Yippee! Starmer embraces BREXIT freedoms! ✔️

Just now, in The Telegraph:

“Labour is considering scrapping legacy EU laws which are empowering big companies to “overcharge” shoppers and the NHS.

The Prime Minister has been urged to take advantage of Brexit freedoms to revoke the rules that impose an “artificial tax” on consumers.

Britain still follows EU trademark rules which prevent retailers and public services from shopping around the world for the cheapest goods.

The regulations give global brands total control over their supply chains meaning they can insist UK firms only buy from wholesalers in Europe.

An official impact assessment has found that as a result shoppers are paying inflated prices for goods like electronics, cosmetics, books and clothing.

Studies have suggested the restrictions are adding around 10 per cent to the price of branded products and costing the NHS hundreds of millions a year.“

This delights me!

I assume that if you have ever met the man, it was only briefly and when he was being charming and affable? Are you a young woman? He is always charming to them. Those who employed him and expected him to actually carry out what he was supposed to be working on, or women who believed him when he said he would always love and care for them and their children without straying, probably have quite a different view.

Yes, he was actually sacked for lying in his job as a journalist. It is not my opinion it is a printed fact.
He even lied to the Queen about proroguing Parliament.
He is a liar. Can't seem to help it, but still a liar.

That is your opinion to which you are entitled. It is not mine.

So, are you saying BevSec that Johnson was NOT a liar? Seriously, when it is in the public domain that he has been sacked from jobs for LYING?

When Johnson wrote a column in a newspaper, he frequently concocted fake stories about the EU when he couldn't be bothered finding real news. Remember the one about EU legislation banning straight (or was it curved?) bananas ? That was his. There are people who believe it to this day. That and other invented EU bureaucracy myths which were allegedly being imposed on the UK were among the things that helped turn the UK public against the EU.

Glad if it did, we got out!

Isn't "got Brexit done" an odd phrase?

Why?

I don't know, it sounds almost like slang or dialect.

Claremont Tue 25-Feb-25 19:31:42

I prefer 'Brexit got us done' - more accurate.

Bev, his own Party thought it and he had to go.

Not all of them! He was brought down by envy imo.

All of that is anathema because it is historically and factually inaccurate!!!

Maremia, according to you, that is. I see it very differently.

All politicians are at best skilled at skirting the truth, Starmer is just as bad.

What did you admire about BJ please?

I have replied to this on other threads, but basically he cared, is very intelligent, was a very effective and efficient leader, got Brexit done, got our vaccines sorted, and was the best PM since Churchill. All of this is, of course, is anathema to many on here!

Totally different scale and reasons! Did Starmer lie, overall, or did he come to the conclusion he could not deliver his promises because he inherited a diabolical situation. Very different.

The scale and reason are immaterial. Labour have repeated ad nauseam about the diabolical situation. I dont believe a word of it.

I don’t understand why so many of the people that bang on about how great the UK is, and how we’ve got our sovereignty back etc etc are so gleeful every time they think that the government have messed up in some way.

No glee from me MayBee70 just an overwhelming sense of disappointment.

I have been browsing (confined to barracks) our current PM’s pre-election promises.

No tax increases for working people
No IHT changes for farmers (said at an NFU meeting)
Freeze on energy costs.
No council tax rises.

That’s just a few…

I might not agree with you but posts are always well balanced and thoughtful GG13.

Fessing up here. I would miss Fried's provocative posts on GN. Most Folk know what they are coming into when they click on them. It's important to delve into other viewpoints, and I always appreciate the well researched and classy rebutalls from WWM2 and many others. Okay, so I don't always name check, because the thread flows so quickly.

BevSec, Johnson was a liar. Is that in dispute again?

Yes it is in dispute with me, .I am a huge supporter and I was pointing out that Starmer is a liar too. Is that in dispute?

I’m happy to agree with/contribute to the criticisms of BJ. It’s just funny when justified criticism of KS et al are met with such defensive responses.

Even Johnson’s own party were in despair of him. He pretty much destroyed the Conservatives Party so I don’t understand why anyone would defend him or query the fact that he lied. I would hear him lie in parliament on a regular basis. I’ve spoken to Conservative Party members and MP’s and they don’t have a good word to say about him. When I criticise him it isn’t about being tribal about my own party but from seeing him as he really is and despising him for it.
