increase in N.I.? And the huge rise to train drivers?
Surely not.
🤔

Surely not indeed! Hard to believe that anyone of any political party could agree with all those things , a real stretch of the imagination too far.
There’s only a couple on that list that I do agree with.☹️

I would guess, purely my own theory, you understand, that what they are trying to do is create a world where everyone is equal. Britain is a wealthy country. Their intention is to bring us down to the level of third world countries. Therefore they are robbing us and giving money to poorer countries.

They see themselves as philanthropists, except that they are not spreading their own wealth, they are stealing from those who have worked for what little they have.

Just out of interest, does your theory have any measurable or validated evidence attached?

karmalady Sun 26-Jan-25 06:38:10

Thank you for that comprehensive list FGT. I always knew he was the type to spread depression to the population and there it is in black and white. Yuk. I instinctively never liked him and his cronies, with good reason

Well, there you go then.

A disaster far worse than expected. Every day some other draconian measure to add to the gloom. I hope Rachels recent trip was educational.

I keep waiting for improvements from this government. Waiting, waiting ….
Ours are not so good, either but they are saints compared with your mob.

Did you even bother to read the link posted here yesterday at 15.41?
It would be helpful if you could elucidate your response to the government actions listed there.

What’s wrong with doubling the fee for a shotgun licence? Maybe we should follow your beloved Trumps idea and just let people walk into shops and buy guns…

What rubbish!

Sago Sat 25-Jan-25 18:40:27

A shot gun licence is under £200 and a renewal is £135.

So it’s hardly a money spinner.

Just another “toff bashing” policy.

I don’t know anyone who would consider giving up their licence due to the price hike.

Wow! okay then LizzieDrip. 😁

LizzieDrip Sat 25-Jan-25 15:56:26

FGT yep😊

Mollygo Sat 25-Jan-25 15:54:36

Thanks FGT.
The no evidence when referring to existing, previous or future black holes will depend on KS’s thoughts on the day.
In response to the Tory black hole-
it didn’t exist,
but then the LP was elected and it suddenly did.
Will it be bigger? I can’t see her giving away 9 billion will reduce it, of course that depends on where he says that money has come from.
Good to hear your words of praise LD.

^Doubling the fee for a shotgun licence is a bad thing? Who knew^

It will do nothing to eliminate unlicensed firearms though.

That is already covered in the Firearms Act.

I actually (half asleep) read it as a quick marriage licence😄😄😄

I’m with you lizzie 😄😄

LizzieDrip Sat 25-Jan-25 15:47:09

Wow, thanks for this FGT.

They all sound fantastic as far as I’m concerned - apart from the final one (creating an even bigger black hole) which we have no evidence of yet!

Anyway, thanks again - made my daygrin

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 25-Jan-25 15:44:52

Actually I hadn’t seen the other thread Mamie.
Thank you.
I will read both OPs side by side. I bet they both have a slightly different take on ‘where we are six months in’!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 25-Jan-25 15:41:54

To be honest this was lifted from the Telegraph just now. I thought it made for interesting reading.

Mamie Sat 25-Jan-25 15:41:47

FGT I think you must have missed this thread. It is a bit more factual and comprehensive than yours.

However, paying doctors closer to what they are worth is just being sensible about market forces, we need to stop doctors leaving to work abroad for better pay and conditions. (that's not socialist either)

Doubling the fee for a shotgun licence is a bad thing? Who knew.

Possibly a teeny tiny bit socialist is trying to ensure a reasonable and accessible price for concert tickets.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 25-Jan-25 15:27:36

You forgot one FGT2 Rachel Reeves is allegedly back tracking on revising Nom Dom tax breaks.
