I agree with the OP. They have committed a dreadful crime and need to be treated as anyone else. Being 12 & 14 didn't stop them taking this poor man's life, so stop mollycoddling them.
I also get annoyed when criminals refuse to go to court for sentencing. When did that become their choice?
We are far too soft with many things in our country and we are reaping the seeds we have sown. It's likely to keep on getting worse too.

I doubt if those children have been spoke sharply in their entire lives by authority, certainly not at school.
It is the parents I am interested in. How did they produce such monsters?

That old question - nature or nurture? Some genetic traits may well be inherited, an absence of empathy for one, then being brought up by a parent with similar traits could lead to disturbed behaviour.

It is a combination of nature and nurture. A child brought up in poverty by neglectful, parent or parents, suffering violence,and uncertainty or any combination of the above is far more likely to get into trouble than one brought up in a a well resourced nurturing environment, whatever their genetic inheritsnce.

Many children do survive such upbringings, but many become the undisciplined feral children we hear so much about and some will behave like these children.

I don't think that wigs and gowns look intimidating, I think they look silly.

Lots of people come from those backgrounds but don't go on to kick someone to death in broad daylight and film it whilst laughing. Some people are just plain evil.

This a generalisation that completely fails to take into account the variability of every failing home and the inbuilt genetic make-up of each person.

Anyone with a family that consists of more than one person can see the enormous variability of children of the same genetic make-up in the same family.

You might as well argue that because several millionaires or brilliant academics have come from such backgrounds all children should do the same.

I agree Allira. They may legally be children, but they are not children in any other sense having committed this despicable crime. I have never liked this dumbing down of the judicial process for young thugs. They are not sitting in a family court, they are appearing in a criminal court answering to charges of murder. They need to recognise the full severity of the situation.

I agree too.I know that legally they’re children but at 15 ( the boy who carried out the violence) actually he isn’t in reality.
Many knife wielding gang members are younger than that, and they should face a proper criminal court too and stand in the dock IMO.

The problem about naming them is reactions like that of some people on here, only if it is local people who know, there could be lynch mobs out to get, not just them but their families.

When the crime was committed the defendants were 14 and 12, which is, in a way, more shocking, that children and 12 and 14 really still children should mount such an attack on another person.

Personally I think that the parents should be in the dock with the children, but know that would be pointless, these children are the chidlren of broken adults, broken homes and a broken society.

I am not concerned about them standing in the dock , nor am I concerned about the gowna and wigs, they did a despicable crime and they should face the consequences.
I don't agree with naming them as they are under age and we have laws for a reason.
I agree they need to be punished and face the consequences of their wicked actions.
