I thought that incident didnt get a great deal of publicity to be honest. I think they were very careful to say not driven by an ideology.
It’s been a while so I will start us off…….whats for supper and why?
I’ve just seen reported on SkyNews that an incident has just taken place in Germany, Munich I think. A car involved and twenty people have been injured, some critically. The driver has been detained by the police. Maybe he/she was drunk or very elderly, I don’t know.
It’s very sad, prayers for the injured.

I note that thus distressing event has been raised on GN, but when a white national ran amok and shot 10 immigrants at a language school in Sweden nobody mentioned it. Unless I missed it, in which case apologies.
Well said Barley. But, of course, the powers that be will not take a blind bit of notice and come up with some lame platitude.
That's an interesting thought about the need for revenge in some people Iam64.
I think those who place human values at the centre of their lives, above anything else, rise above seeking revenge. You can of course still "enjoy" your own religion while doing this.
Actually there was a group of Jews who sought revenge in post war Germany. I think their plans were to poison thousands of Germans, maybe in their drinking water or foods?
Everyone has a choice in life to be good or evil. Be kind, is not such a stupid expression after all.
My reading of literature and accounts of the lives of Holocaust survivors confirms they carried the horrors throughout their lives. Despite this, so many survivors built good lives and didn’t seek vengeance by targeting innocent civilians.
Manchester Imperial War Museum had an exhibition of photographs of survivors, many in their 90’s, surrounded by the large families that wouldn’t have existed if they hadn’t survived. One was a former colleague of mine. One of The remarkable things was the number of doctors, lawyers, teachers, professors etc in these families.
Wyllow I just wish we wouldn't tar all with the same brush
I so agree
Hatred breeds hatred, so circular, so destructive for everyone involved
The only way forward is to teach our young people from all countries and from young how to love how to accept and how to forgive When I see young children on protest marches on the shoulders of their fathers shouting hatred I know the world is dammed
Ms Merkle tried she was a good politician
I think the climate change must wipe us all out and then they can start again with love not hate ….but we ll never know
The D/m on line has photographs of the alleged attacker. He’s involved in drug related crime according to police. He’s a body builder, steroids??

The stupidity of this guy; obviously aggrieved and angry - denied asylum but not deported - is very badly timed. To do this horrible thing very near to an election in Germany plays into the hands of the right-wing. Own goal to Islamic Fundamentalism.
Absolutely it does!
My concerns too, because many had to leave Afghanistan after the wars because of "collaboration" with Western forces against the Taliban.
In fact, we abandoned some there.
But there is no logic in this attack - which just brings support to the AfD - which is even too far right for the French Le Pen supporters - (who go in for Hitler salutes are anti semitic, some holocaust deniers).
you are right about the aggrieved and bitter, plus goodness what else in the attacker's mind - I just wish we wouldn't tar all with the same brush.

According to Der Spiegel, Farhad N was born in Kabul in 2001. He came to Germany at the end of 2016. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees rejected his asylum application but his deportation was suspended because he was granted “tolerated” status. The news outlet reported that he had posted Islamist messages online before the suspected attack.
Note last sentence.Islam. Again.
The West ignore these red flags at their peril.
Yes indeed.

Wonder if Ma Merkle is watching this. Stupid woman opening the German gates to all and sundry.
No.
I'm not sure about Germany but the Afghan people here are those who had helped the Forces in Afghanistan and are now refugees.
This is a horrific attack. A vehicle can be such a lethal weapon.
I hope this doesn't reflect on the Afghan communities in Europe. We have Afghan refugees who have been housed near here, they will be moving elsewhere soon but have thanked the local community for making them feel so safe and welcome.

They were using the word attack very quickly.
They used the word attack because his car was behind the police car followed the March. Then his car overtook the police car. Obviously the police knew that something was amiss.
This isn’t going to bode well in the up coming elections.

He arrived aged 15 from Afghanistan. I’m not clear on his asylum status, reports vary.
The news report I heard said the car was driven into the crowd so it sounds like an attack. Especially given the reports he posted ‘Islamist messages’ before the attack
Very sad for all involved.

Maybe he as just badly damaged with MH issues and so wasn’t thinking straight? Or on drugs/psychosis. Time will tell when details unfold.

From the Telegraph just now:
“A 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker has been arrested over a suspected terrorist attack after a car was driven into a crowd of people in Munich, leaving at least 28 injured.
The Mini Cooper rammed a group of protesters from Verdi, the main trade union for Germany’s public sector, as they were calling for more pay in schools and hospitals.
Children were among the injured, as pictures from the scene showed a pram strewn across the ground alongside other debris.
Local reports say that one woman has been killed, although this has not yet been confirmed by police.
It comes just a day before the start of the Munich security conference, where world leaders are expected to descend on the city.
The incident took place in the heart of the city, a stone’s throw from Köingsplatz, one of the most iconic squares in the Bavarian capital.
Munich police confirmed to The Telegraph that the driver of the vehicle was a 24-year-old Afghan citizen. He has been arrested and is in custody.”
I hope our government will take note of these incidents and crack down on the numbers of asylum seekers whose applications are granted.
I'm following it in German.
The Bavarian minister president has said,
Wir können nicht von Anschlag zu Anschlag gehen und Betroffenheit zeigen, sondern müssen auch tatsächlich etwas ändern.
We can't go from attack to attack and show concern /regret, we have to actually change something.
Anschlag is attack, not accident.
