for Ukraine and the whole of Europe.

And will FORCE the UK to choose.

What is sad Babs03 is that he isn't even the worst pick!

We have an anti-vaxxer who put a dead bear in Central Park as a joke in charge of our health.

An "alleged" Assaud agent at Intelligence

A super far right racist Christian Nationalist who do not believe women should be in the military in charge of the military.

Each one gets worse and worse. But then we get to Russel Voght. This man has ice running through his veins and is a lead architect and author of Project 2025. He is in charge of the purse strings and has already said he will illegally engage in impoundment, which is what is happening right now with the federal funds freeze. It is against the law. Nothing happens at any agency without his say so.

From Pnut:
American on line news (which I like).

“As Trump tries to get his hands on Gaza, the White House is also taking its hands off the levers of Europe. Yesterday, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the U.S. would no longer be “primarily focused” on guaranteeing Europe’s safety. Instead, he told European leaders in Brussels that the U.S. would be turning to defending its borders against immigrants and deterring China.

He also discussed the future of the war in Ukraine. “We must start by recognizing that returning to Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders is an unrealistic objective,” Hegseth said. “Chasing this illusory goal will only prolong the war and cause more suffering.” He went on to say that peace in Ukraine would need to be secured by “capable European and non-European troops,” adding that the U.S. would not be approving Ukraine’s bid to join NATO.

In Washington, Trump announced that he’d held phone calls with both Russia and Ukraine and told reporters that both sides were willing to negotiate a peace deal. While Trump has promised that such a deal would be “good for both sides,” it doesn’t look like Russia is willing to give up any of the territory it’s gained over the course of the war to end the conflict.”

This is not someone who should be anywhere near a position of power or even near other people in general.
I imagine if he bit me I would need a tetanus injection.

Claremont - I try to avoid possible conspiracy stories but I believe your correct

Claremont Thu 13-Feb-25 20:25:07

More and more it looks like the likes of Musk, Trump and others, in cohoots with Putin - were very active, spending billions on targeting, multi media disinformation and lies, to weaken Europe- in Italy, in Hungary, in France, and of course in UK. They needed to weaken the EU, divide and rule, to get their way.

Iam64 Thu 13-Feb-25 20:14:40

Sorry I’m technically challenged - I saw the Victoria Derbyshire interview on X. I’m so tech challenged, I don’t know how I got to be on X. I rarely look but saw a comment about how aggressive Gorky was and praising VDerbyshire

There is absolutely nothing we can do about it. We are merely onlookers.

^The above written by a friend from Berlin- whose family lost their home and land at the time, and had to move to East Germany, with nothing^
Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire! .

This is the reality for those whose land is taken, they rarely have a choice.

I had two neighbours who were able to move to the UK- because they had relatives here. They never quite recovered from the loss, pain and bitterness.

He had something to do with that outfit Carol Cadwalladr was investigating over Facebook influencers etc.

I hate getting old!!

Wasn't Gorky removed in the last Trump administration? I need to go look. This man is bad.

Yes he was - some scandal - I can’t remember. Honestly it is so frustrating remembering something but not everything - grr.

I'm afraid I don't remember it, either. There;s been so much happening in the past few years.

Summary /analysis BBC news feed

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said he came to Brussels with a message from President Donald Trump - he wants to "make Nato great again".

Hegseth said that meant Europe taking responsibility for its own security and that member states should be spending 5% of their GDP on defence.

But that’s a figure not even the US meets

It was his message on ending the war in Ukraine that has rocked Nato, though, and Trump’s direct talks with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

It’s left Nato and Ukraine side-lined, with the US unilaterally declaring that Ukraine will not become a member of the Alliance nor regain all its lost territories

And he left no doubt that Trump was in charge, declaring the US president was leading negotiations.

Trump - not Nato - is now driving these talks. And it’s still not clear what concessions, if any, he’ll be demanding from Putin.

Any links Wwm2?

I’ll try and find it - but my iPad doesn’t do links.

I can’t find anything to link, but perhaps someone like maizie or maybee remembers. They were around on GN then and I’m sure his name will ring bells.

He was part of the Breitbart crowd and friends with Bannon. They all influenced Brexit by aiding Farage.

NotSpaghetti this came about in an interview with Robert Preston, apparently the French are also in agreement.

itv news is reporting that Keir Starmer is open to sending UK troops to Ukraine as peace keepers.

It's already been stated that Putin doesn't want anyone from NATO to be involved.
Don't have a reference now - not sure where I read/ heard it.

Not sure why we're dramatically saying how we must stick with Europe.

Of course we will. How could we not? We're still in Europe. It's a no brainer

I’ve just watched Victoria Derbyshire interviewing Sebastian Gorky, Trump’s senior director for counter terrorism on Newsnight. What an arrogant bully the man is. Typical of what’s happening in the Trump White House. Normal communication, civil discussions no longer expected

She is just amazing. Truly sickening and scary.
