The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

I've seen the pictures of masses of troops on the Mexican border - if they are there to stop those coming gin it would mean a massively expensive commitment to continue it.
aren't deporting not aunt deporting!
Thank you, imaround
thats what I picked up from the news, that they aunt actually deporting them (because you have to have the agreement of the receiving country) but holding in military style camps.
I'm glad courts around the country are resisting re-defining birthright citizenship. I don't trust him not to swing it with the Supreme Court, if he fails it will be massive.
We are going to get our first look at the Supreme Court alliances. Will they rule for Trump? He is trying to chage the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, everyone knows he can't so it should be an open and shut case.

I did not see it. Ill have to go and look. Sorry, this is really long.
I did look into the National Guard. Yes, the President can call them up and send them anywhere he deems fit.
First is the question of legality of using the military as a police force in the US. The Posse Comitatus Act.
www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/posse-comitatus-act-explained
The article states:
"“Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.”
In practice, this means that members of the military who are subject to the law may not participate in civilian law enforcement unless doing so is expressly authorized by a statute or the Constitution."
Right now the debate between the camps is this, is rounding up and detaining immigrants as police act or not? Trump says no, dems say yes.
On a side note, The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 added Section 287(g) to the Immigration and Nationality Act, a provision that authorizes ICE to enter into agreements with state and local law enforcement agencies to allow select, properly trained officers perform immigration law enforcement functions under the supervision of ERO officers.
This would be an interesting court case I hope I never have to see.
The National Guard does not fall under the act unless they are called into Federal Service. So if Trump calls them up, the fall under federal service and the act applies to them.
Anyhow, back to the border and my opinion only on it. Take that for what its worth because he is so unpredictable.
I think he is posturing and hope he has no plans to escalate. I pray that is the case.
But Mexico and Canada should be worried here, as well as Panama. The amount of troops being sent to the border is clearly an over reaction, based on the low numbers of people he is actually deporting, which is below Bidens weekly numbers last I looked.
Based on his instability, I would be taking this very seriously if I were Canada and Mexico. And I know they are. But I also think Americans need to take this very seriously, because numbers of soldiers like this can keep people in just as easily as they can keep people out.
Especially since Trumps billionaire buddies have issued a proposal to build "processing camps" on military bases, which includes a fleet of small planes and a "small army" of private citizens empowered to make arrests.
After they run out of migrants, they will turn on LGBTQ people next. Someone has to keep those privately run prisons and camps making a profit.

Anyone catch the press conference with Trump and Mark Rutte, head of NATO, where Trump just rambled on about Ukraine and Putin - where you know Trump just wants to save lives but hey there has to be something in it for the US, taking over Greenland and Canada - and Canada should be grateful about becoming another US state. Oh and btw the US isn’t going to let Canada use US ice breakers anymore, they better get their own. Then onto his fav topic of how little ole America has been taken advantage of by Europe etc. and now it’s time for payback.
Whilst Mark Rutte must have thought he’d lost a fiver and found twenty pounds, because Trump totally ignored him the whole time, happy to slope off afterwards to celebrate his complete invisibility, knowing that the alternative might not have gone too well for him.
Surreal as usual.

Can one state move its soldiers into state without a by your leave?
Of course, often we read of National Guard troop movements for disaster relief, fire fighting, flood control, border protection.
I am not sure that Trump has disaster aid in mind.
Of course not.
Examples of POTUS guard activation:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Los_Angeles_riots
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_assassination_riots
I.am going to have to look at the legality of it. Overall, yes soldiers.can be moved anywhere. But they are not allowed to be used against US citizens for policing.
The National Guard are commanded by State Governors. But they are a branch if the military. I am not that knowledgeable on the use of National Guard. I'll have to research it.

Trump has asked his military people to draw up plans to invade Panama.
"The military is drawing up options, according to NBC News, that range from a closer partnership with the Panamanian military to soldiers seizing the Panama Canal by force, according to unnamed officials. The use of force depends on how much Panama’s military is willing to work with the United States, the officials told NBC News. "

"The Trump administration is expected to invoke a sweeping wartime authority to speed up the president’s mass deportation pledge in the coming days, according to four sources familiar with the discussions.
The little-known 18th-century law, the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, gives the president tremendous authority to target and remove undocumented immigrants, though legal experts have argued it would face an uphill battle in court"

This has only been used during wartime. He is moving soldiers to both borders under the guise of border security.
He is also moving more soldiers to Panama currently.
recipients of EPA climate grants are being considered as potentially liable for fraud. That is, the Trump administration wants to criminalize work on climate science and impacts,” the @capitolhunters account wrote Wednesday on X. “An incoming administration not only cancels federal grants but declares recipients as criminals. All these grantees applied under government calls FOR ENVIRONMENTAL WORK, were reviewed and accepted. Trump wants to jail them.“
As predicted, the FBI is now going after companies they don't like.
Kash Patel has instructed Citibank to sieze the bank accounts of Habitat for Humanity and he plans criminal charges (on who I can't figure out).
Their crime? Take a grant from the EPA during Bidens term. Patel says they attempted to defraud the government.
Habitat for Humanity. The people who VOLUNTEER to help build homes after natural disasters.
I looked it up and noticed that gun trend started being reported autumn last year. So sad.
Medicaid covers 50% of children in the US.
The resistance is growing and MAGA is starting to see they got played. But it isn't enough if them yet. So many of them believe him when he says they need to feel a period of pain before things get better.
Meanwhile the left and LGBTQIA+ groups are arming. There are gun stores, YouTube channels and social media groups popping up just for liberals buying guns.
I really hope it doesn't get to that.
*America is turning on Trump
From Elon Musk’s Doge chaos to cutting Medicaid, voters across the political spectrum are unhappy.*

Domestic affairs are another matter.
A top congressional Republican recently told his members he didn’t want them to hold in-district town halls any longer because so many enraged voters are showing up
Republicans believe, stupidly, many of the complaining constituents are Democratic plants, when in reality Musk is repulsive to a growing number of Americans, and Doge is doing little but sowing chaos
The odds are growing that Democrats, only a few seats from a House majority, will control the lower chamber after the midterm elections next year.
If Musk and Doge alone don’t sink the Republicans’ chances, it will be their ongoing attempts to cut Medicaid – the healthcare programme for adults and children with limited income and resources. Medicaid is the closest the US has ever come to universal healthcare. More than 70 million Americans are enrolled, and they are spread all across the country, including in rural areas that overwhelmingly vote Republican. Medicaid pays for about half of all nursing care in the US, and 40 per cent of all births.
Can she appeal?
Just so corrupt,
not just the domestic violence
"He then essentially explained to me that Mel Gibson has a personal relationship with President Trump and that should be sufficient basis for me to make a recommendation and that I would be wise to make the recommendation,” she said a senior official told her about the recommendation.
Gibson, along with actors Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight, was tapped by the Trump administration in January to serve as a “special ambassador” to Hollywood.
Oyer continued to insist that Gibson, who had faced a previous scandal in 2006 for being pulled over on suspicion of a DUI and berating a police officer with antisemitic comments, was a poor fit for firearms access under regular DOJ standards
"By Friday, she said she was dismissed from the department, along with other career employees.
The Trump administration has fired numerous Justice Department personnel since taking office, including officials who worked on the federal criminal investigations into Trump."
The Dept of Justice (the people who enforce the law) has fired an employee who refused to break the law.
