Trump has been busy with his plan for Gaza!

So Gaza is going to become the new Riviera.

It’s a crazy plan but nothing else has worked.

One of the biggest advantages Trump has got is that too many people dismiss him as a stupid buffoon. A man who advances to such a position of power - twice! - is either (a) exceptionally clever and ruthless (pretending to be dumb so people do nothing more than laugh) or (b) a malleable puppet of others who are clever and ruthless. Stupidity doesn't come into it.

maddyone Wed 05-Feb-25 11:58:46

It won’t happen.

So he can just walk in and take a territory ? No better than Putin, about the same in fact. Unbelievable. I have always thought he was what America needed at this time. This has made me think again. Very scary, could result in a world war - imagine what the Middle East mob would feel with American territory in the middle of their lands.

When people are oppressed organisations like Hamas thrive. We call them terrorists but they say they are freedom fighters.
Trump's interference will cause even more trouble.

foxie48 Wed 05-Feb-25 11:41:17

If Gaza became the new Riviera it would become a focus for terrorism, needing to be protected by an army on the ground, an airforce in it's skies and a navy to protect it's sea. Who would want to enjoy a family holiday under those circumstances? Holidaying on Gaza would be like trying to enjoy a party in a cemetery.

I completely agree and I do NOT support Hammas, or their actions in any way.

This kind of action won’t benefit Palestinians or the people living in Israel either.

Doesn’t Netanyahu care about his own people?

Too many innocent on both sides have lost their lives needlessly not just in the most recent conflict, but for decades.

Has mankind learnt nothing from WWII?

How is it supposed to now be OK to displace thousands of people from the place they and their families were born? Nothing justifies the slaughter and brutality with which thousands of innocent civilians living on the Gaza Strip have been treated not to mention the destruction of their homeland.

The plan is unworkable, but has much to recommend it.
Remove the returning Gazan refugees to good nearby temporary accommodation with supervised aid properly distributed.
Demolish all the bombed areas and also the network of tunnels and hideouts beneath hospitals and tunnels.Rebuild wherever possible.
Most important of all, eradicate Hamas and prevent it from reforming.
But from what I have seen of the crowds celebrating the return of Gazan prisoners, it seems as though many are quite content to continue supporting Hamas, who clearly feel they are in control.

Hamas is not just people, it is a belief, it is in people's heads, and frankly, Netanyahu, and recently, Trump have been great recruiters for the Hamas philosophy.

Netanyahu has put all of us in danger, and Trump in his infinite greed and stupidity is making it even worse.

I am no supporter of Hamas, but I can understand why people are.

Sickening that some here support this idea of ethnic cleansing ! Shame on you all to fall for Trump’s cheap tricks .

Claremont Wed 05-Feb-25 10:33:46

'much to recommend it'

just incredibly sick.

It is deflection. Remember he said he would fix the Russia/Ukraine war on his first day in office?

Yet another city in the Ukraine is falling to the Russians.

Deflecting from what he is really doing ie doing Putin's bidding, is part of his tactics.

He knows he can now say absolutely anything and people will focus on him and not what is going on elsewhere in the world.

What's happening in Syria? South Sudan? Somalia? Myanmar? DRC? etc etc. It doesn't matter because Trump is back in the White House...

He has told Ukraine that he would help them, but only if they give him full access to their mineral resources.

It seem unclear what Netanyahu really thinks as his reaction (BBC live feed) was
'Netanyahu says Trump's plan is an idea "worth paying attention to""

He's a madman tempting fate. Has he completely forgotten September 11th 2001?
Or does he think it can't happen again?

I completely agree. He is totally deranged and a huge danger to most of the world, He and Musk together are a marriage made in hell.

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Feb-25 09:39:03

And the West Bank?

(from BBC I player)

Last night, Donald Trump was asked by a reporter about his stance on Israel's occupation of the West Bank.
He said people "do like the idea" of Israel claiming sovereignty over the land there, "but we haven't taken a position on it yet."
He adds that discussions with Israeli representatives are under way and "we'll be making an announcement probably on that very specific topic over the next four weeks".

For context:
Under international law, the West Bank is a Palestinian territory, however many Israelis believe the land to be part of their biblical homeland and want Israeli sovereignty over it. It remains that Israeli settlement of the area is illegal under international law

Last month, Trump issued an executive order lifting sanctions against violent Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Feb-25 09:35:41

So many questions. He has no agreement with Jordan and Egypt. He says he'll build nice homes for Palestinians in these countries. If people don't go, will the US military put feet on the ground to clear people where to? Where? where is the money coming from for "these homes" ....what will people in Israel think of the USA "owning" Gaza....

Homestead62 Wed 05-Feb-25 09:28:00

Musk worries me too. What's the agenda with him?

Claremont Wed 05-Feb-25 09:24:50

It is chilling to the bone and just unbelievably wrong. And Netanyahu smirked, yes, just smirked, the whole way through.

The rest of the world cannot let this happen. The situation is sickingly, terrifyingly serious.

Churchview Wed 05-Feb-25 09:12:48

The man who doesn't want immigrants in his country wants other countries to take 1 million immigrants.

He's a narcissist and everyone else on earth is there only to orbit and serve him. Nobody else matters.

There have been hundreds of 'When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time' moments with Trump....and still people defend him.

Parsley3 Wed 05-Feb-25 09:07:37

Netanyahu, who is the first foreign leader to visit Washington in Trump's second term, praised the president for his ability to "think outside the box" and called Trump "the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House" from BBC news.
No doubt about what Netanyahu thinks of this idea.

^It is deflection. Remember he said he would fix the Russia/Ukraine war on his first day in office?

Good point.

But it is not on, what he is saying.

foxie48 Wed 05-Feb-25 08:51:55

Trump looks at the destruction of Gaza and sees the opportunity to make money. Trump looks at homeless traumatised people and doesn't see suffering he sees a weakness he can profit from. I don't think God saved him from that bullet, more likely the Devil. Fwiw I'm not remotely religious but I am totally sickened by this vile man.

AGAA4 Wed 05-Feb-25 08:50:38

Perhaps Trump can offer the people of Gaza a nice piece of land in the USA instead of telling other countries to take them in.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpetbagger: "In the history of the United States, carpetbagger is a largely historical pejorative used by Southerners to describe allegedly opportunistic or disruptive Northerners who came to the Southern states after the American Civil War and were perceived to be exploiting the local populace for their own financial, political, or social gain
The term carpetbagger, used exclusively as a pejorative term, originated from the carpet bag, a form of cheap luggage, made from carpet fabric, which many of the newcomers carried. The term came to be associated with opportunism and exploitation by outsiders." Mr Trump has taken this term to another level: Gaza as the new Mar-a -lago...
