It was Germany, and to some extent the whole of Europe and the USA, who failed Jewish people in WW2. There were people in Britain who knew exactly what was happening to Jewish people in Germany. Yet many Jews who were in imminent danger were not allowed to enter Britain, and only a limited number of children - many of whom never saw their parents, or indeed any relatives again. The USA only got involved when Pearl Harbour was attacked, otherwise America wanted to keep out of it.
Yet, the Palestinians - who had no involvement whatsoever in the persecution and murder of Jewish people, paid the price for the Holocaust. And, after the war, it is now known that many learned scientists and highly qualified people who had supported the Nazi movement and whose knowledge would be useful to powerful nations, were secretly given refuge in other countries.
Anniebach Have you done any research as to how Palestinian people have been treated in the country which had been their home, and about the lives they have led since their banishment to a tiny portion of the land that was once theirs? The behaviour of the Israeli Government has been likened by many respected individuals and organisations as akin to that found in South Africa under apartheid - whose government called it "separate but equal". It was anything but. Desmond Tutu, who had experience of the apartheid system said that Israel's policies were so like those of apartheid South Africa.
Of course, the attack by Hamas was a vile and cowardly atrocity - and of no help whatsoever to the Palestinian people since, apart from being an evil in itself, it has been used to justify Israel's actions.
Anniebach You have, on many occasions, recalled Wales' unfair treatment, at the hands of the British Government. The government banned Welsh people for speaking their own language and the people had no input into the decision making process relating to issues that solely, and often adversely, affected Wales.
Imagine if the English government had granted official approval for a group of people, not native to Wales, to seize the greater part of Wales, and all the homes thereon, for their own uses, at the same time as confining the indigenous population to a small area of land - and denying them anything like equal access to natural resources, such as water, gas and oil. Whilst there were very serious grievances, they were in no way comparable to the seizure of land, homes and resources which happened to the Palestinian people, yet ......
Wikipedia:
"Meibion Glyndŵr (Welsh pronunciation: [ˈməibjɔn ɡlɨnˈduːr], also known by its translation Sons of Glyndŵr) was a Welsh nationalist group which carried out more than 200 arson attacks against English-owned holiday cottages in Wales.[1] The organisation was founded in 1979, during a period of increasing nationalist sentiment in Wales. During this period, significant elements of Welsh public opinion were opposed to the purchase of holiday cottages in Wales by English people, perceiving it as being a major cause in increasing Wales' house prices.[1] Members of Meibion Glyndŵr were responsible for setting fire to several English-owned properties in Wales from 1979 to the mid-1990s, with only one person connected to the group being arrested.
Wikipedia re J B Jenkins
John Barnard Jenkins plotted a long and audacious bombing campaign with the Welsh nationalist group Mudiad Amddiffyn Cymru (the ‘Movement to Defend Wales’ – generally known as MAC) that caused damage to water pipes and government buildings throughout Wales from 1963 to 1969. ..............
"The first bombing targeted a water pipeline at Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant and the campaign continued with attacks on numerous targets for several years, including tax offices, monuments and an English-owned business. The attacks culminated in four bombs being planted to disrupt the investiture of Prince Charles at Caernarfon Castle in 1969. The first device exploded prematurely, killing two MAC members, while two failed to detonate. One of these laid undiscovered for several days before seriously injuring a 10-year old boy who discovered the device. The last exploded in the garden of a police Chief Constable. Later that year, Jenkins was arrested and charged with theft and explosive offences in relation to the bombings and was sentenced to ten years in prison."
The grievances of the Welsh people were, in my opinion, absolutely well-founded - but they were not in the same ball park as what happened to the Palestinian population. Can you imagine what those nationalist groups would have done if Wales had been in the same position as Palestine?
Are you irritating in RL? (light hearted)
