Disgusting! Absolutely no excuse and total lack of respect for women. The men in my family would never use such language or show such disrespect towards women. They don’t even use swear words in front of me,
So Harry and family are coming back!
Wynne Evans has stepped away from his BBC radio programme after making an “inappropriate and unacceptable” remark towards a Strictly Come Dancing presenter
Evans, the opera singer and star of the Go Compare adverts, was caught on camera appearing to use the term “spit roast” in reference to Janette Manrara, who is hosting the Strictly live tour.
The incident happened during a photocall for the tour in Birmingham, as Ms Manrara stood between Evans and Jamie Borthwick, another Strictly contestant. Borthwick did not take part in the exchange
I am proud to say it would not have occurred to DH or indeed any men in my family to use that sort of language.
D1 and GD (10) went to the Strictly Live show 10 days ago, with friends, also with a 10 year old daughter.
GD loved it but if she had caught any of the interview what on earth could we have said to her?
Disgusting! Absolutely no excuse and total lack of respect for women. The men in my family would never use such language or show such disrespect towards women. They don’t even use swear words in front of me,
I suspected that when the first allegations came to light (when he appeared to have been inappropriately touching the professional dancer), the dancer in question was in a tricky position. If she acknowledged that this sort of behaviour had been a problem for her, it would damage the reputation of Strictly, and possibly lead to its demise. Then she, and all the dancers and other people involved in the programme, would be out of a job. However, the look of disgust on her face in one of the sections of filming seemed to tell the story accurately.
I too had never heard of the expression "spit roast", but of course looked it up. How absolutely vile and disgusting.
I tend to agree with the poster. It seems there are more men that we would imagine who think in this way. They may appear innocuous but, on the quiet, they have some horrible views about women. The many men in France who raped an unconscious woman, at her own husband's instigation, no doubt appeared perfectly ordinary. It's a sad state of affairs but I guess it has been ever thus.
Well, someone used the term "entitled", and sadly there seems to be a subset of the celebrity class who think they are just that, special rules, and it's just because all the fame and acclaim has made them believe their own hype. There are still plenty of celebs that are nice, genuine people who recall where they came from.
As for "disgusting terms" -- sadly, 'normal' people can certainly dish out derogatory comments that they probably wouldn't want used on them, and that's women too!
Pity they didn’t sack all the other perverts back in the day.
Just read the meaning of this term he deserves to lose all his contracts. Apparently the BbC team have spoken to him previously about his behaviour, they should have sacked him a lot sooner.
Yes I recently came across this term! Not a nice thing to suggest live on tour 😩
Woke or not, "roast" refers to something particularly unpleasant and somewhat violent. I'm not going into more detail

He is being given too much attention by the media, in my view. He is full of himself, thinks he's so funny with all his "jokes", and is giving the impression that he was the one who decided to have a break, not the BBC taking him off the Strictly tour.
And Shirley Ballas has come out in his favour! What's going on there? No sisterhood that's for sure.
Now it seems his girlfriend has ended their relationship. A wise move on her part methinks.
Yes- this! Stuff like this is fodder for the media who believe most people are interested in this kind of shallow, self-serving person.
This isn't just a man thing either- it is a thing about self-respect and respecting others which is a human thing.
I have only come across this term in relation to a female MP who recieved, as so many do, lots of hate mail on social media.
No wonder few women want to stand for parliament!
Unless his mental health problems result in him not knowing or caring what is and is not appropriate, I don't understand the relevance.
If he says that in public, dread to think how he talk about women in private!
I had never heard of what he said either. Yuck! He’s had plenty of warnings. Serves him right…..

HIS mental health… - really?
Don’t get me started on “that” excuse, it is a slap in the face to all with genuine MH problems.
Another particular bugbear of mine
“Nessa” sends it up rather well
Wynne Evans does have a history of severe depressions and suicidal thoughts. Not that it would be an excuse for the recent behaviour.
He's a rude boor
But I hope he can handle all this. Social media is toxic.
It's very crude and definitely inappropriate, but I'm sorry when I read it, I laughed. It sounds like something you'd do at an orgy or for a porn movie. Just shows what gutter minds these men have.
I am a little fed up with the way certain words, phrases and expressions have been hi-jacked and given a salacious meaning.
This nudge, nudge, wink, wink, sexual innuendo stuff is becoming increasingly boring.
I only heard the expression apropos of a report about some footballers referring to the practice. I remember thinking back then 'so that's how you describe women as a lump of meat' could they be anymore disparaging. Who do they think they are to describe a fellow human being in such a way. Arrogant! With an over inflated sense of their self worth, they don't save lives for a living, they kick a ball about
I lead a sheltered life, never heard of this expression except in cooking
I’m certainly not condoning this behaviour but, just to provide a little balance, he knew my younger sister through Go Compare and visited her in her care home when she was in the last few years of her life with a degenerative condition and also attended her funeral despite a hugely busy schedule. His rendition of Calon Lan was truly wonderful.
I’m 66 and Welsh the same as him and I’ve never heard of that expression and neither has DH.
I don’t understand why he has to be crude maybe he thinks he is being sexy which he definitely is not, he is just vulgar and a pain in the posterior
I’d never heard of the expression but now that I have looked it up I find it quite disgusting. It’s an awful thing to say and I hope he’s cancelled for good!
It sounds, like Gregg Wallace, Huw Edwards inter alia very much like someone who has bcome a "celebrity" at least in their own eyes, the attention and adulation having gone to their head, plus a dose of trying to keep up with the lads (or "down with the kids") resulting in the disappearance of any decency they may have had along with a sense of proportion and what is appropriate
I have no sympathy for these men but some pity for what they have lost ie any self respect .
I had no idea what the expression meant, and couldn't begin to imagine it until I read it just now. Yes, having done so, it's foul. Would never have guessed that , ever.
In the spirit of fairness, I wonder if HE knew what it meant.
I wonder what his children think of this, especially his daughter. They are both young adults.
I had heard the expression before, maybe on the TV or at the cinema, and gathered it was something horrible but have just looked it up to find the true meaning, what a disgusting creature he is.
Well said GrandmaFrench 👏 👌 👍
I haven't copied your words again but I agree with every one of them
