It could be that FGT will only begin to understand how deeply offensive and hurtful Trump’s pronouncements about the various groups in society which he denigrates are if she is on the receiving end of similar treatment.

At least she has the mids to turn to for protection. Which is more than Trump’s victims have.

I don't agree with FGT's political stance at all, but I'm appalled at the acceptance that she's the victim of pile-ons and insults.

I can honestly say the only time I give leaving the EU a thought is when I see a thread on GN.

The remain camp has to take some responsibility, as they failed to read the room and therefore didn’t put forward their side as robustly as the leave camp.

You mean they didn't tell blatant lies?

Those politicians who wished to stay in the EYPU have themselves said that they too it for granted that the result would be to remain.

They were complacent and many younger people just were not bothered enough to go along to their nearest polling station and vote.

Brexit was a result of complacency.

I am very sorry that we left the EU, even though there were things about it that concerned me.

I think leaving was a huge mistake.

I agree Wyllow, I think many people couldn't believe it would happen. The policiticians didn't either. They suddenly remembered Ireland. Woops.

I recall the not bothering to vote and the shock from a number of young people I then knew, they just didn't believe it was possible people could want to leave and totally lazy.

I believe the pandemic had a big part to play in us realising what’s really important in life, family and friends especially.😃

That’s fine, you do you, and we will do us, neither way is right or wrong - and we are looking forward and getting on with life too.

Politics yes, gets talked about a lot in the family and at work, Brexit no, not for years, the pandemic wiped that topic out.
People are now concerned with looking forward and getting on with life.

My children are living their lives and looking forward too, and I would hope that’s what everybody does GrannyGravy13. That doesn’t mean they don’t have concerns about where the UK is headed, and that they won’t campaign for the UK to rejoin the EU. It’s not going to end with us.

It’s never going to happen ( rejoining) politicians know how divisive and bad for people the referendum was.

In real life nobody even talks about Brexit, it’s only obsessed people here and there on forums now.

People are now concerned just on the government and what policies are pushed through and the cost of living.

You obviously lead a different life to my family Oreo, we talk a lot about politics, as do my friends and theirs, and Brexit is regularly part of the conversation. I know quite a few people with small businesses too, and they regularly complain about it because exporting and importing is so much more hassle for them.

The argument won't end with us. My daughter is 50 so hopefully has a few more decades yet. Brexit has been a disaster for her as a scientist. The loss of research grants, European students coming over to study, and the endless complications and expense involved in sending and receiving samples from abroad are crippling.

completely agree Bluebelle... we obviously haven't split from Europe but we no longer have all the advantages of being integrated with it.. I dread the influence Trump will have in future.. We were much stronger in the EU
