Yippee! Starmer embraces BREXIT freedoms! ✔️

Just now, in The Telegraph:

“Labour is considering scrapping legacy EU laws which are empowering big companies to “overcharge” shoppers and the NHS.

The Prime Minister has been urged to take advantage of Brexit freedoms to revoke the rules that impose an “artificial tax” on consumers.

Britain still follows EU trademark rules which prevent retailers and public services from shopping around the world for the cheapest goods.

The regulations give global brands total control over their supply chains meaning they can insist UK firms only buy from wholesalers in Europe.

An official impact assessment has found that as a result shoppers are paying inflated prices for goods like electronics, cosmetics, books and clothing.

Studies have suggested the restrictions are adding around 10 per cent to the price of branded products and costing the NHS hundreds of millions a year.“

This delights me!

Cossy because, according to the poster, I keep putting flowers on my posts (🤷‍♀️) and on SM flowers are for sympathy. She even advised me what emoji I should use instead.

Needless to say I replied with courtesy and, of course, flowersflowersflowerswhich denote ‘thanks’ on GNsmile

Mention on here about immigrants using ECHR - all countries in Europe are members with the exception of Russia and Belarus. Says it all really.

Every person in the UK has access to the judiciary and the day that is stopped is the day democracy dies.

I don’t understand why so many of the people that bang on about how great the UK is, and how we’ve got our sovereignty back etc etc are so gleeful every time they think that the government have messed up in some way.

No glee from me MayBee70 just an overwhelming sense of disappointment.

I have been browsing (confined to barracks) our current PM’s pre-election promises.

No tax increases for working people
No IHT changes for farmers (said at an NFU meeting)
Freeze on energy costs.
No council tax rises.

That’s just a few…

Oh gosh. I had no idea.

All views and opinions are welcome on GN as long as they are within the guidlines

I do find the hounding of posters is becoming more frequent, something which I am uncomfortable with.

Debate the subject of the thread, not other posters.

Oh yes, oh dear. I wish!

*"Going on threads to complain about the OP (both heading and poster) instead of ignoring the threads and starting other threads which might be more to there liking is all very odd."*

Isn't that deplatforming?

Sorry, I misunderstood. Please ignore my previous post.

Perhaps you mean by deplatforming all the attempts by several posters to stop posters such as FriedGreenTomatoes and nanna8 etc expressing their views.

This is a chat forum, of course, not the H of C!!

I don't know about you, Allira but I think that I know who Mr Gill is - a dodgy geezer.

Good description!

I'll think you will find I can " go on" any thread I please and comment as I please. I don't have time to start threads about the appalling state we are in.

I do, however ,sometimes have 5 minutes in the day to look at this and that.

Maremia

So, while we are on the subject of BREXIT, and since you are a Reform voter, I guess you will have an opinion on the Reform MP Nathan Gill in court today accused of taking Russian bribes, as an MEP in the European Parliament, to promote the Russian viewpoint during the Leave campaign. Taking Russian bribes, does that not make him a Traitor? At the very least it impacts the morality of the Leave campaign.

So many links with Russia aren’t there hmm.

Apologies, I meant to quote Maremia's post as mine was relating to that one.

Allira Mon 24-Feb-25 22:59:21

Nathan Gill was very prominent in the Brexit campaign as UKIP MEP and UKIP AM, then resigned as UKIP AM and said he would stand as an Independent AM but remain as UKIP MEP. Then he joined the Brexit Party. Then became leader of Reform in Wales but has now quit the party. Are you with me or confused yet?

It might seem that Mr Gill isn't at all sure of who or what he is. He faces eight charges of bribery and one charge of conspiracy to commit bribery. He is now on bail and will appear at The Old Bailey in March.

It's beyond tedious. We aren't fools, we can read a paper and browse a website.

We don't need to be fed a steady diet of extreme right wing views day in day out.

I can only assume there is some sort of pay off for this activity. Some sort of popularity contest or something perhaps? Preaching to an already converted audience, head girl.

Why not start other threads?
I've never noticed that you have done so or even posted with an alternative viewpoint. Apologies if I've missed them.

Exactly who is the already converted audience and who is the head girl please?
Not at all clear.

Not clear and peculiar tbh.
There’s quite often a steady drip feed of left wing views so why not a few right wing views, it’s all about balance.
No idea what already converted audience means and who indeed is head girl on this forum?I need to know so I can ask if I can hand the pencils out.

If it wasn't so unpleasant, it could be funny.
But then is it a peculiar characteristic of the British that they like to moan?

Going on threads to complain about the OP (both heading and poster) instead of ignoring the threads and starting other threads which might be more to there liking is all very odd.

According to Darwin.
It is not the most intellectual of the species that survives.
It is not the strongest that survive.
But the species that survives is the one that is able best to adapt and adjust to the changing environment that it finds itself.

In which case all the people not accepting and adapting to the fact that we are now out of the EU ( not Europe) are doomed.
